فَخَرَجَ عَلٰى قَوْمِهٖ مِنَ الْمِحْرَابِ فَاَوْحٰٓى اِلَيْهِمْ اَنْ سَبِّحُوْا بُكْرَةً وَّعَشِيًّا ١١
- fakharaja
- فَخَرَجَ
- Then he came out
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- to
- qawmihi
- قَوْمِهِۦ
- his people
- mina
- مِنَ
- from
- l-miḥ'rābi
- ٱلْمِحْرَابِ
- the prayer chamber
- fa-awḥā
- فَأَوْحَىٰٓ
- and he signaled
- ilayhim
- إِلَيْهِمْ
- to them
- an
- أَن
- to
- sabbiḥū
- سَبِّحُوا۟
- glorify (Allah)
- buk'ratan
- بُكْرَةً
- (in) the morning
- waʿashiyyan
- وَعَشِيًّا
- and (in) the evening
So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. (QS. [19] Maryam: 11)Tafsir
يٰيَحْيٰى خُذِ الْكِتٰبَ بِقُوَّةٍ ۗوَاٰتَيْنٰهُ الْحُكْمَ صَبِيًّاۙ ١٢
- yāyaḥyā
- يَٰيَحْيَىٰ
- "O Yahya!
- khudhi
- خُذِ
- Hold
- l-kitāba
- ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
- the Scripture
- biquwwatin
- بِقُوَّةٍۖ
- with strength"
- waātaynāhu
- وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ
- And We gave him
- l-ḥuk'ma
- ٱلْحُكْمَ
- [the] wisdom
- ṣabiyyan
- صَبِيًّا
- (when he was) a child
[Allah said], "O John, take the Scripture [i.e., adhere to it] with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy (QS. [19] Maryam: 12)Tafsir
وَّحَنَانًا مِّنْ لَّدُنَّا وَزَكٰوةً ۗوَكَانَ تَقِيًّا ۙ ١٣
- waḥanānan
- وَحَنَانًا
- And affection
- min
- مِّن
- from
- ladunnā
- لَّدُنَّا
- Us
- wazakatan
- وَزَكَوٰةًۖ
- and purity
- wakāna
- وَكَانَ
- and he was
- taqiyyan
- تَقِيًّا
- righteous
And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah (QS. [19] Maryam: 13)Tafsir
وَّبَرًّاۢ بِوَالِدَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ جَبَّارًا عَصِيًّا ١٤
- wabarran
- وَبَرًّۢا
- And dutiful
- biwālidayhi
- بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ
- to his parents
- walam
- وَلَمْ
- and not
- yakun
- يَكُن
- he was
- jabbāran
- جَبَّارًا
- a tyrant
- ʿaṣiyyan
- عَصِيًّا
- disobedient
And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. (QS. [19] Maryam: 14)Tafsir
وَسَلٰمٌ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوْمَ يَمُوْتُ وَيَوْمَ يُبْعَثُ حَيًّا ࣖ ١٥
- wasalāmun
- وَسَلَٰمٌ
- And peace be
- ʿalayhi
- عَلَيْهِ
- upon him
- yawma
- يَوْمَ
- (the) day
- wulida
- وُلِدَ
- he was born
- wayawma
- وَيَوْمَ
- and (the) day
- yamūtu
- يَمُوتُ
- he dies
- wayawma
- وَيَوْمَ
- and (the) day
- yub'ʿathu
- يُبْعَثُ
- he will be raised
- ḥayyan
- حَيًّا
- alive
And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. (QS. [19] Maryam: 15)Tafsir
وَاذْكُرْ فِى الْكِتٰبِ مَرْيَمَۘ اِذِ انْتَبَذَتْ مِنْ اَهْلِهَا مَكَانًا شَرْقِيًّا ۙ ١٦
- wa-udh'kur
- وَٱذْكُرْ
- And mention
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-kitābi
- ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- the Book
- maryama
- مَرْيَمَ
- Maryam
- idhi
- إِذِ
- when
- intabadhat
- ٱنتَبَذَتْ
- she withdrew
- min
- مِنْ
- from
- ahlihā
- أَهْلِهَا
- her family
- makānan
- مَكَانًا
- (to) a place
- sharqiyyan
- شَرْقِيًّا
- eastern
And mention, [O Muhammad], in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place toward the east. (QS. [19] Maryam: 16)Tafsir
فَاتَّخَذَتْ مِنْ دُوْنِهِمْ حِجَابًاۗ فَاَرْسَلْنَآ اِلَيْهَا رُوْحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرًا سَوِيًّا ١٧
- fa-ittakhadhat
- فَٱتَّخَذَتْ
- Then she took
- min
- مِن
- from them
- dūnihim
- دُونِهِمْ
- from them
- ḥijāban
- حِجَابًا
- a screen
- fa-arsalnā
- فَأَرْسَلْنَآ
- Then We sent
- ilayhā
- إِلَيْهَا
- to her
- rūḥanā
- رُوحَنَا
- Our Spirit
- fatamathala
- فَتَمَثَّلَ
- then he assumed for her the likeness
- lahā
- لَهَا
- then he assumed for her the likeness
- basharan
- بَشَرًا
- (of) a man
- sawiyyan
- سَوِيًّا
- well-proportioned
And she took, in seclusion from them, a screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel [i.e., Gabriel], and he represented himself to her as a well-proportioned man. (QS. [19] Maryam: 17)Tafsir
قَالَتْ اِنِّيْٓ اَعُوْذُ بِالرَّحْمٰنِ مِنْكَ اِنْ كُنْتَ تَقِيًّا ١٨
- qālat
- قَالَتْ
- She said
- innī
- إِنِّىٓ
- "Indeed I
- aʿūdhu
- أَعُوذُ
- [I] seek refuge
- bil-raḥmāni
- بِٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ
- with the Most Gracious
- minka
- مِنكَ
- from you
- in
- إِن
- if
- kunta
- كُنتَ
- you are
- taqiyyan
- تَقِيًّا
- God fearing"
She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, [so leave me], if you should be fearing of Allah." (QS. [19] Maryam: 18)Tafsir
قَالَ اِنَّمَآ اَنَا۠ رَسُوْلُ رَبِّكِۖ لِاَهَبَ لَكِ غُلٰمًا زَكِيًّا ١٩
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- innamā
- إِنَّمَآ
- "Only
- anā
- أَنَا۠
- I am
- rasūlu
- رَسُولُ
- a Messenger
- rabbiki
- رَبِّكِ
- (from) your Lord
- li-ahaba
- لِأَهَبَ
- that I (may) bestow
- laki
- لَكِ
- on you
- ghulāman
- غُلَٰمًا
- a son
- zakiyyan
- زَكِيًّا
- pure"
He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy [i.e., son]." (QS. [19] Maryam: 19)Tafsir
قَالَتْ اَنّٰى يَكُوْنُ لِيْ غُلٰمٌ وَّلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِيْ بَشَرٌ وَّلَمْ اَكُ بَغِيًّا ٢٠
- qālat
- قَالَتْ
- She said
- annā
- أَنَّىٰ
- "How
- yakūnu
- يَكُونُ
- can be
- lī
- لِى
- for me
- ghulāmun
- غُلَٰمٌ
- a son
- walam
- وَلَمْ
- when not
- yamsasnī
- يَمْسَسْنِى
- has touched me
- basharun
- بَشَرٌ
- a man
- walam
- وَلَمْ
- and not
- aku
- أَكُ
- I am
- baghiyyan
- بَغِيًّا
- unchaste?"
She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" (QS. [19] Maryam: 20)Tafsir
