Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Kahf Verse 78

Al-Kahf [18]: 78 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَ هٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنِكَۚ سَاُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأْوِيْلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا (الكهف : ١٨)

Transliteration:

Qaala haazaa firaaqu bainee wa bainik; sa unabi 'uka bitaaweeli maa lam tastati' 'alaihi sabraa (QS. al-Kahf:78)

English / Sahih Translation:

[Al-Khidhr] said, "This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience. (QS. Al-Kahf, ayah 78)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

He said, “Here is the point of parting ways between me and you. I shall now explain to you the reality of things about which you could not remain patient.

He replied, “This is the parting of our ways. I will explain to you what you could not bear patiently.

He said: "This brings me and you to a parting of ways. Now I shall explain to you the true meaning of things about which you could not remain patient.

"This is the parting of our "ways," he said. "But I will now explain the things you could not bear:

(The divine being thereupon) said, `This is the parting (of the ways) between me and you. Now I shall tell you the significance of that with which you could not have patience:

English Literal

He said: "This (is) separation between me and between you, I will inform you with (an) explanation/interpretation on (of) what you were not able (to have) patience on it."

He said, "This is the parting between you and me; I shall now tell you the interpretation of the matters you could not patiently bear."

So they set out until when they came to the people of a city; and they asked the people thereof for food; but they refused to entertain them. And they found therein a wall which was about to fall into ruins, and he repaired it. Said Moses, "Had you pleased you could certainly have had payment for this."

(Khidr) said: "This is the parting between me and you, I will tell you the interpretation of (those) things over which you were unable to hold patience.

So they went on, until, when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to entertain them as guests. Then they found in it a wall which was on the point of falling, so he put it into a right state, (Moses) said: If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken a recompense for it.

He said: This shall be separation between me and you; now I will inform you of the significance of that with which you could not have patience.

He said: "This is the parting between you and I, I will tell you the interpretation of (those) things over which you were not able to be patient."

He answered, "This is where you and I must part company. But first I will tell you the meaning of the things you could not bear with patiently.

Talal Itani

He said, “This is the parting between you and me. I will tell you the interpretation of what you were unable to endure.

Tafsir jalalayn

Said he, al-Khidr, to him, `This is the parting, that is, the moment for parting, between me and you (bayn wa-baynika, here [the preposition] bayna has been annexed to a non-multiple [noun], but this is allowed [grammatically] because it is then repeated with [its other noun together with] the coordinating ww). I will inform you, before I part company with you, the interpretation of that over which you were not able to maintain patience.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَ هَذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنِكَ



He said;"This is the parting between you and I,

meaning, because you said after the boy was killed that if you asked me anything after that, you would not accompany me any further. So this is the parting of the ways between me and you.

سَأُنَبِّيُكَ بِتَأْوِيلِ

I will tell you the interpretation,

meaning explanation,

مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا



of (those) things over which you were not able to be patient.
