Al-Qur'an Surah Yusuf Verse 14

Yusuf [12]: 14 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالُوْا لَىِٕنْ اَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ اِنَّآ اِذًا لَّخٰسِرُوْنَ (يوسف : ١٢)

وَنَحْنُ

lakhāsirūna
لَّخَٰسِرُونَ
surely (would be) losers"

Transliteration:

Qaaloo la in akalahuzzi'bu wa nahnu 'usbatun innaaa izal lakhaasiroon (QS. Yūsuf:14)

English / Sahih Translation:

They said, "If a wolf should eat him while we are a [strong] clan, indeed, we would then be losers." (QS. Yusuf, ayah 14)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

They said, “If a wolf eats him up, while we are a whole group, we are then losers indeed.”

They said, “If a wolf were to devour him, despite our strong group, then we would certainly be losers!”

They replied: "If a wolf should devour him when we are there, a well-knit band, we shall certainly be treacherous."

They said: "If (E) the wolf ate him, and we are a group/band/company, that we are then losers (E)."

Said he, "Verily, it grieves me that you should take him with you, for I fear lest the wolf devour him while you take no heed."

Tafsir jalalayn

They said, `Truly if (la-in; the lm here is for oaths) the wolf were to devour him, when we are [so hardy] a band, a group, then we indeed are losers!', incapable [of anything]. Thus, he sent him off with them.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

They said;"If a wolf devours him, while we are an `Usbah, then surely, we are the losers.

They said, `If a wolf should attack and devour him while we are all around him in a strong group, then indeed we are the losers and weak.
