Al-Qur'an Surah An-Nahl Verse 18

An-Nahl [16]: 18 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاِنْ تَعُدُّوْا نِعْمَةَ اللّٰهِ لَا تُحْصُوْهَا ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَغَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ (النحل : ١٦)

wa-in
وَإِن
And if

you should count
niʿ'mata
نِعْمَةَ
the Favors of Allah
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
the Favors of Allah
لَا
not
tuḥ'ṣūhā
تُحْصُوهَآۗ
you could enumerate them

إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
laghafūrun
لَغَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
raḥīmun
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful

Transliteration:

Wa in ta'uddoo ni'matal laahi laa tuhsoohaa; innal laaha la Ghafoorur Raheem (QS. an-Naḥl:18)

English / Sahih Translation:

And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. An-Nahl, ayah 18)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

If you count the bounties of Allah, you cannot count them all. Surely, Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.

If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

If you count Allâh´s blessings and bounties (upon you, they are so many that) you will never be able to number them. Most surely, Allâh is Great Protector, Ever Merciful.

And if you count God`s blessing/goodness you do not compute it , that God (is) forgiving (E), merciful.

Tafsir jalalayn

And if you were to count God's grace you could never reckon it, number it precisely, let alone be able to give thanks for it. Indeed God is Forgiving, Merciful, since He bestows graces upon you despite your shortcomings and your [acts of] disobedience.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And if you would try to count the favors of Allah, you would never be able to count them. Truly, Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.

meaning that He pardons and forgives them. If He were to ask you to thank Him for all of His blessings, you would not be able to do so, and if He were to command you to do so, you would be incapable of it. If He punishes you, He is never unjust in His punishment, but He is Forgiving and Most Merciful, He forgives much and rewards for little.

Ibn Jarir said;

"It means that Allah is Forgiving when you fail to thank Him properly, if you repent and turn to Him in obedience, and strive to do that which pleases Him. He is Merciful to you and does not punish you if you turn to Him and repent.
