Al-Qur'an Surah Ibrahim Verse 42
Ibrahim [14]: 42 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ اللّٰهَ غَافِلًا عَمَّا يَعْمَلُ الظّٰلِمُوْنَ ەۗ اِنَّمَا يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ تَشْخَصُ فِيْهِ الْاَبْصَارُۙ (ابراهيم : ١٤)
- walā
- وَلَا
- And (do) not
- taḥsabanna
- تَحْسَبَنَّ
- think
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- (that) Allah
- ghāfilan
- غَٰفِلًا
- (is) unaware
- ʿammā
- عَمَّا
- of what
- yaʿmalu
- يَعْمَلُ
- do
- l-ẓālimūna
- ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَۚ
- the wrongdoers
- innamā
- إِنَّمَا
- Only
- yu-akhiruhum
- يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ
- He gives them respite
- liyawmin
- لِيَوْمٍ
- to a Day
- tashkhaṣu
- تَشْخَصُ
- will stare
- fīhi
- فِيهِ
- in it
- l-abṣāru
- ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ
- the eyes
Transliteration:
Wa laa tahsabannal laaha ghaafilan 'ammaa ya'maluz zaalimoon; innamaa yu'akh khiruhum li Yawmin tashkhasu feehil absaar(QS. ʾIbrāhīm:42)
English / Sahih Translation:
And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them [i.e., their account] for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]. (QS. Ibrahim, ayah 42)
Mufti Taqi Usmani
Never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers are doing. He is but giving them respite up to a day when the eyes shall remain upraised (in terror).

English Literal
And do not think/suppose that God (is) ignoring/neglecting from what the unjust/oppressive make/do , but God delays them to a day the eye sights/knowledge stare/gaze in it.

Tafsir jalalayn
And do not suppose that God is heedless of what the evildoers, the disbelievers from among the people of Mecca, do. He but gives them respite, without chastisement, until a day when eyes shall stare wide-open, because of the terror of what they see (one says shakhasa basaru fuln to mean `he opened them [his eyes] and did not shut them');
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
Allah gives Respite to the Disbelievers and is never unaware of what They do
Allah says,
وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ اللّهَ غَافِلً عَمَّا يَعْمَلُ الظَّالِمُونَ
Consider not that Allah is unaware of that which the wrongdoers do,
Allah says, `O Muhammad, do not think that Allah is unaware of what the unjust disbelievers do. Do not think because Allah gave them respite and delayed their punishment that He is unaware or ignoring punishing them for what they do. Rather, Allah keeps full account of this for them and keeps it on record against them,
إِنَّمَا يُوَخِّرُهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ تَشْخَصُ فِيهِ الَابْصَارُ
but He gives them respite up to a Day when the eyes will stare in horror.
from the horror of the Day of Resurrection.
Allah next mentions how they will all be raised up from their graves and hurriedly gathered for the Day of Gathering
