Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Kahf Verse 38

Al-Kahf [18]: 38 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

لٰكِنَّا۠ هُوَ اللّٰهُ رَبِّيْ وَلَآ اُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّيْٓ اَحَدًا (الكهف : ١٨)

lākinnā
لَّٰكِنَّا۠
But as for me
huwa
هُوَ
He
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(is) Allah
rabbī
رَبِّى
my Lord
walā
وَلَآ
and not
ush'riku
أُشْرِكُ
I associate
birabbī
بِرَبِّىٓ
with my Lord
aḥadan
أَحَدًا
anyone

Transliteration:

Laakinaa Huwal laahu Rabbee wa laa ushriku bi Rabbeee ahadaa (QS. al-Kahf:38)

English / Sahih Translation:

But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone. (QS. Al-Kahf, ayah 38)

As for me, I believe that Allah is my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with my Lord.

Tafsir jalalayn

But lo (lkinn is actually [made up of] lkin an, `but I ... ', where the hamza vowel has [either] been transferred onto the nn [of lkin], or omitted [altogether] with the nn assimilated with the like of it) He [is] (huwa, this is the pronoun of the [subject] matter [to be stated] and is clarified by the sentence that follows it; the meaning [in other words] is `[But, it is that] I say that [He is]') God, my Lord, and I do not ascribe any partner to my Lord.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

لَّكِنَّا هُوَ اللَّهُ رَبِّي

But as for my part, (I believe) that He is Allah, my Lord,

meaning, `I do not say what you say; rather I acknowledge the Oneness and Lordship of Allah,'

وَلَا أُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّي أَحَدًا



and none shall I associate as partner with my Lord.

meaning, He is Allah, the One Who is to be worshipped Alone, with no partner or associate.

Then he said;

وَلَوْلَا إِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَاء اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ إِن تُرَنِ أَنَا أَقَلَّ مِنكَ مَالاً وَوَلَدًا
