قَالَ اِنَّهٗ يَقُوْلُ اِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لَّا ذَلُوْلٌ تُثِيْرُ الْاَرْضَ وَلَا تَسْقِى الْحَرْثَۚ مُسَلَّمَةٌ لَّاشِيَةَ فِيْهَا ۗ قَالُوا الْـٰٔنَ جِئْتَ بِالْحَقِّ فَذَبَحُوْهَا وَمَا كَادُوْا يَفْعَلُوْنَ ࣖ ٧١

- إِنَّهُۥ
- "Indeed He
- yaqūlu
- يَقُولُ
- says
- innahā
- إِنَّهَا
- "[Indeed] it
- baqaratun
- بَقَرَةٌ
- (is) a cow
- lā
- لَّا
- not
- dhalūlun
- ذَلُولٌ
- trained
- tuthīru
- تُثِيرُ
- to plough
- l-arḍa
- ٱلْأَرْضَ
- the earth
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- tasqī
- تَسْقِى
- water
- l-ḥartha
- ٱلْحَرْثَ
- the field;
- musallamatun
- مُسَلَّمَةٌ
- sound
- lā
- لَّا
- no
- shiyata
- شِيَةَ
- blemish
- fīhā
- فِيهَاۚ
- in it"
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- l-āna
- ٱلْـَٰٔنَ
- "Now
- ji'ta
- جِئْتَ
- you have come
- bil-ḥaqi
- بِٱلْحَقِّۚ
- with the truth"
- fadhabaḥūhā
- فَذَبَحُوهَا
- So they slaughtered it
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and not
- kādū
- كَادُوا۟
- they were near
- yafʿalūna
- يَفْعَلُونَ
- (to) doing (it)
He said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to plow the earth nor to irrigate the field, one free from fault with no spot upon her.'" They said, "Now you have come with the truth." So they slaughtered her, but they could hardly do it. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 71)Tafsir
وَاِذْ قَتَلْتُمْ نَفْسًا فَادّٰرَءْتُمْ فِيْهَا ۗ وَاللّٰهُ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا كُنْتُمْ تَكْتُمُوْنَ ۚ ٧٢
- wa-idh
- وَإِذْ
- And when
- qataltum
- قَتَلْتُمْ
- you killed
- nafsan
- نَفْسًا
- a man
- fa-iddāratum
- فَٱدَّٰرَْٰٔتُمْ
- then you disputed
- fīhā
- فِيهَاۖ
- concerning it
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- but Allah
- mukh'rijun
- مُخْرِجٌ
- (is) the One Who brought forth
- mā
- مَّا
- what
- kuntum
- كُنتُمْ
- you were
- taktumūna
- تَكْتُمُونَ
- concealing
And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 72)Tafsir
فَقُلْنَا اضْرِبُوْهُ بِبَعْضِهَاۗ كَذٰلِكَ يُحْيِ اللّٰهُ الْمَوْتٰى وَيُرِيْكُمْ اٰيٰتِهٖ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُوْنَ ٧٣
- faqul'nā
- فَقُلْنَا
- So We said
- iḍ'ribūhu
- ٱضْرِبُوهُ
- "Strike him
- bibaʿḍihā
- بِبَعْضِهَاۚ
- with a part of it"
- kadhālika
- كَذَٰلِكَ
- Like this
- yuḥ'yī
- يُحْىِ
- revives
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- l-mawtā
- ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
- the dead
- wayurīkum
- وَيُرِيكُمْ
- and shows you
- āyātihi
- ءَايَٰتِهِۦ
- His Signs
- laʿallakum
- لَعَلَّكُمْ
- perhaps you may
- taʿqilūna
- تَعْقِلُونَ
- use your intellect
So We said, "Strike him [i.e., the slain man] with part of it." Thus does Allah bring the dead to life, and He shows you His signs that you might reason. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 73)Tafsir
ثُمَّ قَسَتْ قُلُوْبُكُمْ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِ ذٰلِكَ فَهِيَ كَالْحِجَارَةِ اَوْ اَشَدُّ قَسْوَةً ۗ وَاِنَّ مِنَ الْحِجَارَةِ لَمَا يَتَفَجَّرُ مِنْهُ الْاَنْهٰرُ ۗ وَاِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَشَّقَّقُ فَيَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ الْمَاۤءُ ۗوَاِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَهْبِطُ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللّٰهِ ۗوَمَا اللّٰهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُوْنَ ٧٤
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- Then
- qasat
- قَسَتْ
- hardened
- qulūbukum
- قُلُوبُكُم
- your hearts
- min
- مِّنۢ
- from
- baʿdi
- بَعْدِ
- after
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- that
- fahiya
- فَهِىَ
- so they
- kal-ḥijārati
- كَٱلْحِجَارَةِ
- (became) like [the] stones
- aw
- أَوْ
- or
- ashaddu
