English / Sahih Translation:

Thus have We sent you to a community before which [other] communities have passed on so you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return." (QS. Ar-Ra'd, ayah 30)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Thus We have sent you, amidst a community before which many communities have passed away, so that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you, while they disbelieve in Ar-RaHmān (the All-Merciful Allah). Say, “He is my Lord. There is no god but He. In Him I place my trust, and to Him is my return.”

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

And so We have sent you ˹O Prophet˺ to a community, like ˹We did with˺ earlier communities, so that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they deny the Most Compassionate.[[ See {17:110} and {25:60}.]] Say, “He is my Lord! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. In Him I put my trust, and to Him I turn ˹in repentance˺.”

Ruwwad Translation Center

Thus did We send you to a community before which other communities had passed away, so that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you, yet they disbelieve in the Most Compassionate. Say, “He is my Lord; none has the right to be worshiped except Him. In Him I put my trust, and to Him is my return.”

A. J. Arberry

Thus We have sent thee among a nation before which other nations have passed away, to recite to them that We have revealed to thee; and yet they disbelieve in the All-merciful. Say: 'He is my Lord -- there is no god but He. In Him I have put my trust, and to Him I turn.'

Abdul Haleem

So We have sent you [Prophet] to a community- other communities passed away long before them- to recite to them what We reveal to you. Yet they disbelieve in the Lord of Mercy. Say, ‘He is my Lord: there is no god but Him. I put my trust in Him and to Him is my return.’

Abdul Majid Daryabadi

Thus We have sent thee unto a community before whom other communities have passed away, in order that thou mayest recite unto them that which We have Revealed unto thee; yet they disbelieve in the Compassionate. Say thou: He is my Lord, there is no god but he; on Him I rely, and unto Him is my return in penitence.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Thus have we sent thee amongst a People before whom (long since) have (other) Peoples (gone and) passed away; in order that thou mightest rehearse unto them what We send down unto thee by inspiration; yet do they reject (Him), the Most Gracious! Say; "He is my Lord! There is no god but He! On Him is my trust, and to Him do I turn!"

Abul Ala Maududi

Thus have We sent you as a Messenger to a community before which many other communities have passed away that you may recite to them whatever We have revealed to you. And yet they deny the Lord of Mercy. Say to them: "He is my Lord, there is no god but Him. In Him I have placed all my trust and to Him I shall return."

Ahmed Ali

That is how We have sent you to a people before whom many a people have come and gone, so that you may announce to them whatever We have revealed to you. But they do not believe in Ar-Rahman. Tell them: "He is my Lord. There is no other god but He. In Him have I placed my trust, and to Him is my reversion."

Ahmed Raza Khan

Similarly We sent you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) towards the nation, before whom other nations have passed away, for you to recite to them the divine revelations We sent down to you, whereas they are denying the Most Gracious; proclaim, “He is my Lord – there is no worship except for Him; I rely only upon Him and only towards Him is my return.”

Ali Quli Qarai

Thus have We sent you to a nation before which many nations have passed away, that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they defy the All-beneficent. Say, ‘He is my Lord; there is no god except Him; in Him I have put my trust, and to Him will be my return.’

Ali Ünal

For that end We have raised you as Messenger among a community before whom other (similar) communities have come and gone, that you may recite and convey to them what We reveal to you, whereas (in their ignorance) they disbelieve in the All-Merciful. Say: "He is my Lord. There is no deity save Him. In Him I have put my trust, and to Him is my recourse."

Amatul Rahman Omar

It is therefore, We have sent you to a people before whom other peoples have passed away, so that you may recite to them that (Qur´ân) which We have revealed to you, Yet they disbelieve in (God) the Most Gracious. Say, `He is my Lord, there is no other, cannot be and will never be One worthy of worship but He. In Him do I put my trust and to Him is my complete return.´

English Literal

As/like that We sent you in (a) nation, nations had passed/expired in it, to read/recite on them what We inspired/transmitted to you, and they disbelieve with (in) the merciful, say: "He is my Lord, no God except He, on Him I relied/depended , and to Him (is) my repentance."

Faridul Haque

Similarly We sent you (O dear Prophet Mohammed - peace and blessings be upon him) towards the nation, before whom other nations have passed away, for you to recite to them the divine revelations We sent down to you, whereas they are denying the Most Gracious; proclaim, "He is my Lord - there is no worship except for Him; I rely only upon Him and only towards Him is my return."

Hamid S. Aziz

Those who believe and do what is right; Joy is for them and an excellent journey´s end."

