وَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمْ رَسُوْلٌ مِّنْ عِنْدِ اللّٰهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ نَبَذَ فَرِيْقٌ مِّنَ الَّذِيْنَ اُوْتُوا الْكِتٰبَۙ كِتٰبَ اللّٰهِ وَرَاۤءَ ظُهُوْرِهِمْ كَاَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَۖ ١٠١

- And when

- جَآءَهُمْ
- came to them
- rasūlun
- رَسُولٌ
- a Messenger

- from
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- muṣaddiqun
- مُصَدِّقٌ
- confirming

- لِّمَا
- what
- maʿahum
- مَعَهُمْ
- (was) with them
- nabadha
- نَبَذَ
- threw away
- farīqun
- فَرِيقٌ
- a party
- mina
- مِّنَ
- of
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those who
- ūtū
- أُوتُوا۟
- were given
- l-kitāba
- ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
- the Book
- kitāba
- كِتَٰبَ
- (the) Book
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- warāa
- وَرَآءَ
- behind
- ẓuhūrihim
- ظُهُورِهِمْ
- their backs
- ka-annahum
- كَأَنَّهُمْ
- as if they
- lā
- لَا
- (do) not
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- know
And when a messenger from Allah came to them confirming that which was with them, a party of those who had been given the Scripture threw the Scripture of Allah [i.e., the Torah] behind their backs as if they did not know [what it contained]. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 101)Tafsir
وَاتَّبَعُوْا مَا تَتْلُوا الشَّيٰطِيْنُ عَلٰى مُلْكِ سُلَيْمٰنَ ۚ وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمٰنُ وَلٰكِنَّ الشَّيٰطِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا يُعَلِّمُوْنَ النَّاسَ السِّحْرَ وَمَآ اُنْزِلَ عَلَى الْمَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ هَارُوْتَ وَمَارُوْتَ ۗ وَمَا يُعَلِّمٰنِ مِنْ اَحَدٍ حَتّٰى يَقُوْلَآ اِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلَا تَكْفُرْ ۗ فَيَتَعَلَّمُوْنَ مِنْهُمَا مَا يُفَرِّقُوْنَ بِهٖ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَزَوْجِهٖ ۗ وَمَا هُمْ بِضَاۤرِّيْنَ بِهٖ مِنْ اَحَدٍ اِلَّا بِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِ ۗ وَيَتَعَلَّمُوْنَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنْفَعُهُمْ ۗ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمُوْا لَمَنِ اشْتَرٰىهُ مَا لَهٗ فِى الْاٰخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَاقٍ ۗ وَلَبِئْسَ مَاشَرَوْا بِهٖٓ اَنْفُسَهُمْ ۗ لَوْ كَانُوْا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ١٠٢
- wa-ittabaʿū
- وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟
- And they followed
- mā
- مَا

