(Ta-Ha)

121

فَاَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْاٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفٰنِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَّرَقِ الْجَنَّةِۚ وَعَصٰٓى اٰدَمُ رَبَّهٗ فَغَوٰى ۖ ١٢١

fa-akalā
فَأَكَلَا
Then they both ate
min'hā
مِنْهَا
from it
fabadat
فَبَدَتْ
so became apparent
lahumā
لَهُمَا
to them
sawātuhumā
سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا
their shame
waṭafiqā
وَطَفِقَا
and they began
yakhṣifāni
يَخْصِفَانِ
(to) fasten
ʿalayhimā
عَلَيْهِمَا
on themselves
min
مِن
from
waraqi
وَرَقِ
(the) leaves
l-janati
ٱلْجَنَّةِۚ
(of) Paradise
waʿaṣā
وَعَصَىٰٓ
And Adam disobeyed
ādamu
ءَادَمُ
And Adam disobeyed
rabbahu
رَبَّهُۥ
his Lord
faghawā
فَغَوَىٰ
and erred
And they [i.e., Adam and his wife] ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred. (QS. [20] Taha: 121)
Tafsir
122

ثُمَّ اجْتَبٰىهُ رَبُّهٗ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدٰى ١٢٢

thumma
ثُمَّ
Then
ij'tabāhu
ٱجْتَبَٰهُ
chose him
rabbuhu
رَبُّهُۥ
his Lord
fatāba
فَتَابَ
and turned
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
to him
wahadā
وَهَدَىٰ
and guided (him)
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him]. (QS. [20] Taha: 122)
Tafsir
123

قَالَ اهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًاۢ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۚفَاِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِّنِّيْ هُدًى ەۙ فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدٰيَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقٰى ١٢٣

qāla
قَالَ
He said
ih'biṭā
ٱهْبِطَا
"Go down
min'hā
مِنْهَا
from it
jamīʿan
جَمِيعًۢاۖ
all
baʿḍukum
بَعْضُكُمْ
some of you
libaʿḍin
لِبَعْضٍ
to others
ʿaduwwun
عَدُوٌّۖ
(as) enemy
fa-immā
فَإِمَّا
Then if
yatiyannakum
يَأْتِيَنَّكُم
comes to you
minnī
مِّنِّى
from Me
hudan
هُدًى
guidance
famani
فَمَنِ
then whoever
ittabaʿa
ٱتَّبَعَ
follows
hudāya
هُدَاىَ
My guidance
falā
فَلَا
then not
yaḍillu
يَضِلُّ
he will go astray
walā
وَلَا
and not
yashqā
يَشْقَىٰ
suffer
[Allah] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise] – all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me – then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]. (QS. [20] Taha: 123)
Tafsir
124

وَمَنْ اَعْرَضَ عَنْ ذِكْرِيْ فَاِنَّ لَهٗ مَعِيْشَةً ضَنْكًا وَّنَحْشُرُهٗ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ اَعْمٰى ١٢٤

waman
وَمَنْ
And whoever
aʿraḍa
أَعْرَضَ
turns away
ʿan
عَن
from
dhik'rī
ذِكْرِى
My remembrance
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
maʿīshatan
مَعِيشَةً
(is) a life
ḍankan
ضَنكًا
straitened
wanaḥshuruhu
وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ
and We will gather him
yawma
يَوْمَ
(on the) Day
l-qiyāmati
ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ
(of) the Resurrection
aʿmā
أَعْمَىٰ
blind"
And whoever turns away from My remembrance – indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e., difficult] life, and We will gather [i.e., raise] him on the Day of Resurrection blind." (QS. [20] Taha: 124)
Tafsir
125

قَالَ رَبِّ لِمَ حَشَرْتَنِيْٓ اَعْمٰى وَقَدْ كُنْتُ بَصِيْرًا ١٢٥

qāla
قَالَ
He will say
rabbi
رَبِّ
"My Lord!
lima
لِمَ
Why
ḥashartanī
حَشَرْتَنِىٓ
You raised me
aʿmā
أَعْمَىٰ
blind
waqad
وَقَدْ
while [verily]
kuntu
كُنتُ
I had
baṣīran
بَصِيرًا
sight"
He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?" (QS. [20] Taha: 125)
Tafsir
126

