Surah Ar-Ra'd - Page: 4

(The Thunder)

31

وَلَوْ اَنَّ قُرْاٰنًا سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ الْجِبَالُ اَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ الْاَرْضُ اَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ الْمَوْتٰىۗ بَلْ لِّلّٰهِ الْاَمْرُ جَمِيْعًاۗ اَفَلَمْ يَا۟يْـَٔسِ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْٓا اَنْ لَّوْ يَشَاۤءُ اللّٰهُ لَهَدَى النَّاسَ جَمِيْعًاۗ وَلَا يَزَالُ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا تُصِيْبُهُمْ بِمَا صَنَعُوْا قَارِعَةٌ اَوْ تَحُلُّ قَرِيْبًا مِّنْ دَارِهِمْ حَتّٰى يَأْتِيَ وَعْدُ اللّٰهِ ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْمِيْعَادَ ࣖ ٣١

walaw
وَلَوْ
And if
anna
أَنَّ
that was
qur'ānan
قُرْءَانًا
any Quran
suyyirat
سُيِّرَتْ
could be moved
bihi
بِهِ
by it
l-jibālu
ٱلْجِبَالُ
the mountains
aw
أَوْ
or
quṭṭiʿat
قُطِّعَتْ
could be cloven asunder
bihi
بِهِ
by it
l-arḍu
ٱلْأَرْضُ
the earth
aw
أَوْ
or
kullima
كُلِّمَ
could be made to speak
bihi
بِهِ
by it
l-mawtā
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰۗ
the dead
bal
بَل
Nay
lillahi
لِّلَّهِ
with Allah
l-amru
ٱلْأَمْرُ
(is) the command
jamīʿan
جَمِيعًاۗ
all
afalam
أَفَلَمْ
Then do not
yāy'asi
يَا۟يْـَٔسِ
know
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
believe
an
أَن
that
law
لَّوْ
if
yashāu
يَشَآءُ
had willed
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
lahadā
لَهَدَى
surely, He would have guided
l-nāsa
ٱلنَّاسَ
all?
jamīʿan
جَمِيعًاۗ
all of the mankind?
walā
وَلَا
And not
yazālu
يَزَالُ
will cease
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieve
tuṣībuhum
تُصِيبُهُم
to strike them
bimā
بِمَا
for what
ṣanaʿū
صَنَعُوا۟
they did
qāriʿatun
قَارِعَةٌ
a disaster
aw
أَوْ
or
taḥullu
تَحُلُّ
it settles
qarīban
قَرِيبًا
close
min
مِّن
from
dārihim
دَارِهِمْ
their homes
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
yatiya
يَأْتِىَ
comes
waʿdu
وَعْدُ
(the) promise
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِۚ
(of) Allah
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(will) not
yukh'lifu
يُخْلِفُ
fail
l-mīʿāda
ٱلْمِيعَادَ
(in) the Promise
And if there was any Quran [i.e., recitation] by which the mountains would be removed or the earth would be broken apart or the dead would be made to speak, [it would be this Quran], but to Allah belongs the affair entirely. Then have those who believed not accepted that had Allah willed, He would have guided the people, all of them? And those who disbelieve do not cease to be struck, for what they have done, by calamity – or it will descend near their home – until there comes the promise of Allah. Indeed, Allah does not fail in [His] promise. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 31)
Tafsir
32

وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّنْ قَبْلِكَ فَاَمْلَيْتُ لِلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا ثُمَّ اَخَذْتُهُمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ ٣٢

walaqadi
وَلَقَدِ
And certainly
us'tuh'zi-a
ٱسْتُهْزِئَ
were mocked
birusulin
بِرُسُلٍ
Messengers
min
مِّن
from
qablika
قَبْلِكَ
before you
fa-amlaytu
فَأَمْلَيْتُ
but I granted respite
lilladhīna
لِلَّذِينَ
to those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
akhadhtuhum
أَخَذْتُهُمْۖ
I seized them
fakayfa
فَكَيْفَ
and how
kāna
كَانَ
was
ʿiqābi
عِقَابِ
My penalty
And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 32)
Tafsir
33

اَفَمَنْ هُوَ قَاۤىِٕمٌ عَلٰى كُلِّ نَفْسٍۢ بِمَا كَسَبَتْۚ وَجَعَلُوْا لِلّٰهِ شُرَكَاۤءَ ۗ قُلْ سَمُّوْهُمْۗ اَمْ تُنَبِّـُٔوْنَهٗ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ فِى الْاَرْضِ اَمْ بِظَاهِرٍ مِّنَ الْقَوْلِ ۗبَلْ زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مَكْرُهُمْ وَصُدُّوْا عَنِ السَّبِيْلِ ۗوَمَنْ يُّضْلِلِ اللّٰهُ فَمَا لَهٗ مِنْ هَادٍ ٣٣

