وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمْ اٰمِنُوْا بِمَآ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ قَالُوْا نُؤْمِنُ بِمَآ اُنْزِلَ عَلَيْنَا وَيَكْفُرُوْنَ بِمَا وَرَاۤءَهٗ وَهُوَ الْحَقُّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ ۗ قُلْ فَلِمَ تَقْتُلُوْنَ اَنْۢبِيَاۤءَ اللّٰهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ ٩١
- wa-idhā
- وَإِذَا
- And when
- qīla
- قِيلَ
- it is said
- lahum
- لَهُمْ
- to them
- āminū
- ءَامِنُوا۟
- "Believe
- bimā
- بِمَآ
- in what
- anzala
- أَنزَلَ
- has revealed
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah"
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- they say
- nu'minu
- نُؤْمِنُ
- "We believe
- bimā
- بِمَآ
- in what
- unzila
- أُنزِلَ
- was revealed
- ʿalaynā
- عَلَيْنَا
- to us"
- wayakfurūna
- وَيَكْفُرُونَ
- And they disbelieve
- bimā
- بِمَا
- in what
- warāahu
- وَرَآءَهُۥ
- (is) besides it
- wahuwa
- وَهُوَ
- while it
- l-ḥaqu
- ٱلْحَقُّ
- (is) the truth
- muṣaddiqan
- مُصَدِّقًا
- confirming
- limā
- لِّمَا
- what
- maʿahum
- مَعَهُمْۗ
- (is) with them
- qul
- قُلْ
- Say
- falima
- فَلِمَ
- "Then why
- taqtulūna
- تَقْتُلُونَ
- (did) you kill
- anbiyāa
- أَنۢبِيَآءَ
- (the) Prophets
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- min
- مِن
- from
- qablu
- قَبْلُ
- before
- in
- إِن
- if
- kuntum
- كُنتُم
- you were
- mu'minīna
- مُّؤْمِنِينَ
- believers?"
And when it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah has revealed," they say, "We believe [only] in what was revealed to us." And they disbelieve in what came after it, while it is the truth confirming that which is with them. Say, "Then why did you kill the prophets of Allah before, if you are [indeed] believers?" (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 91)Tafsir
۞ وَلَقَدْ جَاۤءَكُمْ مُّوْسٰى بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذْتُمُ الْعِجْلَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ وَاَنْتُمْ ظٰلِمُوْنَ ٩٢
- walaqad
- وَلَقَدْ
- And indeed
- jāakum
- جَآءَكُم
- came to you
- mūsā
- مُّوسَىٰ
- Musa
- bil-bayināti
- بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
- with [the] clear signs
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- ittakhadhtumu
- ٱتَّخَذْتُمُ
- you took
- l-ʿij'la
- ٱلْعِجْلَ
- the calf
- min
- مِنۢ
- from
- baʿdihi
- بَعْدِهِۦ
- after him
- wa-antum
- وَأَنتُمْ
- and you
- ẓālimūna
- ظَٰلِمُونَ
- (were) wrongdoers
And Moses had certainly brought you clear proofs. Then you took the calf [in worship] after that, while you were wrongdoers. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 92)Tafsir
وَاِذْ اَخَذْنَا مِيْثَاقَكُمْ وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَكُمُ الطُّوْرَۗ خُذُوْا مَآ اٰتَيْنٰكُمْ بِقُوَّةٍ وَّاسْمَعُوْا ۗ قَالُوْا سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَاُشْرِبُوْا فِيْ قُلُوْبِهِمُ الْعِجْلَ بِكُفْرِهِمْ ۗ قُلْ بِئْسَمَا يَأْمُرُكُمْ بِهٖٓ اِيْمَانُكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ ٩٣
- wa-idh
- وَإِذْ
- And when
- akhadhnā
- أَخَذْنَا
- We took
- mīthāqakum
- مِيثَٰقَكُمْ
- your covenant
- warafaʿnā
- وَرَفَعْنَا
- and We raised
- fawqakumu
- فَوْقَكُمُ
- over you
- l-ṭūra
- ٱلطُّورَ
- the mount
- khudhū
- خُذُوا۟
- "Hold
- mā
- مَآ
- what
- ātaynākum
- ءَاتَيْنَٰكُم
- We gave you
- biquwwatin
- بِقُوَّةٍ
- with firmness
- wa-is'maʿū
- وَٱسْمَعُوا۟ۖ
- and listen"
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- samiʿ'nā
- سَمِعْنَا
- "We heard
- waʿaṣaynā
- وَعَصَيْنَا
- and we disobeyed"
- wa-ush'ribū
- وَأُشْرِبُوا۟
- And they were made to drink
- fī
- فِى
- in
- qulūbihimu
- قُلُوبِهِمُ
- their hearts
- l-ʿij'la
- ٱلْعِجْلَ
- (love of) the calf
- bikuf'rihim
- بِكُفْرِهِمْۚ
- because of their disbelief
- qul
- قُلْ
- Say
- bi'samā
- بِئْسَمَا
- "Evil (is) that
- yamurukum
- يَأْمُرُكُم
- orders you (to do) it
- bihi
- بِهِۦٓ
