Al-Qur'an Surah Maryam Verse 11

Maryam [19]: 11 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَخَرَجَ عَلٰى قَوْمِهٖ مِنَ الْمِحْرَابِ فَاَوْحٰٓى اِلَيْهِمْ اَنْ سَبِّحُوْا بُكْرَةً وَّعَشِيًّا (مريم : ١٩)

بُكْرَةً
(in) the morning
waʿashiyyan
وَعَشِيًّا
and (in) the evening

Transliteration:

Fakharaja 'alaa qawmihee minal mihraabi fa-awhaaa ilaihim an sabbihoo bukratanw wa 'ashiyyaa (QS. Maryam:11)

English / Sahih Translation:

So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. (QS. Maryam, ayah 11)

Then he came out to his people from the place of prayer, and directed them by gestures to proclaim the purity of Allah at morning and evening.

Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night.

So he came from the chamber to his people, and suggested to them (by signs) to sing the praises of the Lord morning and evening.

He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.”

English Literal

So he emerged on (to) his nation, from the center of the assembly/the prayers` niche , so he inspired/transmitted/signaled to them that praise/glorify (at) daybreaks/early mornings and evenings/first darkness/dinnertime.

He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, "Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening."

Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon.

Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening.

And he came out to his people, from the sanctuary, and signaled to them to praise morning and evening.

Tafsir jalalayn

So he emerged before his people from the sanctuary, that is, from the temple -- they had been waiting for him to open it in order to perform [their] prayers therein after his command, as was the custom -- and signalled, indicated, to them, `Make glorifications, perform prayers, at morning and evening', at the beginning of the day and [at] its end, as per usual. He then realised, upon his being prevented from speaking to them, that she was pregnant with John.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

فَخَرَجَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ مِنَ الْمِحْرَابِ

Then he came out to his people from the Mihrab,

referring to the place where he was given the good news of the child.

فَأَوْحَى إِلَيْهِمْ

he indicated to them by signs,

Meaning he made a gesture to them that was subtle and swift.

أَن سَبِّحُوا بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيًّا



to glorify (Allah) in the morning and in the afternoon.

That they should be agreeable to what he was commanded to do during these three days, to increase in his deeds and gratitude to Allah for what He had given him.

Mujahid said,
فَأَوْحَى إِلَيْهِمْ
(he indicated to them by signs),

"He made a gesture."

Wahb and Qatadah said the same