- أَشَدُّ
- stronger
- qaswatan
- قَسْوَةًۚ
- (in) hardness
- wa-inna
- وَإِنَّ
- And indeed
- mina
- مِنَ
- from
- l-ḥijārati
- ٱلْحِجَارَةِ
- the stones
- lamā
- لَمَا
- certainly (there are some) which
- yatafajjaru
- يَتَفَجَّرُ
- gush forth
- min'hu
- مِنْهُ
- from it
- l-anhāru
- ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُۚ
- [the] rivers
- wa-inna
- وَإِنَّ
- and indeed
- min'hā
- مِنْهَا
- from them
- lamā
- لَمَا
- certainly (there are some) which
- yashaqqaqu
- يَشَّقَّقُ
- split
- fayakhruju
- فَيَخْرُجُ
- so comes out
- min'hu
- مِنْهُ
- from it
- l-māu
- ٱلْمَآءُۚ
- [the] water
- wa-inna
- وَإِنَّ
- and indeed
- min'hā
- مِنْهَا
- from them
- lamā
- لَمَا
- certainly (there are some) which
- yahbiṭu
- يَهْبِطُ
- fall down
- min
- مِنْ
- from
- khashyati
- خَشْيَةِ
- fear
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۗ
- (of) Allah
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- (is) Allah
- bighāfilin
- بِغَٰفِلٍ
- unaware
- ʿammā
- عَمَّا
- of what
- taʿmalūna
- تَعْمَلُونَ
- you do
Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 74)Tafsir
۞ اَفَتَطْمَعُوْنَ اَنْ يُّؤْمِنُوْا لَكُمْ وَقَدْ كَانَ فَرِيْقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَسْمَعُوْنَ كَلَامَ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُوْنَهٗ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ مَا عَقَلُوْهُ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُوْنَ ٧٥
- afataṭmaʿūna
- أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ
- Do you hope
- an
- أَن
- that
- yu'minū
- يُؤْمِنُوا۟
- they will believe
- lakum
- لَكُمْ
- [for] you
- waqad
- وَقَدْ
- while indeed
- kāna
- كَانَ
- (there) has been
- farīqun
- فَرِيقٌ
- a party
- min'hum
- مِّنْهُمْ
- of them
- yasmaʿūna
- يَسْمَعُونَ
- (who used to) hear
- kalāma
- كَلَٰمَ
- (the) words
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- yuḥarrifūnahu
- يُحَرِّفُونَهُۥ
- they distort it
- min
- مِنۢ
- from
- baʿdi
- بَعْدِ
- after
- mā
- مَا
- [what]
- ʿaqalūhu
- عَقَلُوهُ
- they understood it
- wahum
- وَهُمْ
- while they
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- know?
Do you covet [the hope, O believers], that they would believe for you while a party of them used to hear the words of Allah and then distort it [i.e., the Torah] after they had understood it while they were knowing? (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 75)Tafsir
وَاِذَا لَقُوا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قَالُوْٓا اٰمَنَّاۚ وَاِذَا خَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ اِلٰى بَعْضٍ قَالُوْٓا اَتُحَدِّثُوْنَهُمْ بِمَا فَتَحَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لِيُحَاۤجُّوْكُمْ بِهٖ عِنْدَ رَبِّكُمْ ۗ اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُوْنَ ٧٦
- wa-idhā
- وَإِذَا
- And when
- laqū
- لَقُوا۟
- they meet
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those who
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- believe[d]
- qālū
- قَالُوٓا۟
- they say
- āmannā
- ءَامَنَّا
- "We have believed"
- wa-idhā
- وَإِذَا
- But when
- khalā
- خَلَا
- meet in private
- baʿḍuhum
- بَعْضُهُمْ
- some of them
- ilā
- إِلَىٰ
- with
- baʿḍin
- بَعْضٍ
- some (others)
- qālū
- قَالُوٓا۟
- they say
- atuḥaddithūnahum
- أَتُحَدِّثُونَهُم
- "Do you tell them
- bimā
- بِمَا
- what
- fataḥa
- فَتَحَ
- has
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- ʿalaykum
- عَلَيْكُمْ
- to you
- liyuḥājjūkum
- لِيُحَآجُّوكُم
- so that they argue with you
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- therewith
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- before
- rabbikum
- رَبِّكُمْۚ
- your Lord?
- afalā
- أَفَلَا
- Then do (you) not
- taʿqilūna
- تَعْقِلُونَ
- understand?"
