فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ بِمَكْرِهِنَّ اَرْسَلَتْ اِلَيْهِنَّ وَاَعْتَدَتْ لَهُنَّ مُتَّكَاً وَّاٰتَتْ كُلَّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِّنْهُنَّ سِكِّيْنًا وَّقَالَتِ اخْرُجْ عَلَيْهِنَّ ۚ فَلَمَّا رَاَيْنَهٗٓ اَكْبَرْنَهٗ وَقَطَّعْنَ اَيْدِيَهُنَّۖ وَقُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلّٰهِ مَا هٰذَا بَشَرًاۗ اِنْ هٰذَآ اِلَّا مَلَكٌ كَرِيْمٌ ٣١
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- So when
- samiʿat
- سَمِعَتْ
- she heard
- bimakrihinna
- بِمَكْرِهِنَّ
- of their scheming
- arsalat
- أَرْسَلَتْ
- she sent
- ilayhinna
- إِلَيْهِنَّ
- for them
- wa-aʿtadat
- وَأَعْتَدَتْ
- and she prepared
- lahunna
- لَهُنَّ
- for them
- muttaka-an
- مُتَّكَـًٔا
- a banquet
- waātat
- وَءَاتَتْ
- and she gave
- kulla
- كُلَّ
- each
- wāḥidatin
- وَٰحِدَةٍ
- one
- min'hunna
- مِّنْهُنَّ
- of them
- sikkīnan
- سِكِّينًا
- a knife
- waqālati
- وَقَالَتِ
- and she said
- ukh'ruj
- ٱخْرُجْ
- "Come out
- ʿalayhinna
- عَلَيْهِنَّۖ
- before them"
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- Then when
- ra-aynahu
- رَأَيْنَهُۥٓ
- they saw him
- akbarnahu
- أَكْبَرْنَهُۥ
- they greatly admired him
- waqaṭṭaʿna
- وَقَطَّعْنَ
- and cut
- aydiyahunna
- أَيْدِيَهُنَّ
- their hands
- waqul'na
- وَقُلْنَ
- they said
- ḥāsha
- حَٰشَ
- "Forbid
- lillahi
- لِلَّهِ
- Allah
- mā
- مَا
- not
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- (is) this
- basharan
- بَشَرًا
- a man
- in
- إِنْ
- not
- hādhā
- هَٰذَآ
- (is) this
- illā
- إِلَّا
- but
- malakun
- مَلَكٌ
- an angel
- karīmun
- كَرِيمٌ
- noble"
So when she heard of their scheming, she sent for them and prepared for them a banquet and gave each one of them a knife and said [to Joseph], "Come out before them." And when they saw him, they greatly admired him and cut their hands and said, "Perfect is Allah! This is not a man; this is none but a noble angel." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 31)Tafsir
قَالَتْ فَذٰلِكُنَّ الَّذِيْ لُمْتُنَّنِيْ فِيْهِ ۗوَلَقَدْ رَاوَدْتُّهٗ عَنْ نَّفْسِهٖ فَاسْتَعْصَمَ ۗوَلَىِٕنْ لَّمْ يَفْعَلْ مَآ اٰمُرُهٗ لَيُسْجَنَنَّ وَلَيَكُوْنًا مِّنَ الصّٰغِرِيْنَ ٣٢
- qālat
- قَالَتْ
- She said
- fadhālikunna
- فَذَٰلِكُنَّ
- "That
- alladhī
- ٱلَّذِى
- (is) the one
- lum'tunnanī
- لُمْتُنَّنِى
- you blamed me
- fīhi
- فِيهِۖ
- about him
- walaqad
- وَلَقَدْ
- And certainly
- rāwadttuhu
- رَٰوَدتُّهُۥ
- I sought to seduce him
- ʿan
- عَن
- [from]
- nafsihi
- نَّفْسِهِۦ
- [himself]
- fa-is'taʿṣama
- فَٱسْتَعْصَمَۖ
- but he saved himself
- wala-in
- وَلَئِن
- and if
- lam
- لَّمْ
- not
- yafʿal
- يَفْعَلْ
- he does
- mā
- مَآ
- what
- āmuruhu
- ءَامُرُهُۥ
- I order him
- layus'jananna
- لَيُسْجَنَنَّ
- surely he will be imprisoned
- walayakūnan
