وَمَثَلُ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا كَمَثَلِ الَّذِيْ يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ اِلَّا دُعَاۤءً وَّنِدَاۤءً ۗ صُمٌّ ۢ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُوْنَ ١٧١

- shouts

- at what

- لَا
- not
- yasmaʿu
- يَسْمَعُ
- (does) hear
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- duʿāan
- دُعَآءً
- calls
- wanidāan
- وَنِدَآءًۚ
- and cries
- ṣummun
- صُمٌّۢ
- deaf
- buk'mun
- بُكْمٌ
- dumb
- ʿum'yun
- عُمْىٌ
- (and) blind
- fahum
- فَهُمْ
- [so] they
- lā
- لَا
- (do) not
- yaʿqilūna
- يَعْقِلُونَ
- understand
The example of those who disbelieve is like that of one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries [i.e., cattle or sheep] – deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 171)Tafsir
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا كُلُوْا مِنْ طَيِّبٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنٰكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوْا لِلّٰهِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ اِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُوْنَ ١٧٢
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- O you
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- who
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- believe[d]!
- kulū
- كُلُوا۟
- Eat
- min
- مِن
- from
- ṭayyibāti
- طَيِّبَٰتِ
- (the) good
- mā
- مَا
- what
- razaqnākum
- رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ
- We have provided you
- wa-ush'kurū
- وَٱشْكُرُوا۟
- and be grateful
- lillahi
- لِلَّهِ
- to Allah
- in
- إِن
- if
- kuntum
- كُنتُمْ
- you
- iyyāhu
- إِيَّاهُ
- alone
- taʿbudūna
- تَعْبُدُونَ
- worship Him
O you who have believed, eat from the good [i.e., lawful] things which We have provided for you and be grateful to Allah if it is [indeed] Him that you worship. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 172)Tafsir
اِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ وَالدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيْرِ وَمَآ اُهِلَّ بِهٖ لِغَيْرِ اللّٰهِ ۚ فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَّلَا عَادٍ فَلَآ اِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ ۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ١٧٣
- innamā

- ٱلْمَيْتَةَ
- the dead animals
- wal-dama
- وَٱلدَّمَ
- and [the] blood
- walaḥma
- وَلَحْمَ
- and flesh
- l-khinzīri
- ٱلْخِنزِيرِ
- (of) swine
- wamā
- وَمَآ
- and what
- uhilla
- أُهِلَّ
- has been dedicated
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- [with it]
- lighayri
- لِغَيْرِ
- to other than
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۖ
- Allah
- famani
- فَمَنِ
- So whoever
- uḍ'ṭurra
- ٱضْطُرَّ
- (is) forced by necessity
- ghayra
- غَيْرَ
- without
- bāghin
- بَاغٍ
- (being) disobedient
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- ʿādin
- عَادٍ
- transgressor
- falā
- فَلَآ
- then no
- ith'ma
- إِثْمَ
- sin
- ʿalayhi
- عَلَيْهِۚ
- on him
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- ghafūrun
- غَفُورٌ
- (is) Oft-Forgiving
- raḥīmun
- رَّحِيمٌ
- Most Merciful
He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 173)Tafsir
اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ يَكْتُمُوْنَ مَآ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ مِنَ الْكِتٰبِ وَيَشْتَرُوْنَ بِهٖ ثَمَنًا قَلِيْلًاۙ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ مَا يَأْكُلُوْنَ فِيْ بُطُوْنِهِمْ اِلَّا النَّارَ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللّٰهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيْهِمْ ۚوَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَلِيْمٌ ١٧٤
- inna