- تَتْلُوا۟
- recite(d)
- l-shayāṭīnu
- ٱلشَّيَٰطِينُ
- the devils
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- over
- mul'ki
- مُلْكِ
- (the) kingdom
- sulaymāna
- سُلَيْمَٰنَۖ
- (of) Sulaiman
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- kafara
- كَفَرَ
- disbelieved
- sulaymānu
- سُلَيْمَٰنُ
- Sulaiman
- walākinna
- وَلَٰكِنَّ
- [and] but
- l-shayāṭīna
- ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
- the devils
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوا۟
- disbelieved
- yuʿallimūna
- يُعَلِّمُونَ
- they teach
- l-nāsa
- ٱلنَّاسَ
- the people
- l-siḥ'ra
- ٱلسِّحْرَ
- [the] magic
- wamā
- وَمَآ
- and what
- unzila
- أُنزِلَ
- was sent down
- ʿalā
- عَلَى
- to
- l-malakayni
- ٱلْمَلَكَيْنِ
- the two angels
- bibābila
- بِبَابِلَ
- in Babylon
- hārūta
- هَٰرُوتَ
- Harut
- wamārūta
- وَمَٰرُوتَۚ
- and Marut
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- yuʿallimāni
- يُعَلِّمَانِ
- they both teach
- min
- مِنْ
- any
- aḥadin
- أَحَدٍ
- one
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- unless
- yaqūlā
- يَقُولَآ
- they [both] say
- innamā
- إِنَّمَا
- "Only
- naḥnu
- نَحْنُ
- we
- fit'natun
- فِتْنَةٌ
- (are) a trial
- falā
- فَلَا
- so (do) not
- takfur
- تَكْفُرْۖ
- disbelieve"
- fayataʿallamūna
- فَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ
- But they learn
- min'humā
- مِنْهُمَا
- from those two
- mā
- مَا
- what
- yufarriqūna
- يُفَرِّقُونَ
- [they] causes separation
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- with it
- bayna
- بَيْنَ
- between
- l-mari
- ٱلْمَرْءِ
- the man
- wazawjihi
- وَزَوْجِهِۦۚ
- and his spouse
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- hum
- هُم
- they (could)
- biḍārrīna
- بِضَآرِّينَ
- at all [be those who] harm
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- with it
- min
- مِنْ
- any
- aḥadin
- أَحَدٍ
- one
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- bi-idh'ni
- بِإِذْنِ
- by permission
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۚ
- (of) Allah
- wayataʿallamūna
- وَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ
- And they learn
- mā
- مَا
- what
- yaḍurruhum
- يَضُرُّهُمْ
- harms them
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- yanfaʿuhum
- يَنفَعُهُمْۚ
- profits them
- walaqad
- وَلَقَدْ
- And indeed
- ʿalimū
- عَلِمُوا۟
- they knew
- lamani
- لَمَنِ
- that whoever
- ish'tarāhu
- ٱشْتَرَىٰهُ
- buys it
- mā
- مَا
- not
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- for him
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-ākhirati
- ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
- the Hereafter
- min
- مِنْ
- any
- khalāqin
- خَلَٰقٍۚ
- share
- walabi'sa
- وَلَبِئْسَ
- And surely evil
- mā
- مَا
- (is) what
- sharaw
- شَرَوْا۟
- they sold
- bihi
- بِهِۦٓ
- with it
- anfusahum
- أَنفُسَهُمْۚ
- themselves
- law
- لَوْ
- if
- kānū
- كَانُوا۟
- they were
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- (to) know
And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harout and Marout. But they [i.e., the two angels] do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And they [i.e., people] learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But they [i.e., the Children of Israel] certainly knew that whoever purchased it [i.e., magic] would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 102)Tafsir
وَلَوْ اَنَّهُمْ اٰمَنُوْا وَاتَّقَوْا لَمَثُوْبَةٌ مِّنْ عِنْدِ اللّٰهِ خَيْرٌ ۗ لَوْ كَانُوْا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ࣖ ١٠٣
- walaw
- وَلَوْ
- And if
- annahum
- أَنَّهُمْ
- [that] they
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- (had) believed
- wa-ittaqaw
- وَٱتَّقَوْا۟
- and feared (Allah)
- lamathūbatun
- لَمَثُوبَةٌ
- surely (the) reward
- min
- مِّنْ
- (of)
- ʿindi
- عِندِ
- from
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- khayrun
- خَيْرٌۖ
- (would have been) better
- law
- لَّوْ
- if
- kānū
- كَانُوا۟
- they were
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- (to) know
And if they had believed and feared Allah, then the reward from Allah would have been [far] better, if they only knew. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 103)Tafsir
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا تَقُوْلُوْا رَاعِنَا وَقُوْلُوا انْظُرْنَا وَاسْمَعُوْا وَلِلْكٰفِرِيْنَ عَذَابٌ اَلِيْمٌ ١٠٤
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- O you
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- who
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- believe[d]!
- lā
- لَا
- "(Do) not
- taqūlū
- تَقُولُوا۟
- say
- rāʿinā
- رَٰعِنَا
- "Raina"
- waqūlū
- وَقُولُوا۟
- and say
- unẓur'nā
- ٱنظُرْنَا
- "Unzurna"
- wa-is'maʿū
- وَٱسْمَعُوا۟ۗ
- and listen
- walil'kāfirīna
- وَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَ
- And for the disbelievers
- ʿadhābun
- عَذَابٌ
- (is) a punishment
- alīmun
- أَلِيمٌ
- painful
O you who have believed, say not [to Allah's Messenger], "Ra’ina" but say, "Unzurna" and listen. And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 104)Tafsir
مَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ وَلَا الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ اَنْ يُّنَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّنْ خَيْرٍ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْ ۗ وَاللّٰهُ يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهٖ مَنْ يَّشَاۤءُ ۗ وَاللّٰهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيْمِ ١٠٥

