Maryam [19]: 78 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اَطَّلَعَ الْغَيْبَ اَمِ اتَّخَذَ عِنْدَ الرَّحْمٰنِ عَهْدًا ۙ (مريم : ١٩)

aṭṭalaʿa
أَطَّلَعَ
Has he looked
l-ghayba
ٱلْغَيْبَ
(into) the unseen
ami
أَمِ
or
ittakhadha
ٱتَّخَذَ
has he taken
ʿinda
عِندَ
from
l-raḥmāni
ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ
the Most Gracious
ʿahdan
عَهْدًا
a promise?

Transliteration:

Attala'al ghaiba amitta khaza'indar Rahmaani 'ahdaa (QS. Maryam:78)

English / Sahih Translation:

Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken from the Most Merciful a promise? (QS. Maryam, ayah 78)

Has he come to learn [something] of the Unseen, that is, has he been given [some] knowledge of it and [of the fact] that he will be given what he has mentioned (here the interrogative hamza [of a-ittala`a, `has he come to learn?'] suffices in place of the conjunctive hamza, which has therefore been omitted) or has he made a covenant with the Compassionate One?, to [the effect that he] be given what he claims?

أَاطَّلَعَ الْغَيْبَ

Has he known the Unseen,

This is a rejection of the person who says,

أَمِ اتَّخَذَ عِندَ الرَّحْمَنِ عَهْدًا



or has he taken a covenant from the Most Gracious!

Or has he received a promise from Allah that he will be given these things It has already been stated that in Sahih Al-Bukhari it is mentioned that covenant means an agreement.
