Al-Baqarah [2]: 94 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قُلْ اِنْ كَانَتْ لَكُمُ الدَّارُ الْاٰخِرَةُ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ خَالِصَةً مِّنْ دُوْنِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا الْمَوْتَ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ (البقرة : ٢)

Transliteration:

Qul in kaanat lakumud Daarul Aakhiratu 'indal laahi khaalisatam min doonin naasi fatamannawul mawta in kuntum saadiqeen (QS. al-Baq̈arah:94)

English / Sahih Translation:

Say, [O Muhammad], "If the home of the Hereafter with Allah is for you alone and not the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful." (QS. Al-Baqarah, ayah 94)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Say: “If the Last Abode near Allah is purely for you, to the exclusion of all people, then make a wish for death, if you are true.”

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If the ˹eternal˺ Home of the Hereafter with Allah is exclusively for you ˹Israelites˺ out of all humanity, then wish for death if what you say is true!”

Say (to them again): "If (as you claim, you are the beloved ones of God and the sole followers of the Straight Path, and therefore) the abode of the Hereafter with God is (reserved) for you alone, excluding other people, then long for death, if you are sincere in your belief and truthful in your claim."

Say, `If the last Abode with Allâh is especially reserved for you excluding all other people, then invoke death (upon yourself standing against the Prophet of Islam) if you are on the right.´

English Literal

Say: "If the home (of) the last (other life) was for you, at God clearly/purely (exclusively) from other than the people, so wish/desire the death/lifelessness if you were truthful."

Say (O dear Prophet Mohammed - peace and blessings be upon him), "If the abode of the Hereafter in the sight of Allah is for you alone and none else, then long for death if you are truthful!"

Say: 'If the abode of the Everlasting Life is with Allah for you especially, to the exclusion of all other people, then long for death if you are truthful'

Say to (them): "If the abode of the Hereafter with Allah is indeed for you especially and not for others of mankind, then long for death if you are truthful."

Say, "If God's abode of the Hereafter is for you alone, to the exclusion of all others, then wish for death, if you are truthful."

Say, “If the Final Home with God is yours alone, to the exclusion of all other people, then wish for death if you are sincere.”

Tafsir jalalayn

Say, to them; `If the Abode of the Hereafter, that is, Paradise, with God is purely yours, that is, exclusively, and not for other people, as you allege, then long for death -- if you speak truly' (here both conditionals are connected to the verb tamann, `long for', so that the first is dependent upon the second, in other words, `If you speak truly when you claim that it is yours, then you will naturally incline to what is yours, and since the path to it is death, long for it [death]').

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Calling the Jews to invoke Allah to destroy the Unjust Party

Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated that Ibn Abbas said,

"Allah said to His Prophet,

قُلْ إِن كَانَتْ لَكُمُ الدَّارُ الَاخِرَةُ عِندَ اللّهِ خَالِصَةً مِّن دُونِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُاْ الْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ



Say to (them);"If the home of the Hereafter with Allah is indeed for you especially and not for others, of mankind, then long for death if you are truthful."

meaning, `Invoke Allah to bring death to the lying camp among the two (Muslims and Jews).'

The Jews declined this offer by the Messenger of Allah."

وَلَن يَتَمَنَّوْهُ أَبَدًا بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمينَ
