Al-Qur'an Surah Maryam Verse 48

Maryam [19]: 48 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُوْنَ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ وَاَدْعُوْ رَبِّيْۖ عَسٰٓى اَلَّآ اَكُوْنَ بِدُعَاۤءِ رَبِّيْ شَقِيًّا (مريم : ١٩)

wa-aʿtazilukum
وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ
And I will leave you
wamā
وَمَا
and what
tadʿūna
تَدْعُونَ
you invoke
min
مِن
besides
dūni
دُونِ
besides
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
wa-adʿū
وَأَدْعُوا۟
and I will invoke
rabbī
رَبِّى
my Lord
ʿasā
عَسَىٰٓ
May be
allā
أَلَّآ
that not
akūna
أَكُونَ
I will be
biduʿāi
بِدُعَآءِ
in invocation
rabbī
رَبِّى
(to) my Lord
shaqiyyan
شَقِيًّا
unblessed"

Transliteration:

Wa a'tazilukum wa maa tad'oona min doonil laahi wa ad'o Rabbee 'asaaa allaaa akoona bidu'aaa'i Rabbee shaqiyyaa (QS. Maryam:48)

English / Sahih Translation:

And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy [i.e., disappointed]." (QS. Maryam, ayah 48)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

And I go away from you and what you invoke besides Allah. And I shall invoke my Lord. Hopefully I shall not be a looser by invoking my Lord.”

As I distance myself from ˹all of˺ you and from whatever you invoke besides Allah, I will ˹continue to˺ call upon my Lord ˹alone˺, trusting that I will never be disappointed in invoking my Lord.”

I will distance myself from you and from all that you supplicate besides Allah, and I will supplicate my Lord; perhaps my supplication to my Lord will not go unanswered.”

"And I will turn away from you (all) and from those whom ye invoke besides Allah; I will call on my Lord; perhaps, by my prayer to my Lord, I shall be not unblest."

I shall withdraw from you and all that you call upon beside Allah. I shall only call upon my Lord. I trust the prayer to my Lord will not go unanswered."

I will leave you and those you invoke apart from God, and pray to my Lord. Haply in praying to my Lord I will not be deprived."

"And I shall remain separated from you and all that you worship other than Allah and shall worship my Lord; possibly, by worshipping my Lord, I will not be amongst the unfortunate.”

I dissociate myself from you and whatever you invoke besides Allah. I will supplicate my Lord. Hopefully, I will not be disappointed in supplicating my Lord.’

"And I will withdraw from you (my father and my people), and from whatever you deify and invoke other than God. I pray to my Lord alone; I hope that I will not be unblessed in my prayer to my Lord."

Amatul Rahman Omar

`I shall keep away from you and from that which you call upon besides Allâh. I will pray to my Lord. I hope that in praying to my Lord I shall not be disappointed.´

English Literal

And I separate/isolate myself from you and what you call from other than God, and I call my Lord, maybe/perhaps that I not be with my Lord`s call/prayer miserable/unhappy.

"And I shall remain separated from you and all that you worship other than Allah and shall worship my Lord; possibly, by worshipping my Lord, I will not be amongst the unfortunate.”

Said he, "Peace be upon you! I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord. Verily, He is to me most gracious.

"And I shall turn away from you and from those whom you invoke besides Allah. And I shall call on my Lord; and I hope that I shall not be unblest in my invocation to my Lord."

He said: Peace be to thee! I shall pray my Lord to forgive thee. Surely He is ever Kind to me.

Now I will go away from you and that you call upon, other than Allah. I will call on my Lord. Perhaps I shall not be unblessed in calling my Lord'

And I shall turn away from you and from those whom you invoke besides Allah. And I shall call upon my Lord, and I certainly hope that I shall not be unblessed in my invocation to my Lord."

Wahiduddin Khan

I will separate myself from you and from whatever you call upon besides God, and I will pray only to my Lord. It may well be that, in calling on my Lord, I will not be disappointed."

Talal Itani

And I will withdraw from you, and from what you pray to instead of God. And I will pray to my Lord, and I hope I will not be disappointed in my prayer to my Lord.”

Tafsir jalalayn

And I shall shun you and that which you call upon, [that which] you worship, besides God. I will supplicate, I will worship, my Lord -- hopefully in calling upon, in worshipping, my Lord I shall not be wretched', as you have become wretched by your worship of idols.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَأَدْعُو رَبِّي

And I shall turn away from you and from those whom you invoke besides Allah. And I shall call upon my Lord,

This means, "And I worship my Lord alone, associating no partners with Him."

عَسَى أَلاَّ أَكُونَ بِدُعَاء رَبِّي شَقِيًّا



I certainly hope that I shall not be unblessed in my invocation to my Lord.

The word `Asa (I hope) here means that which will necessarily occur and not that which is hoped for from the impossible. For verily, he (Ibrahim) is the leader of the Prophets other than Muhammad