afaman
أَفَمَنْ
Is then He Who
huwa
هُوَ
(He)
qāimun
قَآئِمٌ
(is) a Maintainer
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
of
kulli
كُلِّ
every
nafsin
نَفْسٍۭ
soul
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kasabat
كَسَبَتْۗ
it has earned?
wajaʿalū
وَجَعَلُوا۟
Yet they ascribe
lillahi
لِلَّهِ
to Allah
shurakāa
شُرَكَآءَ
partners
qul
قُلْ
Say
sammūhum
سَمُّوهُمْۚ
"Name them
am
أَمْ
Or
tunabbiūnahu
تُنَبِّـُٔونَهُۥ
(do) you inform Him
bimā
بِمَا
of what
لَا
not
yaʿlamu
يَعْلَمُ
He knows
فِى
in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
am
أَم
or
biẓāhirin
بِظَٰهِرٍ
of the apparent
mina
مِّنَ
of
l-qawli
ٱلْقَوْلِۗ
the words?"
bal
بَلْ
Nay
zuyyina
زُيِّنَ
(is) made fair-seeming
lilladhīna
لِلَّذِينَ
to those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieve
makruhum
مَكْرُهُمْ
their plotting
waṣuddū
وَصُدُّوا۟
and they are hindered
ʿani
عَنِ
from
l-sabīli
ٱلسَّبِيلِۗ
the Path
waman
وَمَن
And whoever
yuḍ'lili
يُضْلِلِ
(by) Allah
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah lets go astray
famā
فَمَا
then not
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
min
مِنْ
any
hādin
هَادٍ
guide
Then is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned, [like any other]? But to Allah they have attributed partners. Say, "Name them. Or do you inform Him of that which He knows not upon the earth or of what is apparent [i.e., alleged] of speech?" Rather, their [own] plan has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they have been averted from the way. And whomever Allah sends astray – there will be for him no guide. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 33)
Tafsir
34

لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ فِى الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا وَلَعَذَابُ الْاٰخِرَةِ اَشَقُّۚ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ مِنْ وَّاقٍ ٣٤

lahum
لَّهُمْ
For them
ʿadhābun
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
فِى
in
l-ḥayati
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
the life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَاۖ
(of) the world
walaʿadhābu
وَلَعَذَابُ
and surely the punishment
l-ākhirati
ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
(of) the Hereafter
ashaqqu
أَشَقُّۖ
(is) harder
wamā
وَمَا
And not
lahum
لَهُم
for them
mina
مِّنَ
against
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
min
مِن
any
wāqin
وَاقٍ
defender
For them will be punishment in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have from Allah any protector. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 34)
Tafsir
35

۞ مَثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِيْ وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُوْنَۗ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُۗ اُكُلُهَا دَاۤىِٕمٌ وَّظِلُّهَاۗ تِلْكَ عُقْبَى الَّذِيْنَ اتَّقَوْا ۖوَّعُقْبَى الْكٰفِرِيْنَ النَّارُ ٣٥

مَّثَلُ
The example
l-janati
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
of Paradise
allatī
ٱلَّتِى
which
wuʿida
وُعِدَ
(is) promised
l-mutaqūna
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَۖ
(to) the righteous
tajrī
تَجْرِى
flows
min
مِن
from
taḥtihā
تَحْتِهَا
underneath it
l-anhāru
ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُۖ
the rivers
ukuluhā
أُكُلُهَا
Its food
dāimun
دَآئِمٌ
(is) everlasting
waẓilluhā
وَظِلُّهَاۚ
and its shade
til'ka
تِلْكَ
This
ʿuq'bā
عُقْبَى
(is the) end
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
of those who
ittaqaw
ٱتَّقَوا۟ۖ
(are) righteous
waʿuq'bā
وَّعُقْبَى
and (the) end
l-kāfirīna
ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
(of) the disbelievers
l-nāru
ٱلنَّارُ
(is) the Fire
The example [i.e., description] of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, is [that] beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting, and its shade. That is the consequence for the righteous, and the consequence for the disbelievers is the Fire. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 35)
Tafsir
36

وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰتَيْنٰهُمُ الْكِتٰبَ يَفْرَحُوْنَ بِمَآ اُنْزِلَ اِلَيْكَ وَمِنَ الْاَحْزَابِ مَنْ يُّنْكِرُ بَعْضَهٗ ۗ قُلْ اِنَّمَآ اُمِرْتُ اَنْ اَعْبُدَ اللّٰهَ وَلَآ اُشْرِكَ بِهٖ ۗاِلَيْهِ اَدْعُوْا وَاِلَيْهِ مَاٰبِ ٣٦

wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
And those (to) whom
ātaynāhumu
ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ
We have given them
l-kitāba
ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
the Book
yafraḥūna
يَفْرَحُونَ
rejoice
bimā
بِمَآ
at what
unzila
أُنزِلَ
has been revealed
ilayka
إِلَيْكَۖ
to you
wamina
وَمِنَ
but among
l-aḥzābi
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
the groups
man
مَن
(those) who
yunkiru
يُنكِرُ
deny
baʿḍahu
بَعْضَهُۥۚ
a part of it
qul
قُلْ
Say
innamā
إِنَّمَآ
"Only
umir'tu
أُمِرْتُ
I have been commanded
an
أَنْ
that
aʿbuda
أَعْبُدَ
I worship
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
walā
وَلَآ
and not
ush'rika
أُشْرِكَ
I associate partners
bihi
بِهِۦٓۚ
with Him
ilayhi
إِلَيْهِ
To Him
adʿū
أَدْعُوا۟
I call
wa-ilayhi
وَإِلَيْهِ
and to Him
maābi
مَـَٔابِ
(is) my return"
And [the believers among] those to whom We have given the [previous] Scripture rejoice at what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], but among the [opposing] factions are those who deny part of it [i.e., the Quran]. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allah and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return." (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 36)
Tafsir
37

وَكَذٰلِكَ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ حُكْمًا عَرَبِيًّاۗ وَلَىِٕنِ اتَّبَعْتَ اَهْوَاۤءَهُمْ بَعْدَمَا جَاۤءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِۙ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللّٰهِ مِنْ وَّلِيٍّ وَّلَا وَاقٍ ࣖ ٣٧

wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
anzalnāhu
أَنزَلْنَٰهُ
We have revealed it
ḥuk'man
حُكْمًا
(to be) a judgment of authority
ʿarabiyyan
عَرَبِيًّاۚ
(in) Arabic
wala-ini
وَلَئِنِ
And if
ittabaʿta
ٱتَّبَعْتَ
you follow
ahwāahum
أَهْوَآءَهُم
their desires
baʿdamā
بَعْدَمَا
after what
jāaka
جَآءَكَ
came to you
mina
مِنَ
of
l-ʿil'mi
ٱلْعِلْمِ
the knowledge
مَا
not
laka
لَكَ
for you
mina
مِنَ
against
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
min
مِن
any
waliyyin
وَلِىٍّ
protector
walā
وَلَا
and not
wāqin
وَاقٍ
defender
And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic legislation. And if you should follow their inclinations after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against Allah any ally or any protector. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 37)
Tafsir
38

وَلَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِّنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ اَزْوَاجًا وَّذُرِّيَّةً ۗوَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُوْلٍ اَنْ يَّأْتِيَ بِاٰيَةٍ اِلَّا بِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِ ۗلِكُلِّ اَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ ٣٨

walaqad
وَلَقَدْ
And certainly
arsalnā
أَرْسَلْنَا
We sent
rusulan
رُسُلًا
Messengers
min
مِّن
from
qablika
قَبْلِكَ
before you
wajaʿalnā
وَجَعَلْنَا
and We made
lahum
لَهُمْ
for them
azwājan
أَزْوَٰجًا
wives
wadhurriyyatan
وَذُرِّيَّةًۚ
and offspring
wamā
وَمَا
And not
kāna
كَانَ
was
lirasūlin
لِرَسُولٍ
for a Messenger
an
أَن
that
yatiya
يَأْتِىَ
he comes
biāyatin
بِـَٔايَةٍ
with a sign
illā
إِلَّا
except
bi-idh'ni
بِإِذْنِ
by the leave
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِۗ
(of) Allah
likulli
لِكُلِّ
For everything
ajalin
أَجَلٍ
(is) a time
kitābun
كِتَابٌ
prescribed
And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendants. And it was not for a messenger to come with a sign except by permission of Allah. For every term is a decree. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 38)
Tafsir
39

يَمْحُوا اللّٰهُ مَا يَشَاۤءُ وَيُثْبِتُ ۚوَعِنْدَهٗٓ اُمُّ الْكِتٰبِ ٣٩

yamḥū
يَمْحُوا۟
(Is) eliminated
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
مَا
what
yashāu
يَشَآءُ
He wills
wayuth'bitu
وَيُثْبِتُۖ
and confirms
waʿindahu
وَعِندَهُۥٓ
and with Him
ummu
أُمُّ
(is) the Mother (of) the Book
l-kitābi
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
(is) the Mother (of) the Book
Allah eliminates what He wills or confirms, and with Him is the Mother of the Book. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 39)
Tafsir
40

وَاِنْ مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذِيْ نَعِدُهُمْ اَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَاِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلٰغُ وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ ٤٠

wa-in
وَإِن
And whether
مَّا
(what)
nuriyannaka
نُرِيَنَّكَ
We show you
baʿḍa
بَعْضَ
a part
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
(of) what
naʿiduhum
نَعِدُهُمْ
We have promised them
aw
أَوْ
or
natawaffayannaka
نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ
We cause you to die
fa-innamā
فَإِنَّمَا
so only
ʿalayka
عَلَيْكَ
on you
l-balāghu
ٱلْبَلَٰغُ
(is) the conveyance
waʿalaynā
وَعَلَيْنَا
and on Us
l-ḥisābu
ٱلْحِسَابُ
(is) the reckoning
And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account. (QS. [13] Ar-Ra'd: 40)
