(The Cave)

31

اُولٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمْ جَنّٰتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهِمُ الْاَنْهٰرُ يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيْهَا مِنْ اَسَاوِرَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَّيَلْبَسُوْنَ ثِيَابًا خُضْرًا مِّنْ سُنْدُسٍ وَّاِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَّكِىِٕيْنَ فِيْهَا عَلَى الْاَرَاۤىِٕكِۗ نِعْمَ الثَّوَابُۗ وَحَسُنَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا ٣١

ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
lahum
لَهُمْ
for them
jannātu
جَنَّٰتُ
(are) Gardens
ʿadnin
عَدْنٍ
of Eden
tajrī
تَجْرِى
flows
min
مِن
from
taḥtihimu
تَحْتِهِمُ
underneath them
l-anhāru
ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ
the rivers
yuḥallawna
يُحَلَّوْنَ
They will be adorned
fīhā
فِيهَا
therein
min
مِنْ
[of] (with)
asāwira
أَسَاوِرَ
bracelets
min
مِن
of
dhahabin
ذَهَبٍ
gold
wayalbasūna
وَيَلْبَسُونَ
and will wear
thiyāban
ثِيَابًا
garments
khuḍ'ran
خُضْرًا
green
min
مِّن
of
sundusin
سُندُسٍ
fine silk
wa-is'tabraqin
وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ
and heavy brocade
muttakiīna
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ
reclining
fīhā
فِيهَا
therein
ʿalā
عَلَى
on
l-arāiki
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِۚ
adorned couches
niʿ'ma
نِعْمَ
Excellent
l-thawābu
ٱلثَّوَابُ
(is) the reward
waḥasunat
وَحَسُنَتْ
and good
mur'tafaqan
مُرْتَفَقًا
(is) the resting place
Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 31)
Tafsir
32

۞ وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَّثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ جَعَلْنَا لِاَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيْنِ مِنْ اَعْنَابٍ وَّحَفَفْنٰهُمَا بِنَخْلٍ وَّجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمَا زَرْعًاۗ ٣٢

wa-iḍ'rib
وَٱضْرِبْ
And set forth
lahum
لَهُم
to them
mathalan
مَّثَلًا
the example
rajulayni
رَّجُلَيْنِ
of two men:
jaʿalnā
جَعَلْنَا
We provided
li-aḥadihimā
لِأَحَدِهِمَا
for one of them
jannatayni
جَنَّتَيْنِ
two gardens
min
مِنْ
of
aʿnābin
أَعْنَٰبٍ
grapes
waḥafafnāhumā
وَحَفَفْنَٰهُمَا
and We bordered them
binakhlin
بِنَخْلٍ
with date-palms
wajaʿalnā
وَجَعَلْنَا
and We placed
baynahumā
بَيْنَهُمَا
between both of them
zarʿan
زَرْعًا
crops
And present to them an example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines, and We bordered them with palm trees and placed between them [fields of] crops. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 32)
Tafsir
33

كِلْتَا الْجَنَّتَيْنِ اٰتَتْ اُكُلَهَا وَلَمْ تَظْلِمْ مِّنْهُ شَيْـًٔاۙ وَّفَجَّرْنَا خِلٰلَهُمَا نَهَرًاۙ ٣٣

kil'tā
كِلْتَا
Each
l-janatayni
ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ
(of) the two gardens
ātat
ءَاتَتْ
brought forth
ukulahā
أُكُلَهَا
its produce
walam
وَلَمْ
and not
taẓlim
تَظْلِم
did wrong
min'hu
مِّنْهُ
of it
shayan
شَيْـًٔاۚ
anything
wafajjarnā
وَفَجَّرْنَا
And We caused to gush forth
khilālahumā
خِلَٰلَهُمَا
within them
naharan
نَهَرًا
a river
Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything. And We caused to gush forth within them a river. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 33)
Tafsir
34

وَّكَانَ لَهٗ ثَمَرٌۚ فَقَالَ لِصَاحِبِهٖ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهٗٓ اَنَا۠ اَكْثَرُ مِنْكَ مَالًا وَّاَعَزُّ نَفَرًا ٣٤

وَكَانَ
And was
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
thamarun
ثَمَرٌ
fruit
faqāla
فَقَالَ
so he said
liṣāḥibihi
لِصَٰحِبِهِۦ
to his companion
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
while he
yuḥāwiruhu
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ
(was) talking with him
anā
أَنَا۠
"I am
aktharu
أَكْثَرُ
greater
minka
مِنكَ
than you
mālan
مَالًا
(in) wealth
wa-aʿazzu
وَأَعَزُّ
and stronger
nafaran
نَفَرًا
(in) men"
And he had fruit, so he said to his companion while he was conversing with him, "I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in [numbers of] men." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 34)
Tafsir
35