- وَلَيَكُونًا
- and certainly will be
- mina
- مِّنَ
- of
- l-ṣāghirīna
- ٱلصَّٰغِرِينَ
- those who are disgraced
She said, "That is the one about whom you blamed me. And I certainly sought to seduce him, but he firmly refused; and if he will not do what I order him, he will surely be imprisoned and will be of those debased." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 32)Tafsir
قَالَ رَبِّ السِّجْنُ اَحَبُّ اِلَيَّ مِمَّا يَدْعُوْنَنِيْٓ اِلَيْهِ ۚوَاِلَّا تَصْرِفْ عَنِّيْ كَيْدَهُنَّ اَصْبُ اِلَيْهِنَّ وَاَكُنْ مِّنَ الْجٰهِلِيْنَ ٣٣
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- rabbi
- رَبِّ
- "My Lord
- l-sij'nu
- ٱلسِّجْنُ
- the prison
- aḥabbu
- أَحَبُّ
- (is) dearer
- ilayya
- إِلَىَّ
- to me
- mimmā
- مِمَّا
- than what
- yadʿūnanī
- يَدْعُونَنِىٓ
- they invite me
- ilayhi
- إِلَيْهِۖ
- to it
- wa-illā
- وَإِلَّا
- And unless
- taṣrif
- تَصْرِفْ
- You turn away
- ʿannī
- عَنِّى
- from me
- kaydahunna
- كَيْدَهُنَّ
- their plot
- aṣbu
- أَصْبُ
- I might incline
- ilayhinna
- إِلَيْهِنَّ
- towards them
- wa-akun
- وَأَكُن
- and [I] be
- mina
- مِّنَ
- of
- l-jāhilīna
- ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ
- the ignorant"
He said, "My Lord, prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. And if You do not avert from me their plan, I might incline toward them and [thus] be of the ignorant." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 33)Tafsir
فَاسْتَجَابَ لَهٗ رَبُّهٗ فَصَرَفَ عَنْهُ كَيْدَهُنَّ ۗاِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِيْعُ الْعَلِيْمُ ٣٤
- fa-is'tajāba
- فَٱسْتَجَابَ
- So responded
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- to him
- rabbuhu
- رَبُّهُۥ
- his Lord
- faṣarafa
- فَصَرَفَ
- and turned away
- ʿanhu
- عَنْهُ
- from him
- kaydahunna
- كَيْدَهُنَّۚ
- their plot
- innahu
- إِنَّهُۥ
- Indeed [He]
- huwa
- هُوَ
- He
- l-samīʿu
- ٱلسَّمِيعُ
- (is) All-Hearer
- l-ʿalīmu
- ٱلْعَلِيمُ
- All-Knower
So his Lord responded to him and averted from him their plan. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 34)Tafsir
ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِ مَا رَاَوُا الْاٰيٰتِ لَيَسْجُنُنَّهٗ حَتّٰى حِيْنٍ ࣖ ٣٥
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- Then
- badā
- بَدَا
- (it) appeared
- lahum
- لَهُم
- to them
- min
- مِّنۢ
- after
- baʿdi
- بَعْدِ
- after
- mā
- مَا
- [what]
- ra-awū
- رَأَوُا۟
- they had seen
- l-āyāti
- ٱلْءَايَٰتِ
- the signs
- layasjununnahu
- لَيَسْجُنُنَّهُۥ
- surely they should imprison him
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- until
- ḥīnin
- حِينٍ
- a time
Then it appeared to them after they had seen the signs that he [i.e., al-Azeez] should surely imprison him for a time. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 35)Tafsir
