Al-Qur'an Surah An-Nahl Verse 121
An-Nahl [16]: 121 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
شَاكِرًا لِّاَنْعُمِهِ ۖاجْتَبٰىهُ وَهَدٰىهُ اِلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيْمٍ (النحل : ١٦)
- shākiran
- شَاكِرًا
- Thankful
- li-anʿumihi
- لِّأَنْعُمِهِۚ
- for His favors
- ij'tabāhu
- ٱجْتَبَىٰهُ
- He chose him
- wahadāhu
- وَهَدَىٰهُ
- and guided him
- ilā
- إِلَىٰ
- to
- ṣirāṭin
- صِرَٰطٍ
- the way
- mus'taqīmin
- مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
- straight
Transliteration:
Shaakiral li an'umih; ijtabaahu wa hadaahu ilaa Siraatim Muustaqeem(QS. an-Naḥl:121)
English / Sahih Translation:
[He was] grateful for His favors. He [i.e., Allah] chose him and guided him to a straight path. (QS. An-Nahl, ayah 121)

Tafseer Ibn Kathir
شَاكِرًا لاَِّنْعُمِهِ اجْتَبَاهُ
Verily, Ibrahim was (himself) an Ummah, obedient to Allah, a Hanif (monotheist), and he was not one of the idolators.(He was) thankful for His favors. He (Allah) chose him
He selected him, as Allah says;
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَأ إِبْرَهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِ عَـلِمِينَ
And before, We indeed gave Ibrahim his integrity, and We were indeed most knowledgeable about him. (21;51).
Then Allah says;
وَهَدَاهُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
and guided him to a straight path.
which means to worship Allah alone, without partners or associate, in the manner that He prescribed and which pleases Him