Hilali & Khan

Thus have We sent you (O Muhammad SAW) to a community before whom other communities have passed away, in order that you might recite unto them what We have inspired to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Beneficient (Allah) Say: "He is my Lord! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! In Him is my trust, and to Him will be my return with repentance."

Maulana Mohammad Ali

Those who believe and do good, a good final state is theirs and a goodly return.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

And thus We have sent you among a nation before which other nations have passed away, that you might recite to them what We have revealed to you and (still) they deny the Beneficent Allah. Say: He is my Lord, there is no god but He; on Him do I rely and to Him is my return.

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Thus We send thee (O Muhammad) unto a nation, before whom other nations have passed away, that thou mayst recite unto them that which We have inspired in thee, while they are disbelievers in the Beneficent. Say: He is my Lord; there is no Allah save Him. In Him do I put my trust and unto Him is my recourse.

Muhammad Sarwar

We have sent you to a nation before whom there lived many nations so that you would read to them what We have revealed to you. They still deny the existence of the Beneficent God. Say, "He is my Lord besides whom there is no other God. I trust Him and turn to Him in repentance."

Qaribullah & Darwish

As such, We have sent you forth to a nation before whom others have passed away in order that you recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they disbelieve the Merciful. Say: 'He is my Lord. There is no god except He. In Him I have put my trust, and to Him I turn'

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

Thus have We sent you to a community before whom other communities have passed away, in order that you might recite unto them what We have revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Gracious (Allah). Say: "He is my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but He! In Him is my trust, and to Him I turn."

Wahiduddin Khan

Thus We have sent you to a people, before whom other peoples have passed away, so that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they deny the Gracious God. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no god but He. In Him I put my trust and to Him I shall return."

Talal Itani

Thus We sent you among a community before which other communities have passed away, that you may recite to them what We revealed to you. Yet they deny the Benevolent One. Say, “He is my Lord; there is no god but He; in Him I trust, and to Him is my repentance.”

Tafsir jalalayn

Thus, just as We sent prophets before you, We have sent you to a community before whom other communities have passed away, that you may recite to them that which We have revealed to you, that is, the Qur'n; yet they disbelieve in the Compassionate One, for, when they were commanded to prostrate themselves to Him, they said, `And what is the Compassionate One?' Say, to them, O Muhammad (s); `He is my Lord; there is no god save Him. In Him I trust and to Him is my recourse'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Our Prophet was sent to recite and call to Allah's Revelation

Allah says,

Thus have We sent you to a community before whom other communities have passed away,

Allah says, `Just as We sent you, O Muhammad, to your Ummah,

in order that you might recite unto them what We have revealed to you,

so that you deliver to them Allah's Message. Likewise, We sent others to earlier nations that disbelieved in Allah. The Messengers whom We sent before you, were also denied and rejected, so you have an example in what they faced. And since We sent Our torment and revenge on those people, then let these people fear what will strike them, for their denial of you is harsher than the denial that the previous Messengers faced,'

By Allah, We indeed sent (Messengers) to the nations before you. (16-63)

Allah said in another Ayah,

Verily, many Messengers were denied before you, with patience they bore the denial and suffering until; till Our help reached them, and none can alter the Words (decree) of Allah. Surely, there has reached you the information (news) about the Messengers (before you). (6-34),

meaning, `How We gave them victory and granted the best end for them and their followers in this life and the Hereafter. '

Allah said next,

while they disbelieve in the Most Gracious (Allah).

Allah says, `These people, that We sent you to, disbelieve in the Most Gracious and deny Him, because they dislike describing Allah by Ar-Rahman,Ar-Rahim (the Most Gracious, Most Merciful).'

This is why on the day of Al-Hudaybiyyah, as Al-Bukhari narrated, they refused to write, "In the Name of Allah, Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim," saying, "We do not know Ar-Rahman,Ar-Rahim!"

Qatadah narrated this words. Allah the Exalted said,

Say;"Invoke Allah or invoke the Most Gracious (Allah), by whatever name you invoke Him, for to Him belong the Best Names. (17;110)

In his Sahih, Imam Muslim recorded that Abdullah bin Umar said that the Messenger of Allah said,

The most beloved names to Allah the Exalted are;

Abdullah and

Abdur-Rahman.

Allah said next,

Say;"He is my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but He!"

meaning;for I believe in Allah in Whom you disbelieve and affirm His Divinity and Lordship. He is my Lord, there is no deity worthy of worship except Him,

In Him is my trust,

in all of my affairs,

and to Him I turn.

meaning;to Him I return and repent, for He alone is worthy of all this and none else besides Him