قَالَ كَذٰلِكَ اَتَتْكَ اٰيٰتُنَا فَنَسِيْتَهَاۚ وَكَذٰلِكَ الْيَوْمَ تُنْسٰى ١٢٦

qāla
قَالَ
He will say
kadhālika
كَذَٰلِكَ
"Thus
atatka
أَتَتْكَ
came to you
āyātunā
ءَايَٰتُنَا
Our Signs
fanasītahā
فَنَسِيتَهَاۖ
but you forgot them
wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
and thus
l-yawma
ٱلْيَوْمَ
today
tunsā
تُنسَىٰ
you will be forgotten"
[Allah] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot [i.e., disregarded] them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten." (QS. [20] Taha: 126)
Tafsir
127

وَكَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِيْ مَنْ اَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنْۢ بِاٰيٰتِ رَبِّهٖۗ وَلَعَذَابُ الْاٰخِرَةِ اَشَدُّ وَاَبْقٰى ١٢٧

wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
najzī
نَجْزِى
We recompense
man
مَنْ
(he) who
asrafa
أَسْرَفَ
transgresses
walam
وَلَمْ
and not
yu'min
يُؤْمِنۢ
believes
biāyāti
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
in (the) Signs
rabbihi
رَبِّهِۦۚ
(of) his Lord
walaʿadhābu
وَلَعَذَابُ
And surely (the) punishment
l-ākhirati
ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
(of) the Hereafter
ashaddu
أَشَدُّ
(is) more severe
wa-abqā
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
and more lasting
And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring. (QS. [20] Taha: 127)
Tafsir
128

اَفَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ اَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُمْ مِّنَ الْقُرُوْنِ يَمْشُوْنَ فِيْ مَسٰكِنِهِمْۗ اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّاُولِى النُّهٰى ࣖ ١٢٨

afalam
أَفَلَمْ
Then has not
yahdi
يَهْدِ
it guided
lahum
لَهُمْ
[for] them
kam
كَمْ
how many
ahlaknā
أَهْلَكْنَا
We (have) destroyed
qablahum
قَبْلَهُم
before them
mina
مِّنَ
of
l-qurūni
ٱلْقُرُونِ
the generations
yamshūna
يَمْشُونَ
(as) they walk
فِى
in
masākinihim
مَسَٰكِنِهِمْۗ
their dwellings?
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
فِى
in
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
laāyātin
لَءَايَٰتٍ
surely (are) Signs
li-ulī
لِّأُو۟لِى
for possessors
l-nuhā
ٱلنُّهَىٰ
(of) intelligence
Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence. (QS. [20] Taha: 128)
Tafsir
129

وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِنْ رَّبِّكَ لَكَانَ لِزَامًا وَّاَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى ۗ ١٢٩

walawlā
وَلَوْلَا
And if not
kalimatun
كَلِمَةٌ
(for) a Word
sabaqat
سَبَقَتْ
(that) preceded
min
مِن
from
rabbika
رَّبِّكَ
your Lord
lakāna
لَكَانَ
surely (would) have been
lizāman
لِزَامًا
an obligation
wa-ajalun
وَأَجَلٌ
and a term
musamman
مُّسَمًّى
determined
And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it [i.e., punishment] would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed]. (QS. [20] Taha: 129)
Tafsir
130

فَاصْبِرْ عَلٰى مَا يَقُوْلُوْنَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوْعِ الشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوْبِهَا ۚوَمِنْ اٰنَاۤئِ الَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْ وَاَطْرَافَ النَّهَارِ لَعَلَّكَ تَرْضٰى ١٣٠

fa-iṣ'bir
فَٱصْبِرْ
So be patient
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
over
مَا
what
yaqūlūna
يَقُولُونَ
they say
wasabbiḥ
وَسَبِّحْ
and glorify
biḥamdi
بِحَمْدِ
with praise
rabbika
رَبِّكَ
(of) your Lord
qabla
قَبْلَ
before
ṭulūʿi
طُلُوعِ
(the) rising
l-shamsi
ٱلشَّمْسِ
(of) the sun
waqabla
وَقَبْلَ
and before
ghurūbihā
غُرُوبِهَاۖ
its setting;
wamin
وَمِنْ
and from
ānāi
ءَانَآئِ
(the) hours
al-layli
ٱلَّيْلِ
(of) the night
fasabbiḥ
فَسَبِّحْ
and glorify
wa-aṭrāfa
وَأَطْرَافَ
(at the) ends
l-nahāri
ٱلنَّهَارِ
(of) the day
laʿallaka
لَعَلَّكَ
so that you may
tarḍā
تَرْضَىٰ
be satisfied
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied. (QS. [20] Taha: 130)