- Indeed
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those who
- yaktumūna
- يَكْتُمُونَ
- conceal
- mā
- مَآ
- what
- anzala
- أَنزَلَ
- (has) revealed
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah (has)
- mina
- مِنَ
- of
- l-kitābi
- ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- the Book
- wayashtarūna
- وَيَشْتَرُونَ
- and they purchase
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- there with
- thamanan
- ثَمَنًا
- a gain
- qalīlan
- قَلِيلًاۙ
- little
- ulāika
- أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
- Those
- mā
- مَا
- not
- yakulūna
- يَأْكُلُونَ
- they eat
- fī
- فِى
- in
- buṭūnihim
- بُطُونِهِمْ
- their bellies
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- l-nāra
- ٱلنَّارَ
- the Fire
- walā
- وَلَا
- And not
- yukallimuhumu
- يُكَلِّمُهُمُ
- will speak to them
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- yawma
- يَوْمَ
- (on the) Day
- l-qiyāmati
- ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ
- (of) [the] Judgment
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- yuzakkīhim
- يُزَكِّيهِمْ
- will He purify them
- walahum
- وَلَهُمْ
- and for them
- ʿadhābun
- عَذَابٌ
- (is) a punishment
- alīmun
- أَلِيمٌ
- painful
Indeed, they who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price – those consume not into their bellies except the Fire. And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. And they will have a painful punishment. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 174)Tafsir
اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ اشْتَرَوُا الضَّلٰلَةَ بِالْهُدٰى وَالْعَذَابَ بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ فَمَآ اَصْبَرَهُمْ عَلَى النَّارِ ١٧٥
- ulāika
- أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
- Those
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (are) they who
- ish'tarawū
- ٱشْتَرَوُا۟
- purchase[d]
- l-ḍalālata
- ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ
- [the] astraying
- bil-hudā
- بِٱلْهُدَىٰ
- for [the] Guidance
- wal-ʿadhāba
- وَٱلْعَذَابَ
- and [the] punishment
- bil-maghfirati
- بِٱلْمَغْفِرَةِۚ
- for [the] forgiveness
- famā
- فَمَآ
- So what (is)
- aṣbarahum
- أَصْبَرَهُمْ
- their endurance
- ʿalā
- عَلَى
- on
- l-nāri
- ٱلنَّارِ
- the Fire!
Those are the ones who have exchanged guidance for error and forgiveness for punishment. How patient they are for [i.e., in pursuit of] the Fire! (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 175)Tafsir
ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ نَزَّلَ الْكِتٰبَ بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَاِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اخْتَلَفُوْا فِى الْكِتٰبِ لَفِيْ شِقَاقٍۢ بَعِيْدٍ ࣖ ١٧٦
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- That
- bi-anna
- بِأَنَّ
- (is) because
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- nazzala
- نَزَّلَ
- revealed
- l-kitāba
- ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
- the Book
- bil-ḥaqi
- بِٱلْحَقِّۗ
- with [the] Truth
- wa-inna
- وَإِنَّ
- And indeed
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those
- ikh'talafū
- ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟
- who differed
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-kitābi
- ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- the Book
- lafī
- لَفِى
- (are) surely in
- shiqāqin
- شِقَاقٍۭ
- schism
- baʿīdin
- بَعِيدٍ
- far
That is [deserved by them] because Allah has sent down the Book in truth. And indeed, those who differ over the Book are in extreme dissension. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 176)Tafsir
۞ لَيْسَ الْبِرَّاَنْ تُوَلُّوْا وُجُوْهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَلٰكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ اٰمَنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ وَالْمَلٰۤىِٕكَةِ وَالْكِتٰبِ وَالنَّبِيّٖنَ ۚ وَاٰتَى الْمَالَ عَلٰى حُبِّهٖ ذَوِى الْقُرْبٰى وَالْيَتٰمٰى وَالْمَسٰكِيْنَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيْلِۙ وَالسَّاۤىِٕلِيْنَ وَفىِ الرِّقَابِۚ وَاَقَامَ الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتَى الزَّكٰوةَ ۚ وَالْمُوْفُوْنَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ اِذَا عَاهَدُوْا ۚ وَالصّٰبِرِيْنَ فِى الْبَأْسَاۤءِ وَالضَّرَّاۤءِ وَحِيْنَ الْبَأْسِۗ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ صَدَقُوْا ۗوَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُوْنَ ١٧٧

