Al-Qur'an Surah Ibrahim Verse 51

Ibrahim [14]: 51 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

لِيَجْزِيَ اللّٰهُ كُلَّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ سَرِيْعُ الْحِسَابِ (ابراهيم : ١٤)

لِيَجْزِىَ
So that Allah may recompense

(for) what

كَسَبَتْۚ

ٱلْحِسَابِ
(in) the reckoning

Transliteration:

Liyajziyal laahu kulla nafsim maa kasabat; innal laaha saree'ul hisaab (QS. ʾIbrāhīm:51)

English / Sahih Translation:

So that Allah will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, Allah is swift in account. (QS. Ibrahim, ayah 51)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

so that Allah repays everyone in full whatever he earned. Indeed, Allah is swift at reckoning.

As such, Allah will reward every soul for what it has committed. Surely Allah is swift in reckoning.

English Literal

(So) God rewards/reimburses (E) each self what (it) gained/acquired , that God (is) fast (in) the account/calculation.

Tafsir jalalayn

that God may requite (li-yajziya is semantically connected to [the verb] baraz, `they shall come forth') every soul for what it has earned, of good and evil. Truly God is swift at reckoning -- He shall reckon with all creatures in about half a day of the days of this world, as one hadth states to that effect.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

لِيَجْزِي اللّهُ كُلَّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ

That Allah may requite each person according to what he has earned.

meaning, on the Day of Resurrection.

Allah said in another Ayah,

لِيَجْزِىَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ

That He may requite those who do evil with that which they have done. (53;31)

Allah said here,

إِنَّ اللّهَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ



Truly, Allah is swift at reckoning.

when He wills to reckon a servants of His, for He knows everything and nothing ever escapes His observation. Verily, His power over all of His creation is the same as His power over one creature,

مَّا خَلْقُكُمْ وَلَا بَعْثُكُمْ إِلاَّ كَنَفْسٍ وَحِدَةٍ

The creation of you all and the resurrection of you all are only as a single person. (31;28)

And this is why Mujahid said,
سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ
(swift at reckoning),

means "keeping count.
