51

قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُنَّ اِذْ رَاوَدْتُّنَّ يُوْسُفَ عَنْ نَّفْسِهٖۗ قُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلّٰهِ مَا عَلِمْنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سُوْۤءٍ ۗقَالَتِ امْرَاَتُ الْعَزِيْزِ الْـٰٔنَ حَصْحَصَ الْحَقُّۖ اَنَا۠ رَاوَدْتُّهٗ عَنْ نَّفْسِهٖ وَاِنَّهٗ لَمِنَ الصّٰدِقِيْنَ ٥١

qāla
قَالَ
He said
مَا
"What
khaṭbukunna
خَطْبُكُنَّ
(was) your affair
idh
إِذْ
when
rāwadttunna
رَٰوَدتُّنَّ
you sought to seduce
yūsufa
يُوسُفَ
Yusuf
ʿan
عَن
from
nafsihi
نَّفْسِهِۦۚ
himself?"
qul'na
قُلْنَ
They said
ḥāsha
حَٰشَ
"Allah forbid!
lillahi
لِلَّهِ
"Allah forbid!
مَا
Not
ʿalim'nā
عَلِمْنَا
we know
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
about him
min
مِن
any
sūin
سُوٓءٍۚ
evil"
qālati
قَالَتِ
Said
im'ra-atu
ٱمْرَأَتُ
(the) wife
l-ʿazīzi
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
(of) Aziz
l-āna
ٱلْـَٰٔنَ
"Now
ḥaṣḥaṣa
حَصْحَصَ
(is) manifest
l-ḥaqu
ٱلْحَقُّ
the truth
anā
أَنَا۠
I
rāwadttuhu
رَٰوَدتُّهُۥ
sought to seduce him
ʿan
عَن
from
nafsihi
نَّفْسِهِۦ
himself
wa-innahu
وَإِنَّهُۥ
and indeed, he
lamina
لَمِنَ
(is) surely of
l-ṣādiqīna
ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
the truthful
Said [the king to the women], "What was your condition when you sought to seduce Joseph?" They said, "Perfect is Allah! We know about him no evil." The wife of al-Azeez said, "Now the truth has become evident. It was I who sought to seduce him, and indeed, he is of the truthful. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 51)
Tafsir
52

ذٰلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ اَنِّيْ لَمْ اَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ وَاَنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهْدِيْ كَيْدَ الْخَاۤىِٕنِيْنَ ۔ ٥٢

dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
liyaʿlama
لِيَعْلَمَ
he may know
annī
أَنِّى
that I
lam
لَمْ
not
akhun'hu
أَخُنْهُ
[I] betray him
bil-ghaybi
بِٱلْغَيْبِ
in secret
wa-anna
وَأَنَّ
and that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(does) not
yahdī
يَهْدِى
guide
kayda
كَيْدَ
(the) plan
l-khāinīna
ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ
(of) the betrayers"
That is so he [i.e., al-Azeez] will know that I did not betray him in [his] absence and that Allah does not guide the plan of betrayers. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 52)
Tafsir
53

۞ وَمَآ اُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِيْۚ اِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَاَمَّارَةٌ ۢ بِالسُّوْۤءِ اِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّيْۗ اِنَّ رَبِّيْ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ٥٣

wamā
وَمَآ
"And not
ubarri-u
أُبَرِّئُ
I absolve
nafsī
نَفْسِىٓۚ
myself
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-nafsa
ٱلنَّفْسَ
the soul
la-ammāratun
لَأَمَّارَةٌۢ
(is) a certain enjoiner
bil-sūi
بِٱلسُّوٓءِ
of evil
illā
إِلَّا
unless
مَا
[that]
raḥima
رَحِمَ
bestows Mercy
rabbī
رَبِّىٓۚ
my Lord
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
rabbī
رَبِّى
my Lord
ghafūrun
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
raḥīmun
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful"
And I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 53)
Tafsir
54

وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ ائْتُوْنِيْ بِهٖٓ اَسْتَخْلِصْهُ لِنَفْسِيْۚ فَلَمَّا كَلَّمَهٗ قَالَ اِنَّكَ الْيَوْمَ لَدَيْنَا مَكِيْنٌ اَمِيْنٌ ٥٤

waqāla
وَقَالَ
And said
l-maliku
ٱلْمَلِكُ
the king
i'tūnī
ٱئْتُونِى
"Bring him to me
bihi
بِهِۦٓ
"Bring him to me
astakhliṣ'hu
أَسْتَخْلِصْهُ
I will select him
linafsī
لِنَفْسِىۖ
for myself"
falammā
فَلَمَّا
Then when
kallamahu
كَلَّمَهُۥ
he spoke to him
qāla
قَالَ
he said
innaka
إِنَّكَ
"Indeed, you
l-yawma
ٱلْيَوْمَ
(are) today
ladaynā
لَدَيْنَا
with us
makīnun
مَكِينٌ
firmly established
amīnun
أَمِينٌ
(and) trusted"
And the king said, "Bring him to me; I will appoint him exclusively for myself." And when he spoke to him, he said, "Indeed, you are today established [in position] and trusted." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 54)
Tafsir
55