- لَّيْسَ
- It is not
- l-bira
- ٱلْبِرَّ
- [the] righteousness
- an
- أَن
- that
- tuwallū
- تُوَلُّوا۟
- you turn
- wujūhakum
- وُجُوهَكُمْ
- your faces
- qibala
- قِبَلَ
- towards
- l-mashriqi
- ٱلْمَشْرِقِ
- the east
- wal-maghribi
- وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ
- and the west
- walākinna
- وَلَٰكِنَّ
- [and] but
- l-bira
- ٱلْبِرَّ
- the righteous[ness]
- man
- مَنْ
- (is he) who
- āmana
- ءَامَنَ
- believes
- bil-lahi
- بِٱللَّهِ
- in Allah
- wal-yawmi
- وَٱلْيَوْمِ
- and the Day
- l-ākhiri
- ٱلْءَاخِرِ
- [the] Last
- wal-malāikati
- وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
- and the Angels
- wal-kitābi
- وَٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- and the Book
- wal-nabiyīna
- وَٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ
- and the Prophets
- waātā
- وَءَاتَى
- and gives
- l-māla
- ٱلْمَالَ
- the wealth
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- in
- ḥubbihi
- حُبِّهِۦ
- spite of his love (for it)
- dhawī
- ذَوِى
- (to) those
- l-qur'bā
- ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ
- (of) the near relatives
- wal-yatāmā
- وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ
- and the orphans
- wal-masākīna
- وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينَ
- and the needy
- wa-ib'na
- وَٱبْنَ
- and (of)
- l-sabīli
- ٱلسَّبِيلِ
- the wayfarer
- wal-sāilīna
- وَٱلسَّآئِلِينَ
- and those who ask
- wafī
- وَفِى
- and in
- l-riqābi
- ٱلرِّقَابِ
- freeing the necks (slaves)
- wa-aqāma
- وَأَقَامَ
- and (who) establish
- l-ṣalata
- ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
- the prayer
- waātā
- وَءَاتَى
- and give
- l-zakata
- ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
- the zakah
- wal-mūfūna
- وَٱلْمُوفُونَ
- and those who fulfill
- biʿahdihim
- بِعَهْدِهِمْ
- their covenant
- idhā
- إِذَا
- when
- ʿāhadū
- عَٰهَدُوا۟ۖ
- they make it
- wal-ṣābirīna
- وَٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
- and those who are patient
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-basāi
- ٱلْبَأْسَآءِ
- [the] suffering
- wal-ḍarāi
- وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
- and [the] hardship
- waḥīna
- وَحِينَ
- at (the) time
- l-basi
- ٱلْبَأْسِۗ
- (of) [the] stress
- ulāika
- أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
- Those
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (are) the ones who
- ṣadaqū
- صَدَقُوا۟ۖ
- are true
- wa-ulāika
- وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
- and those
- humu
- هُمُ
- [they]
- l-mutaqūna
- ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ
- (are) the righteous
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives Zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 177)Tafsir
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِصَاصُ فِى الْقَتْلٰىۗ اَلْحُرُّ بِالْحُرِّ وَالْعَبْدُ بِالْعَبْدِ وَالْاُنْثٰى بِالْاُنْثٰىۗ فَمَنْ عُفِيَ لَهٗ مِنْ اَخِيْهِ شَيْءٌ فَاتِّبَاعٌ ۢبِالْمَعْرُوْفِ وَاَدَاۤءٌ اِلَيْهِ بِاِحْسَانٍ ۗ ذٰلِكَ تَخْفِيْفٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ ۗفَمَنِ اعْتَدٰى بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ فَلَهٗ عَذَابٌ اَلِيْمٌ ١٧٨

