(The Cave)

21

وَكَذٰلِكَ اَعْثَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ لِيَعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّ وَعْدَ اللّٰهِ حَقٌّ وَّاَنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَا رَيْبَ فِيْهَاۚ اِذْ يَتَنَازَعُوْنَ بَيْنَهُمْ اَمْرَهُمْ فَقَالُوا ابْنُوْا عَلَيْهِمْ بُنْيَانًاۗ رَبُّهُمْ اَعْلَمُ بِهِمْۗ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ غَلَبُوْا عَلٰٓى اَمْرِهِمْ لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ مَّسْجِدًا ٢١

wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And similarly
aʿtharnā
أَعْثَرْنَا
We made known
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
about them
liyaʿlamū
لِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟
that they might know
anna
أَنَّ
that
waʿda
وَعْدَ
(the) Promise
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ḥaqqun
حَقٌّ
(is) true
wa-anna
وَأَنَّ
and that
l-sāʿata
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
(about) the Hour
لَا
(there is) no
rayba
رَيْبَ
doubt
fīhā
فِيهَآ
in it
idh
إِذْ
When
yatanāzaʿūna
يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ
they disputed
baynahum
بَيْنَهُمْ
among themselves
amrahum
أَمْرَهُمْۖ
about their affair
faqālū
فَقَالُوا۟
and they said
ib'nū
ٱبْنُوا۟
"Construct
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِم
over them
bun'yānan
بُنْيَٰنًاۖ
a structure
rabbuhum
رَّبُّهُمْ
Their Lord
aʿlamu
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
bihim
بِهِمْۚ
about them"
qāla
قَالَ
Said
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ghalabū
غَلَبُوا۟
prevailed
ʿalā
عَلَىٰٓ
in
amrihim
أَمْرِهِمْ
their matter
lanattakhidhanna
لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ
"Surely we will take
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِم
over them
masjidan
مَّسْجِدًا
a place of worship"
And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allah is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, "Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them." Said those who prevailed in the matter, "We will surely take [for ourselves] over them a masjid." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 21)
Tafsir
22

سَيَقُوْلُوْنَ ثَلٰثَةٌ رَّابِعُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْۚ وَيَقُوْلُوْنَ خَمْسَةٌ سَادِسُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ رَجْمًاۢ بِالْغَيْبِۚ وَيَقُوْلُوْنَ سَبْعَةٌ وَّثَامِنُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ ۗقُلْ رَّبِّيْٓ اَعْلَمُ بِعِدَّتِهِمْ مَّا يَعْلَمُهُمْ اِلَّا قَلِيْلٌ ەۗ فَلَا تُمَارِ فِيْهِمْ اِلَّا مِرَاۤءً ظَاهِرًا ۖوَّلَا تَسْتَفْتِ فِيْهِمْ مِّنْهُمْ اَحَدًا ࣖ ٢٢

sayaqūlūna
سَيَقُولُونَ
They say
thalāthatun
ثَلَٰثَةٌ
(they were) three
rābiʿuhum
رَّابِعُهُمْ
the forth of them
kalbuhum
كَلْبُهُمْ
their dog;
wayaqūlūna
وَيَقُولُونَ
and they say
khamsatun
خَمْسَةٌ
(they were) five
sādisuhum
سَادِسُهُمْ
the sixth of them
kalbuhum
كَلْبُهُمْ
their dog -
rajman
رَجْمًۢا
guessing
bil-ghaybi
بِٱلْغَيْبِۖ
about the unseen;
wayaqūlūna
وَيَقُولُونَ
and they say
sabʿatun
سَبْعَةٌ
(they were) seven
wathāminuhum
وَثَامِنُهُمْ
and the eight of them
kalbuhum
كَلْبُهُمْۚ
their dog
qul
قُل
Say
rabbī
رَّبِّىٓ
"My Lord
aʿlamu
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
biʿiddatihim
بِعِدَّتِهِم
their number
مَّا
None
yaʿlamuhum
يَعْلَمُهُمْ
knows them
illā
إِلَّا
except
qalīlun
قَلِيلٌۗ
a few
falā
فَلَا
So (do) not
tumāri
تُمَارِ
argue
fīhim
فِيهِمْ
about them
illā
إِلَّا
except
mirāan
مِرَآءً
(with) an argument
ẓāhiran
ظَٰهِرًا
obvious
walā
وَلَا
and (do) not
tastafti
تَسْتَفْتِ
inquire
fīhim
فِيهِم
about them
min'hum
مِّنْهُمْ
among them
aḥadan
أَحَدًا
(from) anyone"
They [i.e., people] will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog – guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 22)
Tafsir
23