قَالَ اجْعَلْنِيْ عَلٰى خَزَاۤىِٕنِ الْاَرْضِۚ اِنِّيْ حَفِيْظٌ عَلِيْمٌ ٥٥

qāla
قَالَ
He said
ij'ʿalnī
ٱجْعَلْنِى
"Appoint me
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
over
khazāini
خَزَآئِنِ
(the) treasuries
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِۖ
(of) the land
innī
إِنِّى
Indeed I
ḥafīẓun
حَفِيظٌ
(will be) a guardian
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌ
knowing"
[Joseph] said, "Appoint me over the storehouses of the land. Indeed, I will be a knowing guardian." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 55)
Tafsir
56

وَكَذٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوْسُفَ فِى الْاَرْضِ يَتَبَوَّاُ مِنْهَا حَيْثُ يَشَاۤءُۗ نُصِيْبُ بِرَحْمَتِنَا مَنْ نَّشَاۤءُ وَلَا نُضِيْعُ اَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ ٥٦

wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
makkannā
مَكَّنَّا
We established
liyūsufa
لِيُوسُفَ
[to] Yusuf
فِى
in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the land
yatabawwa-u
يَتَبَوَّأُ
to settle
min'hā
مِنْهَا
therein
ḥaythu
حَيْثُ
where ever
yashāu
يَشَآءُۚ
he willed
nuṣību
نُصِيبُ
We bestow
biraḥmatinā
بِرَحْمَتِنَا
Our Mercy
man
مَن
(on) whom
nashāu
نَّشَآءُۖ
We will
walā
وَلَا
And not
nuḍīʿu
نُضِيعُ
We let go waste
ajra
أَجْرَ
(the) reward
l-muḥ'sinīna
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
(of) the good-doers
And thus We established Joseph in the land to settle therein wherever he willed. We touch with Our mercy whom We will, and We do not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 56)
Tafsir
57

وَلَاَجْرُ الْاٰخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَكَانُوْا يَتَّقُوْنَ ࣖ ٥٧

wala-ajru
وَلَأَجْرُ
And surely (the) reward
l-ākhirati
ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
(of) the Hereafter
khayrun
خَيْرٌ
(is) better
lilladhīna
لِّلَّذِينَ
for those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe
wakānū
وَكَانُوا۟
and are
yattaqūna
يَتَّقُونَ
God conscious
And the reward of the Hereafter is better for those who believed and were fearing Allah. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 57)
Tafsir
58

وَجَاۤءَ اِخْوَةُ يُوْسُفَ فَدَخَلُوْا عَلَيْهِ فَعَرَفَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهٗ مُنْكِرُوْنَ ٥٨

wajāa
وَجَآءَ
And came
ikh'watu
إِخْوَةُ
(the) brothers
yūsufa
يُوسُفَ
(of) Yusuf
fadakhalū
فَدَخَلُوا۟
and they entered
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
upon him
faʿarafahum
فَعَرَفَهُمْ
and he recognized them
wahum
وَهُمْ
but they
lahu
لَهُۥ
knew him not
munkirūna
مُنكِرُونَ
knew him not
And the brothers of Joseph came [seeking food], and they entered upon him; and he recognized them, but he was to them unknown. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 58)
Tafsir
59

وَلَمَّا جَهَّزَهُمْ بِجَهَازِهِمْ قَالَ ائْتُوْنِيْ بِاَخٍ لَّكُمْ مِّنْ اَبِيْكُمْ ۚ اَلَا تَرَوْنَ اَنِّيْٓ اُوْفِى الْكَيْلَ وَاَنَا۠ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِيْنَ ٥٩

walammā
وَلَمَّا
And when
jahhazahum
جَهَّزَهُم
he had furnished them
bijahāzihim
بِجَهَازِهِمْ
with their supplies
qāla
قَالَ
he said
i'tūnī
ٱئْتُونِى
"Bring to me
bi-akhin
بِأَخٍ
a brother
lakum
لَّكُم
of yours
min
مِّنْ
from
abīkum
أَبِيكُمْۚ
your father
alā
أَلَا
Do not
tarawna
تَرَوْنَ
you see
annī
أَنِّىٓ
that I
ūfī
أُوفِى
[I] give full
l-kayla
ٱلْكَيْلَ
[the] measure
wa-anā
وَأَنَا۠
and that I am
khayru
خَيْرُ
(the) best
l-munzilīna
ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ
(of) the hosts?
And when he had furnished them with their supplies, he said, "Bring me a brother of yours from your father. Do you not see that I give full measure and that I am the best of accommodators? (QS. [12] Yusuf: 59)
Tafsir
60

فَاِنْ لَّمْ تَأْتُوْنِيْ بِهٖ فَلَا كَيْلَ لَكُمْ عِنْدِيْ وَلَا تَقْرَبُوْنِ ٦٠

fa-in
فَإِن
But if
lam
لَّمْ
not
tatūnī
تَأْتُونِى
you bring him to me
bihi
بِهِۦ
you bring him to me
falā
فَلَا
then (there will be) no
kayla
كَيْلَ
measure
lakum
لَكُمْ
for you
ʿindī
عِندِى
from me
walā
وَلَا
and not
taqrabūni
تَقْرَبُونِ
you will come near me"
But if you do not bring him to me, no measure will there be [hereafter] for you from me, nor will you approach me." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 60)
