Al-Qur'an Surah An-Nahl Verse 51

An-Nahl [16]: 51 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

۞ وَقَالَ اللّٰهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوْٓا اِلٰهَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِۚ اِنَّمَا هُوَ اِلٰهٌ وَّاحِدٌ فَاِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُوْنِ (النحل : ١٦)

waqāla
وَقَالَ
And Allah has said
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
And Allah has said
لَا
"(Do) not
tattakhidhū
تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟
take
ilāhayni
إِلَٰهَيْنِ
[two] gods
ith'nayni
ٱثْنَيْنِۖ
two
innamā
إِنَّمَا
only
huwa
هُوَ
He
ilāhun
إِلَٰهٌ
(is) God
wāḥidun
وَٰحِدٌۖ
One
fa-iyyāya
فَإِيَّٰىَ
so Me Alone
fa-ir'habūni
فَٱرْهَبُونِ
you fear [Me]"

Transliteration:

Wa qaalal laahu laa tatta khizooo ilaahainis naini innamaa Huwa Ilaahunw Waahid; fa iyyaaya farhaboon (QS. an-Naḥl:51)

English / Sahih Translation:

And Allah has said, "Do not take for yourselves two deities. He [i.e., Allah] is but one God, so fear only Me." (QS. An-Nahl, ayah 51)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Allah has said, “Do not take two gods. He is but One God. So, Me alone you fear.”

And Allah has said, “Do not take two gods. There is only One God. So be in awe of Me ˹alone˺.”

Allah said, “Do not take two gods. He is only One God, so fear Me alone.”

God says: 'Take not to you two gods. He is only One God; so have awe of Me.'

God said, ‘Do not take two gods’- for He is the One God––‘ I alone am the One that you should hold in awe.’

And Allah hath said: take not two gods; He is only One God so Me alone, Me dread.

Allah has said; "Take not (for worship) two gods; for He is just One Allah; then fear Me (and Me alone)."

Abul Ala Maududi

Allah has commanded: "Do not take two gods; for He is but One God. So fear Me alone."

Ahmed Ali

God says: "Do not take to two gods, for there is only one God. So fear Me."

Ahmed Raza Khan

And Allah has proclaimed, “Do not ascribe two Gods; indeed He is the only One God; therefore fear Me alone.”

Ali Quli Qarai

Allah has said, ‘Do not worship two gods. Indeed He is the One God, so be in awe of Me [alone].’

Ali Ünal

God has said: "Do not take two (or more) deities: He is but One God. So be in awe of Me and Me alone, (and be saved from other fears bringing disgrace upon you)."

Amatul Rahman Omar

Allâh has said, `Take not to you two gods (to worship) He is the only One God. Therefore stand in awe of Me and (I repeat) Me alone.

English Literal

And God Said: "Do not take two gods two, but/truly/indeed, He is one God, so (only) Me, so be awed/monkish/monastic of Me .

Faridul Haque

And Allah has proclaimed, "Do not ascribe two Gods; indeed He is the only One God; therefore fear Me alone."

Hamid S. Aziz

And Allah says, "Take not two gods; He is only one God; then fear Me, and Me alone."

Hilali & Khan

And Allah said (O mankind!): "Take not ilahain (two gods in worship, etc.). Verily, He (Allah) is (the) only One Ilah (God). Then, fear Me (Allah) much [and Me (Alone), i.e. be away from all kinds of sins and evil deeds that Allah has forbidden and do all that Allah has ordained and worship none but Allah].

Maulana Mohammad Ali

They fear their Lord above them and do what they are commanded.

And Allah has said: Take not two gods, He is only one Allah; so of Me alone should you be afraid.

Allah hath said: Choose not two gods. There is only One Allah. So of Me, Me only, be in awe.

God says, "Do not worship two gods. There is only One God. Have fear of Me".

Allah says: 'Do not take to yourself two gods. He is only One God; so have awe of Me'

And Allah said "Do not worship two gods. Indeed, He (Allah) is only One God. Then fear Me Alone.

Wahiduddin Khan

God says, "Do not take two gods. He is only One God. So fear Me alone."

Talal Itani

God has said: “Do not take two gods; He is only One God; so fear only Me.”

Tafsir jalalayn

And God has said; `Do not choose two gods (ithnayn is for emphasis). Truly there is only One God -- He has added this [statement] to affirm [His] Divinity and Oneness -- so be in awe of Me [alone]'; fear Me, to the exclusion of anyone else -- herein is a shift from the third person [to the first].

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Allah Alone is Deserving of Worship

Allah tells;

وَقَالَ اللّهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُواْ إِلـهَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَإيَّايَ فَارْهَبُونِ



وَلَهُ مَا فِي الْسَّمَاوَاتِ وَالَارْضِ وَلَهُ الدِّينُ وَاصِبًا أَفَغَيْرَ اللّهِ تَتَّقُونَ
