فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا مَجْمَعَ بَيْنِهِمَا نَسِيَا حُوْتَهُمَا فَاتَّخَذَ سَبِيْلَهٗ فِى الْبَحْرِ سَرَبًا ٦١
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- But when
- balaghā
- بَلَغَا
- they reached
- majmaʿa
- مَجْمَعَ
- the junction
- baynihimā
- بَيْنِهِمَا
- between them
- nasiyā
- نَسِيَا
- they forgot
- ḥūtahumā
- حُوتَهُمَا
- their fish
- fa-ittakhadha
- فَٱتَّخَذَ
- and it took
- sabīlahu
- سَبِيلَهُۥ
- its way
- fī
- فِى
- into
- l-baḥri
- ٱلْبَحْرِ
- the sea
- saraban
- سَرَبًا
- slipping away
But when they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it took its course into the sea, slipping away. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 61)Tafsir
فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَا قَالَ لِفَتٰىهُ اٰتِنَا غَدَاۤءَنَاۖ لَقَدْ لَقِيْنَا مِنْ سَفَرِنَا هٰذَا نَصَبًا ٦٢
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- Then when
- jāwazā
- جَاوَزَا
- they had passed beyond
- qāla
- قَالَ
- he said
- lifatāhu
- لِفَتَىٰهُ
- to his boy
- ātinā
- ءَاتِنَا
- "Bring us
- ghadāanā
- غَدَآءَنَا
- our morning meal
- laqad
- لَقَدْ
- Certainly
- laqīnā
- لَقِينَا
- we have suffered
- min
- مِن
- in
- safarinā
- سَفَرِنَا
- our journey
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- this
- naṣaban
- نَصَبًا
- fatigue"
So when they had passed beyond it, [Moses] said to his boy, "Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 62)Tafsir
قَالَ اَرَاَيْتَ اِذْ اَوَيْنَآ اِلَى الصَّخْرَةِ فَاِنِّيْ نَسِيْتُ الْحُوْتَۖ وَمَآ اَنْسٰىنِيْهُ اِلَّا الشَّيْطٰنُ اَنْ اَذْكُرَهٗۚ وَاتَّخَذَ سَبِيْلَهٗ فِى الْبَحْرِ عَجَبًا ٦٣
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- ara-ayta
- أَرَءَيْتَ
- "Did you see
- idh
- إِذْ
- when
- awaynā
- أَوَيْنَآ
- we retired
- ilā
- إِلَى
- to
- l-ṣakhrati
- ٱلصَّخْرَةِ
- the rock?
- fa-innī
- فَإِنِّى
- Then indeed I
- nasītu
- نَسِيتُ
- [I] forgot
- l-ḥūta
- ٱلْحُوتَ
- the fish
- wamā
- وَمَآ
- And not
- ansānīhu
- أَنسَىٰنِيهُ
- made me forget it
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- l-shayṭānu
- ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ
- the Shaitaan
- an
- أَنْ
- that
- adhkurahu
- أَذْكُرَهُۥۚ
- I mention it
- wa-ittakhadha
- وَٱتَّخَذَ
- And it took
- sabīlahu
- سَبِيلَهُۥ
- its way
- fī
- فِى
- into
- l-baḥri
- ٱلْبَحْرِ
- the sea
- ʿajaban
- عَجَبًا
- amazingly"
He said, "Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan – that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 63)Tafsir
قَالَ ذٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبْغِۖ فَارْتَدَّا عَلٰٓى اٰثَارِهِمَا قَصَصًاۙ ٦٤
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- "That
- mā
- مَا
- (is) what
- kunnā
- كُنَّا
- we were
- nabghi
- نَبْغِۚ
- seeking"
- fa-ir'taddā
- فَٱرْتَدَّا
- So they returned
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰٓ
- on
- āthārihimā
- ءَاثَارِهِمَا
- their footprints
- qaṣaṣan
- قَصَصًا
- retracing
[Moses] said, "That is what we were seeking." So they returned, following their footprints. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 64)Tafsir
فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِّنْ عِبَادِنَآ اٰتَيْنٰهُ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِنْدِنَا وَعَلَّمْنٰهُ مِنْ لَّدُنَّا عِلْمًا ٦٥
- fawajadā
- فَوَجَدَا
