Al-Qur'an Surah Yusuf Verse 52

Yusuf [12]: 52 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

ذٰلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ اَنِّيْ لَمْ اَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ وَاَنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهْدِيْ كَيْدَ الْخَاۤىِٕنِيْنَ ۔ (يوسف : ١٢)

ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ
(of) the betrayers"

Transliteration:

Zaalika liya'lama annee lam akhunhu bilghaibi wa annal laaha laa yahdee kaidal khaaa'ineen (QS. Yūsuf:52)

English / Sahih Translation:

That is so he [i.e., al-Azeez] will know that I did not betray him in [his] absence and that Allah does not guide the plan of betrayers. (QS. Yusuf, ayah 52)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

(Then Yūsuf said), “That was because he (the governor) may know that I did not betray him in his absence, and that Allah does not lead the guile of betrayers to success.

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

From this, Joseph should know that I did not speak dishonestly about him in his absence, for Allah certainly does not guide the scheming of the dishonest.

"This (say I), in order that He may know that I have never been false to him in his absence, and that Allah will never guide the snare of the false ones.

Joseph said: "I did this so that he [i.e. the chief) may know that I did not betray him in his absence, and that Allah does not allow the design of the treacherous to succeed.

(At this Joseph remarked:) "From this (the Minister) should know that I did not betray him in his absence, and that God does not surely let the wiles of those who betray ever succeed.

[Joseph said], [‘I initiated] this [inquiry], that he may know that I did not betray him in his absence, and that Allah does not further the schemes of the treacherous.’

(Joseph was informed of the women’s confessions and the declaration of his innocence. He explained why he had asked for the inquiry:) "This was so that he (my former lord) should know that I did not betray him in his absence, and that God never guides the schemes of the treacherous (to success).

Amatul Rahman Omar

(When the news was brought to Joseph he said,) `This (course of action I adopted) so that he (- the `Azîz) might know that I had not betrayed him in (his) absence and that Allâh suffers not the device of the unfaithful to succeed.´

English Literal

That (it is) to him to know that I, I did not betray/become unfaithful to him with the unseen/hidden and that God does not guide the betrayer`s/unfaithful`s plot/conspiracy .

Said Yusuf, "I did this so that the governor may realise that I did not betray him behind his back, and Allah does not let the deceit of betrayers be successful."

He (the king sent for the women and) said, "What happened when you sought to seduce Joseph?" They said, "Allah preserve us! We know no evil of him." Said the wife of the Minister, "Now is the truth exposed! It was I who sought to seduce him. Truly, he is of the truthful."

[Then Yusuf (Joseph) said: "I asked for this enquiry] in order that he (Al-'Aziz) may know that I betrayed him not in secret. And, verily! Allah guides not the plot of the betrayers.

(The king) said: What was your affair when you sought to seduce Joseph? They said: Holy Allah! We knew of no evil on his part. The chief’s wife said: Now has the truth become manifest. I sought to seduce him and he is surely of the truthful.

This is that he might know that I have not been unfaithful to him in secret and that Allah does not guide the device of the unfaithful.

(Then Joseph said: I asked for) this, that he (my lord) may know that I betrayed him not in secret, and that surely Allah guideth not the snare of the betrayers.

(Joseph said), "This proves that I was not disloyal to the King in his absence. God does not grant success to the efforts of disloyal people.

This (I have done) so that he will know I did not secretly betray him, and that Allah does not guide the guile of the treacherous.

[Then Yusuf said: "I asked for this inquiry] in order that he may know that I betrayed him not in (his) absence." And, verily, Allah guides not the plot of the betrayers.

"From this," said Joseph, "[The nobleman] should know that I did not betray him in his absence, and that God does not guide the plotting of the treacherous.

“This is that he may know that I did not betray him in secret, and that God does not guide the scheming of the betrayers.”

Tafsir jalalayn

`That, plea of innocence, is so that he, the Court officer, may know I did not betray him, with regard to his family, in his absence (bi'l-ghayb is a circumstantial qualifier), and that truly God does not guide [to success] the guile of the treacherous; he [Joseph] then humbled himself before God and said;

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

ذَلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ

in order that he may know that I betrayed him not in (his) absence.

She said, `I admit this against myself so that my husband knows that I did not betray him in his absence and that adultery did not occur. I tried to seduce this young man and he refused, and I am admitting this so that he knows I am innocent,'

وَأَنَّ اللّهَ لَا يَهْدِي كَيْدَ الْخَايِنِينَ
