(The Bee)

111

۞ يَوْمَ تَأْتِيْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ تُجَادِلُ عَنْ نَّفْسِهَا وَتُوَفّٰى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا عَمِلَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُوْنَ ١١١

yawma
يَوْمَ
(On) the Day
tatī
تَأْتِى
(when) will come
kullu
كُلُّ
every
nafsin
نَفْسٍ
soul
tujādilu
تُجَٰدِلُ
pleading
ʿan
عَن
for
nafsihā
نَّفْسِهَا
itself
watuwaffā
وَتُوَفَّىٰ
and will be paid in full
kullu
كُلُّ
every
nafsin
نَفْسٍ
soul
مَّا
what
ʿamilat
عَمِلَتْ
it did
wahum
وَهُمْ
and they
لَا
(will) not
yuẓ'lamūna
يُظْلَمُونَ
be wronged
On the Day when every soul will come disputing [i.e., pleading] for itself, and every soul will be fully compensated for what it did, and they will not be wronged [i.e., treated unjustly]. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 111)
Tafsir
112

وَضَرَبَ اللّٰهُ مَثَلًا قَرْيَةً كَانَتْ اٰمِنَةً مُّطْمَىِٕنَّةً يَّأْتِيْهَا رِزْقُهَا رَغَدًا مِّنْ كُلِّ مَكَانٍ فَكَفَرَتْ بِاَنْعُمِ اللّٰهِ فَاَذَاقَهَا اللّٰهُ لِبَاسَ الْجُوْعِ وَالْخَوْفِ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَصْنَعُوْنَ ١١٢

waḍaraba
وَضَرَبَ
And Allah sets forth
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
And Allah sets forth
mathalan
مَثَلًا
a similitude
qaryatan
قَرْيَةً
(of) a town
kānat
كَانَتْ
(that) was
āminatan
ءَامِنَةً
secure
muṭ'ma-innatan
مُّطْمَئِنَّةً
and content
yatīhā
يَأْتِيهَا
coming to it
riz'quhā
رِزْقُهَا
its provision
raghadan
رَغَدًا
(in) abundance
min
مِّن
from
kulli
كُلِّ
every
makānin
مَكَانٍ
place
fakafarat
فَكَفَرَتْ
but it denied
bi-anʿumi
بِأَنْعُمِ
(the) Favors of Allah
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(the) Favors of Allah
fa-adhāqahā
فَأَذَٰقَهَا
so Allah made it taste
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
so Allah made it taste
libāsa
لِبَاسَ
(the) garb
l-jūʿi
ٱلْجُوعِ
(of) the hunger
wal-khawfi
وَٱلْخَوْفِ
and the fear
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used (to)
yaṣnaʿūna
يَصْنَعُونَ
do
And Allah presents an example: a city [i.e., Makkah] which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allah. So Allah made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 112)
Tafsir
113

وَلَقَدْ جَاۤءَهُمْ رَسُوْلٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوْهُ فَاَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ وَهُمْ ظٰلِمُوْنَ ١١٣

walaqad
وَلَقَدْ
And certainly
jāahum
جَآءَهُمْ
came to them
rasūlun
رَسُولٌ
a Messenger
min'hum
مِّنْهُمْ
from among them
fakadhabūhu
فَكَذَّبُوهُ
but they denied him;
fa-akhadhahumu
فَأَخَذَهُمُ
so seized them
l-ʿadhābu
ٱلْعَذَابُ
the punishment
wahum
وَهُمْ
while they
ẓālimūna
ظَٰلِمُونَ
(were) wrongdoers
And there had certainly come to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 113)
Tafsir
114

فَكُلُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ حَلٰلًا طَيِّبًاۖ وَّاشْكُرُوْا نِعْمَتَ اللّٰهِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ اِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُوْنَ ١١٤

fakulū
فَكُلُوا۟
So eat
mimmā
مِمَّا
of what
razaqakumu
رَزَقَكُمُ
Allah has provided you
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah has provided you
ḥalālan
حَلَٰلًا
lawful
ṭayyiban
طَيِّبًا
and good
wa-ush'kurū
وَٱشْكُرُوا۟
And be grateful
niʿ'mata
نِعْمَتَ
(for the) Favor
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
[you]
iyyāhu
إِيَّاهُ
Him Alone
taʿbudūna
تَعْبُدُونَ
you worship
Then eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of Allah, if it is [indeed] Him that you worship. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 114)
Tafsir
115

اِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ وَالدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيْرِ وَمَآ اُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللّٰهِ بِهٖۚ فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَّلَا عَادٍ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ١١٥

innamā
إِنَّمَا
Only
ḥarrama
حَرَّمَ
He has forbidden
ʿalaykumu
عَلَيْكُمُ
to you
l-maytata
ٱلْمَيْتَةَ
the dead animal
wal-dama
وَٱلدَّمَ
and the blood
walaḥma
وَلَحْمَ
and the flesh
l-khinzīri
ٱلْخِنزِيرِ
(of) the swine
wamā
وَمَآ
and what
uhilla
أُهِلَّ
has been dedicated
lighayri
لِغَيْرِ
to other (than)
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
bihi
بِهِۦۖ
[with it]
famani
فَمَنِ
But (if) one
uḍ'ṭurra
ٱضْطُرَّ
(is) forced -
ghayra
غَيْرَ
without (being)
bāghin
بَاغٍ
disobedient
walā
وَلَا
and not
ʿādin
عَادٍ
a transgressor -
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
ghafūrun
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
raḥīmun
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful
He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 115)
Tafsir
116