- Then they found
- ʿabdan
- عَبْدًا
- a servant
- min
- مِّنْ
- from
- ʿibādinā
- عِبَادِنَآ
- Our servants
- ātaynāhu
- ءَاتَيْنَٰهُ
- whom We had given
- raḥmatan
- رَحْمَةً
- mercy
- min
- مِّنْ
- from
- ʿindinā
- عِندِنَا
- Us
- waʿallamnāhu
- وَعَلَّمْنَٰهُ
- and We had taught him
- min
- مِن
- from
- ladunnā
- لَّدُنَّا
- Us
- ʿil'man
- عِلْمًا
- a knowledge
And they found a servant from among Our servants [i.e., al-Khidhr] to whom We had given mercy from Us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 65)Tafsir
قَالَ لَهٗ مُوسٰى هَلْ اَتَّبِعُكَ عَلٰٓى اَنْ تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمْتَ رُشْدًا ٦٦
- qāla
- قَالَ
- Said
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- to him
- mūsā
- مُوسَىٰ
- Musa
- hal
- هَلْ
- "May
- attabiʿuka
- أَتَّبِعُكَ
- I follow you
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰٓ
- on
- an
- أَن
- that
- tuʿallimani
- تُعَلِّمَنِ
- you teach me
- mimmā
- مِمَّا
- of what
- ʿullim'ta
- عُلِّمْتَ
- you have been taught
- rush'dan
- رُشْدًا
- (of) right guidance?"
Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?" (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 66)Tafsir
قَالَ اِنَّكَ لَنْ تَسْتَطِيْعَ مَعِيَ صَبْرًا ٦٧
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- innaka
- إِنَّكَ
- "Indeed you
- lan
- لَن
- never
- tastaṭīʿa
- تَسْتَطِيعَ
- will be able
- maʿiya
- مَعِىَ
- with me
- ṣabran
- صَبْرًا
- (to have) patience
He said, "Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 67)Tafsir
وَكَيْفَ تَصْبِرُ عَلٰى مَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهٖ خُبْرًا ٦٨
- wakayfa
- وَكَيْفَ
- And how can
- taṣbiru
- تَصْبِرُ
- you have patience
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- for
- mā
- مَا
- what
- lam
- لَمْ
- not
- tuḥiṭ
- تُحِطْ
- you encompass
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- of it
- khub'ran
- خُبْرًا
- any knowledge"
And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?" (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 68)Tafsir
قَالَ سَتَجِدُنِيْٓ اِنْ شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ صَابِرًا وَّلَآ اَعْصِيْ لَكَ اَمْرًا ٦٩
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- satajidunī
- سَتَجِدُنِىٓ
- "You will find me
- in
- إِن
- if
- shāa
- شَآءَ
- Allah wills
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah wills
- ṣābiran
- صَابِرًا
- patient
- walā
- وَلَآ
- and not
- aʿṣī
- أَعْصِى
- I will disobey
- laka
- لَكَ
- your
- amran
- أَمْرًا
- order"
[Moses] said, "You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 69)Tafsir
قَالَ فَاِنِ اتَّبَعْتَنِيْ فَلَا تَسْـَٔلْنِيْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ حَتّٰٓى اُحْدِثَ لَكَ مِنْهُ ذِكْرًا ࣖ ٧٠
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- fa-ini
- فَإِنِ
- "Then if
- ittabaʿtanī
- ٱتَّبَعْتَنِى
- you follow me
- falā
- فَلَا
- (do) not
- tasalnī
- تَسْـَٔلْنِى
- ask me
- ʿan
- عَن
- about
- shayin
- شَىْءٍ
- anything
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰٓ
- until
- uḥ'ditha
- أُحْدِثَ
- I present
- laka
- لَكَ
- to you
- min'hu
- مِنْهُ
- of it
- dhik'ran
- ذِكْرًا
- a mention"
He said, "Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention [i.e., explanation]." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 70)Tafsir
