Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 105

Those who disbelieve from among the people of the Book and the idolaters do not like that any good should come to you from your Lord. But Allah chooses for His grace whomsoever He wills, and Allah is the Lord of great bounty.

Those who disbelieve among the People of the Book (by denying any of the Prophets or Divine Books or associating partners with God or cherishing enmity to His angels or in another way), and those who associate partners with God (among the people of Makkah and others) love not that there should be sent down on you any good from your Lord. But God singles out for His mercy (of favoring with Prophethood or another similar mission) whom He wills. God is of tremendous grace.

English Literal

Those who disbelieved from the people of The Book and nor the sharing (with God) , they do not wish/love that a goodness be descended on you from your Lord, and God singles out/specializes with His mercy whom He wills/wants, and God (is) of the grace/favour , the great .

Tafsir jalalayn

Those disbelievers of the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, from among the Arabs (al-mushrikna, `idolaters', is a supplement to ahl al-kitbi, `People of the Scripture', and the min, `of', is explicative), do not wish that any good, any Inspiration, should be revealed to you from your Lord, out of envy of you, but God singles out for His mercy, [for] the office of His Prophet, whom He will; God is of bounty abounding.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

مَّا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَلَا الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَن يُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ

Neither those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) nor Al-Mushrikin (the idolaters), like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord.

Allah described the deep enmity that the disbelieving polytheists and People of the Scripture, whom Allah warned against imitating, have against the believers, so that Muslims should sever all friendship with them.

Also, Allah mentioned what He granted the believers of the perfect Law that He legislated for their Prophet Muhammad.

Allah said,

وَاللّهُ يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِ مَن يَشَاء وَاللّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ



But Allah chooses for His mercy whom He wills. And Allah is the Owner of great bounty. (2;105