- مَّا
- (Do) not
- yawaddu
- يَوَدُّ
- like
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those who
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوا۟
- disbelieve
- min
- مِنْ
- from
- ahli
- أَهْلِ
- (the) People
- l-kitābi
- ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- (of) the Book
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- l-mush'rikīna
- ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
- those who associate partners (with Allah)
- an
- أَن
- that
- yunazzala
- يُنَزَّلَ
- (there should) be sent down
- ʿalaykum
- عَلَيْكُم
- to you
- min
- مِّنْ
- any
- khayrin
- خَيْرٍ
- good
- min
- مِّن
- from
- rabbikum
- رَّبِّكُمْۗ
- your Lord
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- yakhtaṣṣu
- يَخْتَصُّ
- chooses
- biraḥmatihi
- بِرَحْمَتِهِۦ
- for His Mercy
- man
- مَن
- whom
- yashāu
- يَشَآءُۚ
- He wills
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- dhū
- ذُو
- (is the) Possessor
- l-faḍli
- ٱلْفَضْلِ
- (of) [the] Bounty
- l-ʿaẓīmi
- ٱلْعَظِيمِ
- [the] Great
Neither those who disbelieve from the People of the Scripture [i.e., the Jews and Christians] nor the polytheists wish that any good should be sent down to you from your Lord. But Allah selects for His mercy whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 105)Tafsir
۞ مَا نَنْسَخْ مِنْ اٰيَةٍ اَوْ نُنْسِهَا نَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ مِّنْهَآ اَوْ مِثْلِهَا ۗ اَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ ١٠٦

- نَنسَخْ
- We abrogate

- مِنْ
- (of)
- āyatin
- ءَايَةٍ
- a sign
- aw
- أَوْ
- or
- nunsihā
- نُنسِهَا
- [We] cause it to be forgotten

