Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Isra Verse 42
Al-Isra [17]: 42 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
قُلْ لَّوْ كَانَ مَعَهٗ ٓ اٰلِهَةٌ كَمَا يَقُوْلُوْنَ اِذًا لَّابْتَغَوْا اِلٰى ذِى الْعَرْشِ سَبِيْلًا (الإسراء : ١٧)

Transliteration:
Qul law kaana ma'ahooo aalihatun kamaa yaqooloona izal labtaghaw ilaa zil 'Arshi Sabeela(QS. al-ʾIsrāʾ:42)
English / Sahih Translation:
Say, [O Muhammad], "If there had been with Him [other] gods, as they say, then they [each] would have sought to the Owner of the Throne a way." (QS. Al-Isra, ayah 42)
Mufti Taqi Usmani
Say, “Had there been other gods along with Him”, as they say, “then they would have found out a way to the Lord of the Throne”.

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Had there been other gods besides Him—as they claim—then they would have certainly sought a way to ˹challenge˺ the Lord of the Throne.”

Say, ‘Were there [other] gods besides Him, as they say, they would surely have encroached on the Lord of the Throne.

Say: "If there were, as they assert, deities apart from Him, surely they would seek a way to the Master of the Supreme Throne (the dominion of the creation)."

Say, `Had there been other gods as they allege beside Him (- the One God), in that case these (polytheists) would have certainly sought out (by their help) a way to the Lord of the Mighty throne.
English Literal
Say: "If there were/are gods with Him as/like they say, then they would have wished/desired a way/path to (the owner) of the throne ."

Say (O Muhammad SAW to these polytheists, pagans, etc.): "If there had been other aliha (gods) along with Him as they assert, then they would certainly have sought out a way to the Lord of the Throne (seeking His Pleasures and to be near to Him).

And certainly We have repeated (warnings) in this Qur’an that they may be mindful. And it adds not save to their aversion.

Tafsir jalalayn
Say, to them; `If there were with Him, that is, with God, [other] gods, as they say, they would, in that case, have sought against the Lord of the Throne, that is, [against] God, some path, some way, in order to fight Him [off].
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
Allah says;
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ مَعَهُ الِهَةٌ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذًا لاَّبْتَغَوْاْ إِلَى ذِي الْعَرْشِ سَبِيلً
Say;"If there had been other gods along with Him as they assert, then they would certainly have sought out a way to the Lord of the Throne.
`Say, O Muhammad, to these idolators who claim that Allah has a partner among His creation, and who worship others besides Him that they may bring them nearer to Him;if the matter is as you say, and there is another god besides Him whom you worship in order to draw closer to Him and so that he will intercede for you with Him, then those whom you worship would themselves worship Him and seek means to draw closer to Him. So worship Him alone, just as those on whom you call besides Him worship Him. You have no need of a deity to be an intermediary between you and Him, for He does not like or accept that, rather He hates it and rejects it, and has forbidden that through all of His Messengers and Prophets.'
Then He glorifies and sanctifies Himself far above all that, and says