- Prescribed

- for you
- l-qiṣāṣu
- ٱلْقِصَاصُ
- (is) the legal retribution
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-qatlā
- ٱلْقَتْلَىۖ
- (the matter of) the murdered
- l-ḥuru
- ٱلْحُرُّ
- the freeman
- bil-ḥuri
- بِٱلْحُرِّ
- for the freeman
- wal-ʿabdu
- وَٱلْعَبْدُ
- and the slave
- bil-ʿabdi
- بِٱلْعَبْدِ
- for the slave
- wal-unthā
- وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
- and the female
- bil-unthā
- بِٱلْأُنثَىٰۚ
- for the female
- faman
- فَمَنْ
- But whoever
- ʿufiya
- عُفِىَ
- is pardoned
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- [for it]
- min
- مِنْ
- from
- akhīhi
- أَخِيهِ
- his brother
- shayon
- شَىْءٌ
- anything
- fa-ittibāʿun
- فَٱتِّبَاعٌۢ
- then follows up
- bil-maʿrūfi
- بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ
- with suitable
- wa-adāon
- وَأَدَآءٌ
- [and] payment
- ilayhi
- إِلَيْهِ
- to him
- bi-iḥ'sānin
- بِإِحْسَٰنٍۗ
- with kindness
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- That (is)
- takhfīfun
- تَخْفِيفٌ
- a concession
- min
- مِّن
- from
- rabbikum
- رَّبِّكُمْ
- your Lord
- waraḥmatun
- وَرَحْمَةٌۗ
- and mercy
- famani
- فَمَنِ
- Then whoever
- iʿ'tadā
- ٱعْتَدَىٰ
- transgresses
- baʿda
- بَعْدَ
- after
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- that
- falahu
- فَلَهُۥ
- then for him
- ʿadhābun
- عَذَابٌ
- (is) a punishment
- alīmun
- أَلِيمٌ
- painful
O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered – the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But whoever overlooks from his brother [i.e., the killer] anything, then there should be a suitable follow-up and payment to him [i.e., the deceased's heir or legal representative] with good conduct. This is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy. But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 178)Tafsir
وَلَكُمْ فِى الْقِصَاصِ حَيٰوةٌ يّٰٓاُولِى الْاَلْبَابِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُوْنَ ١٧٩
- walakum
- وَلَكُمْ
- And for you
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-qiṣāṣi
- ٱلْقِصَاصِ
- the legal retribution
- ḥayatun
- حَيَوٰةٌ
- (is) life
- yāulī
- يَٰٓأُو۟لِى
- O men
- l-albābi
- ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ
- (of) understanding!
- laʿallakum
- لَعَلَّكُمْ
- So that you may
- tattaqūna
- تَتَّقُونَ
- (become) righteous
And there is for you in legal retribution [saving of] life, O you [people] of understanding, that you may become righteous. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 179)Tafsir
كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ اِذَا حَضَرَ اَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ اِنْ تَرَكَ خَيْرًا ۖ ۨالْوَصِيَّةُ لِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْاَقْرَبِيْنَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِۚ حَقًّا عَلَى الْمُتَّقِيْنَ ۗ ١٨٠

- for you

- حَضَرَ
- approaches
- aḥadakumu
- أَحَدَكُمُ
- any of you

- ٱلْمَوْتُ
- [the] death
- in
- إِن
- if
- taraka
- تَرَكَ
- he leaves
- khayran
- خَيْرًا
- good
- l-waṣiyatu
- ٱلْوَصِيَّةُ
- (making) the will
- lil'wālidayni
- لِلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ
- for the parents
- wal-aqrabīna
- وَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ
- and the near relatives
- bil-maʿrūfi
- بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِۖ
- with due fairness
- ḥaqqan
- حَقًّا
- a duty
- ʿalā
- عَلَى
- on
- l-mutaqīna
- ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
- the righteous ones
Prescribed for you when death approaches [any] one of you if he leaves wealth [is that he should make] a bequest for the parents and near relatives according to what is acceptable – a duty upon the righteous. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 180)Tafsir