- We bring
- bikhayrin
- بِخَيْرٍ
- better
- min'hā
- مِّنْهَآ
- than it
- aw
- أَوْ
- or
- mith'lihā
- مِثْلِهَآۗ
- similar (to) it
- alam
- أَلَمْ
- Do not
- taʿlam
- تَعْلَمْ
- you know
- anna
- أَنَّ
- that
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- over
- kulli
- كُلِّ
- every
- shayin
- شَىْءٍ
- thing
- qadīrun
- قَدِيرٌ
- (is) All-Powerful?
We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allah is over all things competent? (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 106)Tafsir
اَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ لَهٗ مُلْكُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ ۗ وَمَا لَكُمْ مِّنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ مِنْ وَّلِيٍّ وَّلَا نَصِيْرٍ ١٠٧
- alam
- أَلَمْ
- Do not
- taʿlam
- تَعْلَمْ
- you know
- anna
- أَنَّ
- that
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- for Him
- mul'ku
- مُلْكُ
- (is the) Kingdom
- l-samāwāti
- ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
- (of) the heavens
- wal-arḍi
- وَٱلْأَرْضِۗ
- and the earth?
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- lakum
- لَكُم
- (is) for you
- min
- مِّن
- from
- dūni
- دُونِ
- besides
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- min
- مِن
- any
- waliyyin
- وَلِىٍّ
- protector
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- naṣīrin
- نَصِيرٍ
- any helper
Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and [that] you have not besides Allah any protector or any helper? (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 107)Tafsir
اَمْ تُرِيْدُوْنَ اَنْ تَسْـَٔلُوْا رَسُوْلَكُمْ كَمَا سُىِٕلَ مُوْسٰى مِنْ قَبْلُ ۗوَمَنْ يَّتَبَدَّلِ الْكُفْرَ بِالْاِيْمَانِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَاۤءَ السَّبِيْلِ ١٠٨
- am
- أَمْ
- Or
- turīdūna
- تُرِيدُونَ
- (do) you wish
- an
- أَن
- that
- tasalū
- تَسْـَٔلُوا۟
- you ask
- rasūlakum
- رَسُولَكُمْ
- your Messenger
- kamā
- كَمَا
- as
- su-ila
- سُئِلَ
- was asked
- mūsā
- مُوسَىٰ
- Musa
- min
- مِن
- from
- qablu
- قَبْلُۗ
- before?
- waman
- وَمَن
- And whoever
- yatabaddali
- يَتَبَدَّلِ
- exchanges
- l-kuf'ra
- ٱلْكُفْرَ
- [the] disbelief
- bil-īmāni
- بِٱلْإِيمَٰنِ
- with [the] faith
- faqad
- فَقَدْ
- so certainly
- ḍalla
- ضَلَّ
- he went astray (from)
- sawāa
- سَوَآءَ
- (the) evenness
- l-sabīli
- ٱلسَّبِيلِ
- (of) the way
Or do you intend to ask your Messenger as Moses was asked before? And whoever exchanges faith for disbelief has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 108)Tafsir
وَدَّ كَثِيْرٌ مِّنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ لَوْ يَرُدُّوْنَكُمْ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِ اِيْمَانِكُمْ كُفَّارًاۚ حَسَدًا مِّنْ عِنْدِ اَنْفُسِهِمْ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الْحَقُّ ۚ فَاعْفُوْا وَاصْفَحُوْا حَتّٰى يَأْتِيَ اللّٰهُ بِاَمْرِهٖ ۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ ١٠٩
- wadda
- وَدَّ
- Wish[ed]
- kathīrun
- كَثِيرٌ
- many
- min
- مِّنْ
- from
- ahli
- أَهْلِ
- (the) People
- l-kitābi
- ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- (of) the Book
- law
- لَوْ
- if
- yaruddūnakum
- يَرُدُّونَكُم
- they could turn you back
- min
- مِّنۢ
- from
- baʿdi
- بَعْدِ
- after
- īmānikum
- إِيمَٰنِكُمْ
- your (having) faith
- kuffāran
- كُفَّارًا
- (to) disbelievers
- ḥasadan
- حَسَدًا
- (out of) jealousy
- min
- مِّنْ
- from
- ʿindi
- عِندِ
- (of)
- anfusihim
- أَنفُسِهِم
- themselves
- min
- مِّنۢ
- (even) from
- baʿdi
- بَعْدِ
- after
- mā
- مَا
- [what]
- tabayyana
- تَبَيَّنَ
- became clear
- lahumu
- لَهُمُ
- to them
- l-ḥaqu
- ٱلْحَقُّۖ
- the truth
- fa-iʿ'fū
- فَٱعْفُوا۟
- So forgive
- wa-iṣ'faḥū
- وَٱصْفَحُوا۟
- and overlook
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- until
- yatiya
- يَأْتِىَ
- brings
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- bi-amrihi
- بِأَمْرِهِۦٓۗ
- His Command
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- on
- kulli
- كُلِّ
- every
- shayin
- شَىْءٍ
- thing
- qadīrun
- قَدِيرٌ
- (is) All-Powerful
Many of the People of the Scripture wish they could turn you back to disbelief after you have believed, out of envy from themselves [even] after the truth has become clear to them. So pardon and overlook until Allah delivers His command. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 109)Tafsir
وَاَقِيْمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ ۗ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوْا لِاَنْفُسِكُمْ مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوْهُ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ ۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ ١١٠
- wa-aqīmū
- وَأَقِيمُوا۟
- And establish
- l-ṣalata
- ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
- the prayer
- waātū
- وَءَاتُوا۟
- and give
- l-zakata
- ٱلزَّكَوٰةَۚ
- [the] zakah
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And whatever
- tuqaddimū
- تُقَدِّمُوا۟
- you send forth
- li-anfusikum
- لِأَنفُسِكُم
- for yourselves
- min
- مِّنْ
- of
- khayrin
- خَيْرٍ
- good (deeds)
- tajidūhu
- تَجِدُوهُ
- you will find it
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- with
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۗ
- Allah
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- bimā
- بِمَا
- of what
- taʿmalūna
- تَعْمَلُونَ
- you do
- baṣīrun
- بَصِيرٌ
- (is) All-Seer
And establish prayer and give Zakah, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah. Indeed Allah, of what you do, is Seeing. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 110)Tafsir
