Al-Qur'an Surah Ibrahim Verse 45

Ibrahim [14]: 45 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَّسَكَنْتُمْ فِيْ مَسٰكِنِ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْٓا اَنْفُسَهُمْ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمْ كَيْفَ فَعَلْنَا بِهِمْ وَضَرَبْنَا لَكُمُ الْاَمْثَالَ (ابراهيم : ١٤)

wasakantum
وَسَكَنتُمْ
And you dwelt
فِى

the dwellings

We dealt
bihim
بِهِمْ
with them
waḍarabnā
وَضَرَبْنَا
and We put forth
lakumu
لَكُمُ
for you
l-amthāla
ٱلْأَمْثَالَ
the examples"

Transliteration:

Wa sakantum fee masaakinil lazeena zalamooo anfusahum wa tabaiyana lakum kaifa fa'alnaa bihim wa darabnaa lakumul amsaal (QS. ʾIbrāhīm:45)

English / Sahih Translation:

And you lived among the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them. And We presented for you [many] examples." (QS. Ibrahim, ayah 45)

And you dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, and We put forth for you the examples.”

You passed by the ruins of those ˹destroyed peoples˺ who had wronged themselves.[[ Arab traders used to pass by the homes of some destroyed nations on their journeys to Syria and Yemen (such as ’Ȃd and Thamûd, respectively), stopping shortly for rest. ]] It was made clear to you how We dealt with them, and We gave you ˹many˺ examples.

English Literal

And you resided in those who were unjust/oppressive (to) themselves` residences, and how We made/did with them was clarified/shown for you, and We gave to you the examples/proverbs.

Tafsir jalalayn

And you dwelt, in it, in the dwelling-places of those who wronged themselves, through unbelief, [those] from among communities of old, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, by way of punishment -- but you were not restrained [thereby] -- and We struck, made clear, similitudes for you, in the Qur'n, but you did not take heed.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And you dwelt in the dwellings of men who wronged themselves, and it was clear to you how We had dealt with them. And We put forth (many) parables for you.

Allah says, `you have witnessed or heard of the news of what happened to the earlier disbelieving nations, but you did not draw a lesson from their end, nor did what We punished them with provide an example for you,'

حِكْمَةٌ بَـلِغَةٌ فَمَا تُغْنِـى النُّذُرُ

Perfect wisdom but the warners benefit then not. (54;5)

وَقَدْ مَكَرُواْ مَكْرَهُمْ وَعِندَ اللّهِ مَكْرُهُمْ وَإِن كَانَ مَكْرُهُمْ لِتَزُولَ مِنْهُ الْجِبَالُ