- with
- īmānukum
- إِيمَٰنُكُمْ
- your faith
- in
- إِن
- if
- kuntum
- كُنتُم
- you are
- mu'minīna
- مُّؤْمِنِينَ
- believers"
And [recall] when We took your covenant and raised over you the mount, [saying], "Take what We have given you with determination and listen." They said [instead], "We hear and disobey." And their hearts absorbed [the worship of] the calf because of their disbelief. Say, "How wretched is that which your faith enjoins upon you, if you should be believers." (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 93)Tafsir
قُلْ اِنْ كَانَتْ لَكُمُ الدَّارُ الْاٰخِرَةُ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ خَالِصَةً مِّنْ دُوْنِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا الْمَوْتَ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ ٩٤
- qul
- قُلْ
- Say
- in
- إِن
- "If
- kānat
- كَانَتْ
- is
- lakumu
- لَكُمُ
- for you
- l-dāru
- ٱلدَّارُ
- the home
- l-ākhiratu
- ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ
- (of) the Hereafter
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- with
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- khāliṣatan
- خَالِصَةً
- exclusively
- min
- مِّن
- from
- dūni
- دُونِ
- excluding
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- the mankind
- fatamannawū
- فَتَمَنَّوُا۟
- then wish
- l-mawta
- ٱلْمَوْتَ
- (for) [the] death
- in
- إِن
- if
- kuntum
- كُنتُمْ
- you are
- ṣādiqīna
- صَٰدِقِينَ
- truthful"
Say, [O Muhammad], "If the home of the Hereafter with Allah is for you alone and not the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful." (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 94)Tafsir
وَلَنْ يَّتَمَنَّوْهُ اَبَدًاۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ اَيْدِيْهِمْ ۗ وَاللّٰهُ عَلِيْمٌ ۢ بِالظّٰلِمِيْنَ ٩٥
- walan
- وَلَن
- And never (will)
- yatamannawhu
- يَتَمَنَّوْهُ
- they wish for it
- abadan
- أَبَدًۢا
- ever
- bimā
- بِمَا
- because
- qaddamat
- قَدَّمَتْ
- (of what) sent ahead
- aydīhim
- أَيْدِيهِمْۗ
- their hands
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- ʿalīmun
- عَلِيمٌۢ
- (is) All-Knower
- bil-ẓālimīna
- بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
- of the wrongdoers
But never will they wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 95)Tafsir
وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ اَحْرَصَ النَّاسِ عَلٰى حَيٰوةٍ ۛوَمِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اَشْرَكُوْا ۛيَوَدُّ اَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ اَلْفَ سَنَةٍۚ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحْزِحِهٖ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ اَنْ يُّعَمَّرَۗ وَاللّٰهُ بَصِيْرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ࣖ ٩٦
- walatajidannahum
- وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ
- And surely you will find them
- aḥraṣa
- أَحْرَصَ
- (the) most greedy
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- (of) [the] mankind
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- for
- ḥayatin
- حَيَوٰةٍ
- life
- wamina
- وَمِنَ
- and (greedier) than
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those who
- ashrakū
- أَشْرَكُوا۟ۚ
- associate[d] partners (with Allah)
- yawaddu
- يَوَدُّ
- Loves
- aḥaduhum
- أَحَدُهُمْ
- (each) one of them
- law
- لَوْ
- if
- yuʿammaru
- يُعَمَّرُ
- he could be granted a life
- alfa
- أَلْفَ
- (of) a thousand
- sanatin
- سَنَةٍ
- year(s)
- wamā
- وَمَا
- But not
- huwa
- هُوَ
- it
- bimuzaḥziḥihi
- بِمُزَحْزِحِهِۦ
- (will) remove him
- mina
- مِنَ
- from
- l-ʿadhābi
- ٱلْعَذَابِ
- the punishment
- an
- أَن
- that
- yuʿammara
- يُعَمَّرَۗ
- he should be granted life
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- baṣīrun
- بَصِيرٌۢ
- (is) All-Seer
- bimā
- بِمَا
- of what
- yaʿmalūna
- يَعْمَلُونَ
- they do
And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life – [even] more than those who associate others with Allah. One of them wishes that he could be granted life a thousand years, but it would not remove him in the least from the [coming] punishment that he should be granted life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 96)Tafsir
قُلْ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّجِبْرِيْلَ فَاِنَّهٗ نَزَّلَهٗ عَلٰى قَلْبِكَ بِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَهُدًى وَّبُشْرٰى لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ ٩٧
- qul
- قُلْ
- Say
- man
- مَن
- "Whoever
- kāna
- كَانَ
- is
- ʿaduwwan
- عَدُوًّا
- an enemy
- lijib'rīla
- لِّجِبْرِيلَ
- to Jibreel
- fa-innahu
- فَإِنَّهُۥ
- then indeed he
- nazzalahu
- نَزَّلَهُۥ
- brought it down
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- on
- qalbika
- قَلْبِكَ
- your heart
- bi-idh'ni
- بِإِذْنِ
- by (the) permission
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- muṣaddiqan
- مُصَدِّقًا
- confirming
- limā
- لِّمَا
- what
- bayna
- بَيْنَ
- (was)
- yadayhi
- يَدَيْهِ
- before it
- wahudan
- وَهُدًى
- and a guidance
- wabush'rā
- وَبُشْرَىٰ
- and glad tiding(s)
- lil'mu'minīna
- لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
- for the believers"
Say, "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel – it is [none but] he who has brought it [i.e., the Quran] down upon your heart, [O Muhammad], by permission of Allah, confirming that which was before it and as guidance and good tidings for the believers." (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 97)Tafsir
مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّلّٰهِ وَمَلٰۤىِٕكَتِهٖ وَرُسُلِهٖ وَجِبْرِيْلَ وَمِيْكٰىلَ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَدُوٌّ لِّلْكٰفِرِيْنَ ٩٨
- man
- مَن
- Whoever
- kāna
- كَانَ
- is
- ʿaduwwan
- عَدُوًّا
- an enemy
- lillahi
- لِّلَّهِ
- (to) Allah
- wamalāikatihi
- وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ
- and His Angels
- warusulihi
- وَرُسُلِهِۦ
- and His Messengers
- wajib'rīla
- وَجِبْرِيلَ
- and Jibreel
- wamīkāla
- وَمِيكَىٰلَ
- and Meekael
- fa-inna
- فَإِنَّ
- then indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- ʿaduwwun
- عَدُوٌّ
- (is) an enemy
- lil'kāfirīna
- لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ
- to the disbelievers
Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and His messengers and Gabriel and Michael – then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 98)Tafsir
وَلَقَدْ اَنْزَلْنَآ اِلَيْكَ اٰيٰتٍۢ بَيِّنٰتٍۚ وَمَا يَكْفُرُ بِهَآ اِلَّا الْفٰسِقُوْنَ ٩٩
- walaqad
- وَلَقَدْ
- And indeed
- anzalnā
- أَنزَلْنَآ
- We revealed
- ilayka
- إِلَيْكَ
- to you
- āyātin
- ءَايَٰتٍۭ
- Verses
- bayyinātin
- بَيِّنَٰتٍۖ
- clear
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and not
- yakfuru
- يَكْفُرُ
- disbelieves
- bihā
- بِهَآ
- in them
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- l-fāsiqūna
- ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ
- the defiantly disobedient
And We have certainly revealed to you verses [which are] clear proofs, and no one would deny them except the defiantly disobedient. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 99)Tafsir
اَوَكُلَّمَا عٰهَدُوْا عَهْدًا نَّبَذَهٗ فَرِيْقٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۗ بَلْ اَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ ١٠٠
- awakullamā
- أَوَكُلَّمَا
- And is (it not that) whenever
- ʿāhadū
- عَٰهَدُوا۟
- they took
- ʿahdan
- عَهْدًا
- a covenant
- nabadhahu
- نَّبَذَهُۥ
- threw it away
- farīqun
- فَرِيقٌ
- a party
- min'hum
- مِّنْهُمۚ
- of them?
- bal
- بَلْ
- Nay
- aktharuhum
- أَكْثَرُهُمْ
- most of them
- lā
- لَا
- (do) not
- yu'minūna
- يُؤْمِنُونَ
- believe
Is it not [true] that every time they took a covenant a party of them threw it away? But, [in fact], most of them do not believe. (QS. [2] Al-Baqarah: 100)Tafsir