وَدَخَلَ جَنَّتَهٗ وَهُوَ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهٖۚ قَالَ مَآ اَظُنُّ اَنْ تَبِيْدَ هٰذِهٖٓ اَبَدًاۙ ٣٥

wadakhala
وَدَخَلَ
And he entered
jannatahu
جَنَّتَهُۥ
his garden
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
while he
ẓālimun
ظَالِمٌ
(was) unjust
linafsihi
لِّنَفْسِهِۦ
to himself
qāla
قَالَ
He said
مَآ
"Not
aẓunnu
أَظُنُّ
I think
an
أَن
that
tabīda
تَبِيدَ
will perish
hādhihi
هَٰذِهِۦٓ
this
abadan
أَبَدًا
ever
And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said, "I do not think that this will perish – ever. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 35)
Tafsir
36

وَّمَآ اَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَاۤىِٕمَةً وَّلَىِٕنْ رُّدِدْتُّ اِلٰى رَبِّيْ لَاَجِدَنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهَا مُنْقَلَبًا ٣٦

wamā
وَمَآ
And not
aẓunnu
أَظُنُّ
I think
l-sāʿata
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
the Hour
qāimatan
قَآئِمَةً
will occur
wala-in
وَلَئِن
And if
rudidttu
رُّدِدتُّ
I am brought back
ilā
إِلَىٰ
to
rabbī
رَبِّى
my Lord
la-ajidanna
لَأَجِدَنَّ
I will surely find
khayran
خَيْرًا
better
min'hā
مِّنْهَا
than this
munqalaban
مُنقَلَبًا
(as) a return"
And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 36)
Tafsir
37

قَالَ لَهٗ صَاحِبُهٗ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهٗٓ اَكَفَرْتَ بِالَّذِيْ خَلَقَكَ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ نُّطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ سَوّٰىكَ رَجُلًاۗ ٣٧

ṣāḥibuhu
صَاحِبُهُۥ
his companion
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
while he
yuḥāwiruhu
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ
was talking to him
akafarta
أَكَفَرْتَ
"Do you disbelieve
bi-alladhī
بِٱلَّذِى
in One Who
khalaqaka
خَلَقَكَ
created you
min
مِن
from
turābin
تُرَابٍ
dust
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
min
مِن
from
nuṭ'fatin
نُّطْفَةٍ
a minute quantity of semen
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
sawwāka
سَوَّىٰكَ
fashioned you
rajulan
رَجُلًا
(into) a man?
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, "Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man? (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 37)
Tafsir
38

لٰكِنَّا۠ هُوَ اللّٰهُ رَبِّيْ وَلَآ اُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّيْٓ اَحَدًا ٣٨

lākinnā
لَّٰكِنَّا۠
But as for me
huwa
هُوَ
He
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(is) Allah
rabbī
رَبِّى
my Lord
walā
وَلَآ
and not
ush'riku
أُشْرِكُ
I associate
birabbī
بِرَبِّىٓ
with my Lord
aḥadan
أَحَدًا
anyone
But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 38)
Tafsir
39

وَلَوْلَآ اِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ ۙ لَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ ۚاِنْ تَرَنِ اَنَا۠ اَقَلَّ مِنْكَ مَالًا وَّوَلَدًاۚ ٣٩

walawlā
وَلَوْلَآ
And why (did you) not

إِذْ
when
dakhalta
دَخَلْتَ
you entered
jannataka
جَنَّتَكَ
your garden
qul'ta
قُلْتَ
say
مَا
"What
shāa
شَآءَ
wills
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
لَا
(there is) no
quwwata
قُوَّةَ
power
illā
إِلَّا
except
bil-lahi
بِٱللَّهِۚ
with Allah"
in
إِن
If
tarani
تَرَنِ
you see
anā
أَنَا۠
me
aqalla
أَقَلَّ
lesser
minka
مِنكَ
than you
mālan
مَالًا
(in) wealth
wawaladan
وَوَلَدًا
and children
And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah'? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children, (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 39)
Tafsir
40

فَعَسٰى رَبِّيْٓ اَنْ يُّؤْتِيَنِ خَيْرًا مِّنْ جَنَّتِكَ وَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهَا حُسْبَانًا مِّنَ السَّمَاۤءِ فَتُصْبِحَ صَعِيْدًا زَلَقًاۙ ٤٠

faʿasā
فَعَسَىٰ
It may be
rabbī
رَبِّىٓ
that my Lord
an
أَن
that my Lord
yu'tiyani
يُؤْتِيَنِ
will give me
khayran
خَيْرًا
better
min
مِّن
than
jannatika
جَنَّتِكَ
your garden
wayur'sila
وَيُرْسِلَ
and will send
ʿalayhā
عَلَيْهَا
upon it
ḥus'bānan
حُسْبَانًا
a calamity
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-samāi
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
the sky
fatuṣ'biḥa
فَتُصْبِحَ
then it will become
ṣaʿīdan
صَعِيدًا
ground
zalaqan
زَلَقًا
slippery
It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a [disastrous] penalty from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground, (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 40)
Tafsir
