Al-Qur'an Surah Taha Verse 111

Taha [20]: 111 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

۞ وَعَنَتِ الْوُجُوْهُ لِلْحَيِّ الْقَيُّوْمِۗ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْمًا (طه : ٢٠)

waʿanati
وَعَنَتِ
And (will be) humbled
l-wujūhu
ٱلْوُجُوهُ
the faces
lil'ḥayyi
لِلْحَىِّ
before the Ever-Living
l-qayūmi
ٱلْقَيُّومِۖ
the Self-Subsisting
waqad
وَقَدْ
And verily
khāba
خَابَ
will have failed
man
مَنْ
(he) who
ḥamala
حَمَلَ
carried
ẓul'man
ظُلْمًا
wrongdoing

Transliteration:

Wa 'anatil wujoohu lil Haiiyil Qaiyoomi wa qad khaaba man hamala zulmaa (QS. Ṭāʾ Hāʾ:111)

English / Sahih Translation:

And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. And he will have failed who carries injustice. (QS. Taha, ayah 111)

All faces will be humbled before (Allah,) the Ever-Alive, the All-Sustaining; and the loser will be the one who bears (the burden of his) injustice.

English Literal

And the faces/fronts submitted/humbled to the live/alive , the of no beginning and self sufficient , and who had carried/bore injustice/oppression had failed/despaired .

And all faces shall bow before the Living, the All Sustaining; and the one who bore the burden of injustice, has failed.

And (all) faces shall be humbled before (Allah), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. And he who carried (a burden of) wrongdoing (i.e. he who disbelieved in Allah, ascribed partners to Him, and did deeds of His disobedience), became indeed a complete failure (on that Day).

on that Day all faces shall be humbled before the Living, Self-Subsisting One. Those burdened with evil deeds will come to grief,

Faces will be humbled before the Living, the Eternal. Whoever carries injustice will despair.

Tafsir jalalayn

And faces shall be humbled, they shall be submissive, before the Living, the Eternal Sustainer, namely, God; and he will certainly have failed, he will have lost, [he] who carries [the burden of] evildoing, that is, [of] idolatry.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَعَنَتِ الْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَيِّ الْقَيُّومِ

And (all) faces shall be humbled before the Ever Living, the Sustainer.

Ibn Abbas and others said,

"This means that the creatures will be humbled, submissive and compliant to their Compeller, the Ever Living, Who does not die, the Sustainer of all, Who does not sleep."

He is the maintainer of everything. He determines the affairs of everything and preserves everything. He is perfect in His Self. He is the One Whom everything is in need of and whom nothing could survive without.

Concerning His statement,
.
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْمًا



And he who carried wrongdoing, will be indeed a complete failure.

meaning on the Day of Resurrection. For verily, Allah will give every due right to the one who deserved it. Even the ram who lost its horn will be given revenge against the one who had horns.

In the Sahih, it is recorded that the Prophet said,

إِيَّاكُمْ وَالظُّلْمَ فَإِنَّ الظُّلْمَ ظُلُمَاتٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَة

Beware of wrongdoing (or oppression), for verily, wrongdoing will be darknesses on the Day of Resurrection.

And the true failure is for whoever meets Allah while associating partners with Him. Allah the Exalted says,
إِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ
("Verily, associating partners with Me is the great wrongdoing").

Allah's statement,

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ وَهُوَ مُوْمِنٌ فَلَ يَخَافُ ظُلْمًا وَلَا هَضْمًا
