Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Hijr Verse 16

We have created stellar formations in the sky and have beautified them for onlookers,

And verily We have placed in the heaven constellations, twelve [of them]; Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo (al-sunbula), Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, which are the mansions of the seven orbiting planets; Mars rules Aries and Scorpio, Venus; Taurus and Libra, Mercury; Gemini and Virgo, the Moon; Cancer, the Sun; Leo, Jupiter; Sagittarius and Pisces, and Saturn; Capricorn and Aquarius; and We have adorned it, with [these] planets, for beholders;

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

The Power of Allah and His Signs in the Heavens and on Earth

Allah says,

وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِي السَّمَاء بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّاهَا لِلنَّاظِرِينَ



And indeed, We have put the big stars in the heaven and We beautified it for the beholders.

To those who ponder, and look repeatedly at the dazzling signs and wonders that are to be seen in the creation, Allah mentions His creation of the heavens, with their immense height, and both the fixed and moving heavenly bodies with which He has adorned it.

Here, Mujahid and Qatadah said that;
Buruj (big stars) refers to the heavenly bodies.

I say;This is like the Ayah;

تَبَارَكَ الَّذِى جَعَلَ فِى السَّمَأءِ بُرُوجاً

Blessed be He Who has placed the big stars in the heavens. (25;61)

Atiyah Al-Awfi said;

"Buruj here refers to sentinel fortresses."

وَحَفِظْنَاهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيمٍ
