Al-Qur'an Surah An-Nahl Verse 64

An-Nahl [16]: 64 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمَآ اَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتٰبَ اِلَّا لِتُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ الَّذِى اخْتَلَفُوْا فِيْهِۙ وَهُدًى وَّرَحْمَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يُّؤْمِنُوْنَ (النحل : ١٦)

wamā
وَمَآ
And not
anzalnā
أَنزَلْنَا
We revealed
ʿalayka
عَلَيْكَ
to you
l-kitāba
ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
the Book
illā
إِلَّا
except
litubayyina
لِتُبَيِّنَ
that you make clear
lahumu
لَهُمُ
to them
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
that which
ikh'talafū
ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟
they differed
fīhi
فِيهِۙ
in it
wahudan
وَهُدًى
and (as) a guidance
waraḥmatan
وَرَحْمَةً
and mercy
liqawmin
لِّقَوْمٍ
for a people
yu'minūna
يُؤْمِنُونَ
who believe

Transliteration:

Wa maaa anzalnaa 'alaikal Kitaaba illaa litubaiyina lahumul lazikh talafoo feehi wa hudanw wa rahmatal liqawminy yu'minoon (QS. an-Naḥl:64)

English / Sahih Translation:

And We have not revealed to you the Book, [O Muhammad], except for you to make clear to them that wherein they have differed and as guidance and mercy for a people who believe. (QS. An-Nahl, ayah 64)

We have sent down the Book to you, only because you may explain to them what they differed about, and (so that it may be) guidance and mercy for a people who believe.

We have sent to you this perfect Book (for no other purpose) but that you may explain to the people things over which they differ (among themselves), and (that it may serve as) a guidance and a mercy for a people who would believe (in it).

English Literal

And We did not descend on you The Book except to clarify/show/explain to them what they differed/disagreed/disputed in it, and guidance and mercy to a nation believing.

We revealed to you the Scripture only to clarify for them what they differ about, and guidance and mercy for people who believe.

Tafsir jalalayn

And We have not revealed to you, O Muhammad (s), the Book, the Qur'n, except [for the purpose] that you may make clear to them, to mankind, that wherein they differ, in the matter of religion, and as a guidance (wa-hudan is a supplement to wa-li-tubayyina, `and that you may make clear') and as a mercy for a people who believe, in it.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَمَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ إِلاَّ لِتُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ الَّذِي اخْتَلَفُواْ فِيهِ

And We have not revealed the Book to you, except that you may clearly explain to them those things in which they differ,

Allah says to His Messenger that He has revealed the Book to him to explain the truth to mankind in matters which they dispute over. So the Qur'an is a decisive arbitrator for every issue that they argue about.

وَهُدًى

and (as) a guidance,

meaning, for their hearts.

وَرَحْمَةً

and a mercy,

meaning, for the one who adheres to it.

لِّقَوْمٍ يُوْمِنُونَ



for a people who believe