وَلَا تَقُوْلُوْا لِمَا تَصِفُ اَلْسِنَتُكُمُ الْكَذِبَ هٰذَا حَلٰلٌ وَّهٰذَا حَرَامٌ لِّتَفْتَرُوْا عَلَى اللّٰهِ الْكَذِبَۗ اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ يَفْتَرُوْنَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ الْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُوْنَۗ ١١٦

walā
وَلَا
And (do) not
taqūlū
تَقُولُوا۟
say
limā
لِمَا
for that which
taṣifu
تَصِفُ
assert
alsinatukumu
أَلْسِنَتُكُمُ
your tongues
l-kadhiba
ٱلْكَذِبَ
the lie
hādhā
هَٰذَا
"This
ḥalālun
حَلَٰلٌ
(is) lawful
wahādhā
وَهَٰذَا
and this
ḥarāmun
حَرَامٌ
(is) forbidden"
litaftarū
لِّتَفْتَرُوا۟
so that you invent
ʿalā
عَلَى
about
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
l-kadhiba
ٱلْكَذِبَۚ
the lie
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
yaftarūna
يَفْتَرُونَ
invent
ʿalā
عَلَى
about
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
l-kadhiba
ٱلْكَذِبَ
the lie
لَا
they will not succeed
yuf'liḥūna
يُفْلِحُونَ
they will not succeed
And do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, "This is lawful and this is unlawful," to invent falsehood about Allah. Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 116)
Tafsir
117

مَتَاعٌ قَلِيْلٌ ۖوَّلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَلِيْمٌ ١١٧

matāʿun
مَتَٰعٌ
An enjoyment
qalīlun
قَلِيلٌ
little
walahum
وَلَهُمْ
and for them
ʿadhābun
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
alīmun
أَلِيمٌ
painful
[It is but] a brief enjoyment, and they will have a painful punishment. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 117)
Tafsir
118

وَعَلَى الَّذِيْنَ هَادُوْا حَرَّمْنَا مَا قَصَصْنَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۗوَمَا ظَلَمْنٰهُمْ وَلٰكِنْ كَانُوْٓا اَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُوْنَ ١١٨

waʿalā
وَعَلَى
And to
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
hādū
هَادُوا۟
are Jews
ḥarramnā
حَرَّمْنَا
We have forbidden
مَا
what
qaṣaṣnā
قَصَصْنَا
We related
ʿalayka
عَلَيْكَ
to you
min
مِن
before
qablu
قَبْلُۖ
before
wamā
وَمَا
And not
ẓalamnāhum
ظَلَمْنَٰهُمْ
We wronged them
walākin
وَلَٰكِن
but
kānū
كَانُوٓا۟
they used (to)
anfusahum
أَنفُسَهُمْ
themselves
yaẓlimūna
يَظْلِمُونَ
wrong
And to those who are Jews We have prohibited that which We related to you before. And We did not wrong them [thereby], but they were wronging themselves. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 118)
Tafsir
119

ثُمَّ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِيْنَ عَمِلُوا السُّوْۤءَ بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابُوْا مِنْۢ بَعْدِ ذٰلِكَ وَاَصْلَحُوْٓا اِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ࣖ ١١٩

Then
inna
إِنَّ
indeed
rabbaka
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
lilladhīna
لِلَّذِينَ
to those who
ʿamilū
عَمِلُوا۟
did
l-sūa
ٱلسُّوٓءَ
evil
bijahālatin
بِجَهَٰلَةٍ
in ignorance
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
tābū
تَابُوا۟
repented
min
مِنۢ
after
baʿdi
بَعْدِ
after
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
wa-aṣlaḥū
وَأَصْلَحُوٓا۟
and corrected themselves
inna
إِنَّ
indeed
rabbaka
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
min
مِنۢ
after that
baʿdihā
بَعْدِهَا
after that
laghafūrun
لَغَفُورٌ
(is) surely Oft-Forgiving
raḥīmun
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful
Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves – indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 119)
Tafsir
120

اِنَّ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ كَانَ اُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِّلّٰهِ حَنِيْفًاۗ وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَۙ ١٢٠

inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
ib'rāhīma
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
kāna
كَانَ
was
ummatan
أُمَّةً
a nation
qānitan
قَانِتًا
obedient
lillahi
لِّلَّهِ
to Allah
ḥanīfan
حَنِيفًا
upright
walam
وَلَمْ
and not
yaku
يَكُ
he was
mina
مِنَ
of
l-mush'rikīna
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
the polytheists
Indeed, Abraham was a [comprehensive] leader, devoutly obedient to Allah, inclining toward truth, and he was not of those who associate others with Allah. (QS. [16] An-Nahl: 120)