وَلَا تَقُوْلَنَّ لِشَا۟يْءٍ اِنِّيْ فَاعِلٌ ذٰلِكَ غَدًاۙ ٢٣

walā
وَلَا
And (do) not
taqūlanna
تَقُولَنَّ
say
lishāy'in
لِشَا۟ىْءٍ
of anything
innī
إِنِّى
"Indeed I
fāʿilun
فَاعِلٌ
will do
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
ghadan
غَدًا
tomorrow"
And never say of anything, "Indeed, I will do that tomorrow," (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 23)
Tafsir
24

اِلَّآ اَنْ يَّشَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ ۖوَاذْكُرْ رَّبَّكَ اِذَا نَسِيْتَ وَقُلْ عَسٰٓى اَنْ يَّهْدِيَنِ رَبِّيْ لِاَقْرَبَ مِنْ هٰذَا رَشَدًا ٢٤

illā
إِلَّآ
Except
an
أَن
"If
yashāa
يَشَآءَ
Allah wills"
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُۚ
Allah wills"
wa-udh'kur
وَٱذْكُر
And remember
rabbaka
رَّبَّكَ
your Lord
idhā
إِذَا
when
nasīta
نَسِيتَ
you forget
waqul
وَقُلْ
and say
ʿasā
عَسَىٰٓ
"Perhaps
an
أَن
[that]
yahdiyani
يَهْدِيَنِ
will guide me
rabbī
رَبِّى
my Lord
li-aqraba
لِأَقْرَبَ
to a nearer (way)
min
مِنْ
than
hādhā
هَٰذَا
this
rashadan
رَشَدًا
right way"
Except [when adding], "If Allah wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 24)
Tafsir
25

وَلَبِثُوْا فِيْ كَهْفِهِمْ ثَلٰثَ مِائَةٍ سِنِيْنَ وَازْدَادُوْا تِسْعًا ٢٥

walabithū
وَلَبِثُوا۟
And they remained
فِى
in
kahfihim
كَهْفِهِمْ
their cave
thalātha
ثَلَٰثَ
(for) three
mi-atin
مِا۟ئَةٍ
hundred
sinīna
سِنِينَ
years
wa-iz'dādū
وَٱزْدَادُوا۟
and add
tis'ʿan
تِسْعًا
nine
And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 25)
Tafsir
26

قُلِ اللّٰهُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُوْا ۚ لَهٗ غَيْبُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِۗ اَبْصِرْ بِهٖ وَاَسْمِعْۗ مَا لَهُمْ مِّنْ دُوْنِهٖ مِنْ وَّلِيٍّۗ وَلَا يُشْرِكُ فِيْ حُكْمِهٖٓ اَحَدًا ٢٦

quli
قُلِ
Say
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
"Allah
aʿlamu
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
bimā
بِمَا
about what (period)
labithū
لَبِثُوا۟ۖ
they remained
lahu
لَهُۥ
For Him
ghaybu
غَيْبُ
(is the) unseen
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
(of) the heavens
wal-arḍi
وَٱلْأَرْضِۖ
and the earth
abṣir
أَبْصِرْ
How clearly He sees!
bihi
بِهِۦ
[of it]
wa-asmiʿ
وَأَسْمِعْۚ
And how clearly He hears!
مَا
Not
lahum
لَهُم
for them
min
مِّن
besides Him
dūnihi
دُونِهِۦ
besides Him
min
مِن
any
waliyyin
وَلِىٍّ
protector
walā
وَلَا
and not
yush'riku
يُشْرِكُ
He shares
فِى
[in]
ḥuk'mihi
حُكْمِهِۦٓ
His Commands
aḥadan
أَحَدًا
(with) anyone"
Say, "Allah is most knowing of how long they remained. He has [knowledge of] the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. How Seeing is He and how Hearing! They have not besides Him any protector, and He shares not His legislation with anyone." (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 26)
Tafsir
27

وَاتْلُ مَآ اُوْحِيَ اِلَيْكَ مِنْ كِتَابِ رَبِّكَۗ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمٰتِهٖۗ وَلَنْ تَجِدَ مِنْ دُوْنِهٖ مُلْتَحَدًا ٢٧

wa-ut'lu
وَٱتْلُ
And recite
مَآ
what
ūḥiya
أُوحِىَ
has been revealed
ilayka
إِلَيْكَ
to you
min
مِن
of
kitābi
كِتَابِ
the Book
rabbika
رَبِّكَۖ
(of) your Lord
لَا
None
mubaddila
مُبَدِّلَ
can change
likalimātihi
لِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦ
His Words
walan
وَلَن
and never
tajida
تَجِدَ
you will find
min
مِن
besides Him
dūnihi
دُونِهِۦ
besides Him
mul'taḥadan
مُلْتَحَدًا
a refuge
And recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 27)
Tafsir
28

وَاصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِيْنَ يَدْعُوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَدٰوةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ يُرِيْدُوْنَ وَجْهَهٗ وَلَا تَعْدُ عَيْنٰكَ عَنْهُمْۚ تُرِيْدُ زِيْنَةَ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَاۚ وَلَا تُطِعْ مَنْ اَغْفَلْنَا قَلْبَهٗ عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوٰىهُ وَكَانَ اَمْرُهٗ فُرُطًا ٢٨

wa-iṣ'bir
وَٱصْبِرْ
And be patient
nafsaka
نَفْسَكَ
yourself
maʿa
مَعَ
with
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
yadʿūna
يَدْعُونَ
call
rabbahum
رَبَّهُم
their Lord
bil-ghadati
بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ
in the morning
wal-ʿashiyi
وَٱلْعَشِىِّ
and the evening
yurīdūna
يُرِيدُونَ
desiring
wajhahu
وَجْهَهُۥۖ
His Face
walā
وَلَا
And (let) not
taʿdu
تَعْدُ
pass beyond
ʿaynāka
عَيْنَاكَ
your eyes
ʿanhum
عَنْهُمْ
over them
turīdu
تُرِيدُ
desiring
zīnata
زِينَةَ
adornment
l-ḥayati
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
(of) the life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَاۖ
(of) the world
walā
وَلَا
and (do) not
tuṭiʿ
تُطِعْ
obey
man
مَنْ
whom
aghfalnā
أَغْفَلْنَا
We Have Made Heedless
qalbahu
قَلْبَهُۥ
his heart
ʿan
عَن
of
dhik'rinā
ذِكْرِنَا
Our rememberance
wa-ittabaʿa
وَٱتَّبَعَ
and follows
hawāhu
هَوَىٰهُ
his desires
wakāna
وَكَانَ
and is
amruhu
أَمْرُهُۥ
his affair
furuṭan
فُرُطًا
(in) excess
And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His face [i.e., acceptance]. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 28)
Tafsir
29

وَقُلِ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَّبِّكُمْۗ فَمَنْ شَاۤءَ فَلْيُؤْمِنْ وَّمَنْ شَاۤءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْۚ اِنَّآ اَعْتَدْنَا لِلظّٰلِمِيْنَ نَارًاۙ اَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَاۗ وَاِنْ يَّسْتَغِيْثُوْا يُغَاثُوْا بِمَاۤءٍ كَالْمُهْلِ يَشْوِى الْوُجُوْهَۗ بِئْسَ الشَّرَابُۗ وَسَاۤءَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا ٢٩

وَقُلِ
And say
l-ḥaqu
ٱلْحَقُّ
"The truth
min
مِن
(is) from
rabbikum
رَّبِّكُمْۖ
your Lord
faman
فَمَن
so whoever
shāa
شَآءَ
wills -
falyu'min
فَلْيُؤْمِن
let him believe
waman
وَمَن
and whoever
shāa
شَآءَ
wills -
falyakfur
فَلْيَكْفُرْۚ
let him disbelieve"
innā
إِنَّآ
Indeed We
aʿtadnā
أَعْتَدْنَا
have prepared
lilẓẓālimīna
لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ
for the wrongdoers
nāran
نَارًا
a Fire
aḥāṭa
أَحَاطَ
will surround
bihim
بِهِمْ
them
surādiquhā
سُرَادِقُهَاۚ
its walls
wa-in
وَإِن
And if
yastaghīthū
يَسْتَغِيثُوا۟
they call for relief
yughāthū
يُغَاثُوا۟
they will be relieved
bimāin
بِمَآءٍ
with water
kal-muh'li
كَٱلْمُهْلِ
like molten brass
yashwī
يَشْوِى
(which) scalds
l-wujūha
ٱلْوُجُوهَۚ
the faces
bi'sa
بِئْسَ
Wretched
l-sharābu
ٱلشَّرَابُ
(is) the drink
wasāat
وَسَآءَتْ
and evil
mur'tafaqan
مُرْتَفَقًا
(is) the resting place
And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe; and whoever wills – let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 29)
Tafsir
30

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ اِنَّا لَا نُضِيْعُ اَجْرَ مَنْ اَحْسَنَ عَمَلًاۚ ٣٠

inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believed
waʿamilū
وَعَمِلُوا۟
and did
l-ṣāliḥāti
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
the good deeds
innā
إِنَّا
indeed, We
لَا
will not let go waste
nuḍīʿu
نُضِيعُ
will not let go waste
ajra
أَجْرَ
(the) reward
man
مَنْ
(of one) who
aḥsana
أَحْسَنَ
does good
ʿamalan
عَمَلًا
deeds
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of any who did well in deeds. (QS. [18] Al-Kahf: 30)