And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We have believed"; but when they are alone with one another, they say, "Do you talk to them about what Allah has revealed to you so they can argue with you about it before your Lord?" Then will you not reason? (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 76)Tafsir
اَوَلَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّوْنَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُوْنَ ٧٧
- awalā
- أَوَلَا
- Do not
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- they know
- anna
- أَنَّ
- that
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- yaʿlamu
- يَعْلَمُ
- knows
- mā
- مَا
- what
- yusirrūna
- يُسِرُّونَ
- they conceal
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and what
- yuʿ'linūna
- يُعْلِنُونَ
- they declare?
But do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare? (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 77)Tafsir
وَمِنْهُمْ اُمِّيُّوْنَ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ الْكِتٰبَ اِلَّآ اَمَانِيَّ وَاِنْ هُمْ اِلَّا يَظُنُّوْنَ ٧٨
- wamin'hum
- وَمِنْهُمْ
- And among them
- ummiyyūna
- أُمِّيُّونَ
- (are) unlettered ones
- lā
- لَا
- (who) do not
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- know
- l-kitāba
- ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
- the book
- illā
- إِلَّآ
- except
- amāniyya
- أَمَانِىَّ
- wishful thinking
- wa-in
- وَإِنْ
- and not
- hum
- هُمْ
- they
- illā
- إِلَّا
- (do anything) except
- yaẓunnūna
- يَظُنُّونَ
- guess
And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except [indulgement in] wishful thinking, but they are only assuming. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 78)Tafsir
فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِيْنَ يَكْتُبُوْنَ الْكِتٰبَ بِاَيْدِيْهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُوْلُوْنَ هٰذَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللّٰهِ لِيَشْتَرُوْا بِهٖ ثَمَنًا قَلِيْلًا ۗفَوَيْلٌ لَّهُمْ مِّمَّا كَتَبَتْ اَيْدِيْهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَّهُمْ مِّمَّا يَكْسِبُوْنَ ٧٩
- fawaylun
- فَوَيْلٌ
- So woe
- lilladhīna
- لِّلَّذِينَ
- to those who
- yaktubūna
- يَكْتُبُونَ
- write
- l-kitāba
- ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
- the book
- bi-aydīhim
- بِأَيْدِيهِمْ
- with their (own) hands
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- yaqūlūna
- يَقُولُونَ
- they say
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- "This
- min
- مِنْ
- (is)
- ʿindi
- عِندِ
- from
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah"
- liyashtarū
- لِيَشْتَرُوا۟
- to barter
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- with it
- thamanan
- ثَمَنًا
- (for) a price
- qalīlan
- قَلِيلًاۖ
- little
- fawaylun
- فَوَيْلٌ
- So woe
- lahum
- لَّهُم
- to them
- mimmā
- مِّمَّا
- for what
- katabat
- كَتَبَتْ
- have written
- aydīhim
- أَيْدِيهِمْ
- their hands
- wawaylun
- وَوَيْلٌ
- and woe
- lahum
- لَّهُم
- to them
- mimmā
- مِّمَّا
- for what
- yaksibūna
- يَكْسِبُونَ
- they earn
So woe to those who write the "scripture" with their own hands, then say, "This is from Allah," in order to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 79)Tafsir
وَقَالُوْا لَنْ تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ اِلَّآ اَيَّامًا مَّعْدُوْدَةً ۗ قُلْ اَتَّخَذْتُمْ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ عَهْدًا فَلَنْ يُّخْلِفَ اللّٰهُ عَهْدَهٗٓ اَمْ تَقُوْلُوْنَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ ٨٠
- waqālū
- وَقَالُوا۟
- And they say
- lan
- لَن
- "Never
- tamassanā
- تَمَسَّنَا
- will touch us
- l-nāru
- ٱلنَّارُ
- the Fire
- illā
- إِلَّآ
- except
- ayyāman
- أَيَّامًا
- (for) days
- maʿdūdatan
- مَّعْدُودَةًۚ
- numbered"
- qul
- قُلْ
- Say
- attakhadhtum
- أَتَّخَذْتُمْ
- "Have you taken
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- from
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- ʿahdan
- عَهْدًا
- a covenant
- falan
- فَلَن
- so never
- yukh'lifa
- يُخْلِفَ
- will break
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- ʿahdahu
- عَهْدَهُۥٓۖ
- His Covenant?
- am
- أَمْ
- Or
- taqūlūna
- تَقُولُونَ
- (do) you say
- ʿalā
- عَلَى
- against
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- mā
- مَا
- what
- lā
- لَا
- not
- taʿlamūna
- تَعْلَمُونَ
- you know?"
And they say, "Never will the Fire touch us, except for [a few] numbered days." Say, "Have you taken a covenant with Allah? For Allah will never break His covenant. Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?" (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 80)Tafsir
