Al-Isra [17]: 30 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَّشَاۤءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۗاِنَّهٗ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهٖ خَبِيْرًاۢ بَصِيْرًا ࣖ (الإسراء : ١٧)

Transliteration:

Inna Rabbaka yabsuturrizqa limai yashaaa'u wa yaqdir; innahoo kaana bi'ibaadihee Khabeeram Baseera (QS. al-ʾIsrāʾ:30)

English / Sahih Translation:

Indeed, your Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is ever, concerning His servants, Aware and Seeing. (QS. Al-Isra, ayah 30)

Indeed, your Lord expands sustenance for whomsoever He wills, and constricts (for whomsoever He wills). Surely, He is All-Aware of His servants, All-Seeing.

Surely your Lord gives abundant or limited provisions to whoever He wills. He is certainly All-Aware, All-Seeing of His servants.

Certainly Your Lord makes plentiful the provision of whomsoever He wills and straitens it for whomsoever He wills. He is well-aware and is fully observant of all that relates to His servants.

Certainly your Lord provides with open hands whosoever He will, but according to capacity, for He knows and watches His creatures.

Surely, your Lord multiplies His provisions and means of livelihood for such of His people as He will and He measures it out (justly), for He is Well-Aware and Seeing of (the true needs of) His people inside out.

English Literal

That your Lord spreads/extends the provision to whom He wills/wants, and He is capable/able , that He truly was with His worshippers/slaves an expert/experienced, seeing/knowing/understanding.

Your Lord gives abundantly to whom He will and sparingly to whom He pleases. He is informed and observant about His servants.

Your Lord expands the provision for whomever He wills, and restricts it. He is fully Informed, Observant of His servants.

Tafsir jalalayn

Truly your Lord expands provision, He makes it abundant, for whomever He will and He straitens, He restricts it for whomever He will. Indeed He is ever Aware and Seer of His servants, Knower of what they hide and what they manifest, giving them provision in accordance with their welfare.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَاء وَيَقْدِرُ

Truly, your Lord expands the provision for whom He wills and straitens (for whom He wills).

This Ayah is telling us that Allah is the One Who provides or withholds, the Bestower Who is running the affairs of His creation as He wills. He makes rich whomever He wills, and He makes poor whomever He wills, by the wisdom that is His.

He said;

إِنَّهُ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِ خَبِيرًا بَصِيرًا



Verily, He is Ever All-Knower, All-Seer of His servants.

meaning, He knows and sees who deserves to be rich and who deserves to be poor.

In some cases, richness may be decreed so that a person gets carried away, leading to his own doom.

In other cases, poverty may be a punishment.