وَدَخَلَ مَعَهُ السِّجْنَ فَتَيٰنِ ۗقَالَ اَحَدُهُمَآ اِنِّيْٓ اَرٰىنِيْٓ اَعْصِرُ خَمْرًا ۚوَقَالَ الْاٰخَرُ اِنِّيْٓ اَرٰىنِيْٓ اَحْمِلُ فَوْقَ رَأْسِيْ خُبْزًا تَأْكُلُ الطَّيْرُ مِنْهُ ۗنَبِّئْنَا بِتَأْوِيْلِهٖ ۚاِنَّا نَرٰىكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ ٣٦
- wadakhala
- وَدَخَلَ
- And entered
- maʿahu
- مَعَهُ
- with him
- l-sij'na
- ٱلسِّجْنَ
- (in) the prison
- fatayāni
- فَتَيَانِۖ
- two young men
- qāla
- قَالَ
- Said
- aḥaduhumā
- أَحَدُهُمَآ
- one of them
- innī
- إِنِّىٓ
- "Indeed I
- arānī
- أَرَىٰنِىٓ
- [I] see myself
- aʿṣiru
- أَعْصِرُ
- pressing
- khamran
- خَمْرًاۖ
- wine"
- waqāla
- وَقَالَ
- And said
- l-ākharu
- ٱلْءَاخَرُ
- the other
- innī
- إِنِّىٓ
- "Indeed I
- arānī
- أَرَىٰنِىٓ
- [I] see myself
- aḥmilu
- أَحْمِلُ
- [I am] carrying
- fawqa
- فَوْقَ
- over
- rasī
- رَأْسِى
- my head
- khub'zan
- خُبْزًا
- bread
- takulu
- تَأْكُلُ
- (were) eating
- l-ṭayru
- ٱلطَّيْرُ
- the birds
- min'hu
- مِنْهُۖ
- from it
- nabbi'nā
- نَبِّئْنَا
- Inform us
- bitawīlihi
- بِتَأْوِيلِهِۦٓۖ
- of its interpretation;
- innā
- إِنَّا
- indeed we
- narāka
- نَرَىٰكَ
- [we] see you
- mina
- مِنَ
- of
- l-muḥ'sinīna
- ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
- the good-doers"
And there entered the prison with him two young men. One of them said, "Indeed, I have seen myself [in a dream] pressing [grapes for] wine." The other said, "Indeed, I have seen myself carrying upon my head [some] bread, from which the birds were eating. Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you to be of those who do good." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 36)Tafsir
قَالَ لَا يَأْتِيْكُمَا طَعَامٌ تُرْزَقٰنِهٖٓ اِلَّا نَبَّأْتُكُمَا بِتَأْوِيْلِهٖ قَبْلَ اَنْ يَّأْتِيَكُمَا ۗذٰلِكُمَا مِمَّا عَلَّمَنِيْ رَبِّيْۗ اِنِّيْ تَرَكْتُ مِلَّةَ قَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَهُمْ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ هُمْ كٰفِرُوْنَۙ ٣٧

- قَالَ
- He said
- lā
- لَا
- "Not
- yatīkumā
- يَأْتِيكُمَا
- (will) come to both of you
- ṭaʿāmun
- طَعَامٌ
- food
- tur'zaqānihi
- تُرْزَقَانِهِۦٓ
- you are provided with
- illā
- إِلَّا
- but
- nabbatukumā
- نَبَّأْتُكُمَا
- I will inform both of you
- bitawīlihi
- بِتَأْوِيلِهِۦ
- of its interpretation
- qabla
- قَبْلَ
- before
- an
- أَن
- [that]
- yatiyakumā
- يَأْتِيَكُمَاۚ
- [it] comes to both of you
- dhālikumā
- ذَٰلِكُمَا
- That
- mimmā
- مِمَّا
- (is) of what
- ʿallamanī
- عَلَّمَنِى
- has taught me
- rabbī
- رَبِّىٓۚ
- my Lord
- innī
- إِنِّى
- Indeed I
- taraktu
- تَرَكْتُ
- [I] abandon
- millata
- مِلَّةَ
- (the) religion
- qawmin
- قَوْمٍ
- (of) a people
- lā
- لَّا
- not
- yu'minūna
- يُؤْمِنُونَ
- they believe
- bil-lahi
- بِٱللَّهِ
- in Allah
- wahum
- وَهُم
- and they
- bil-ākhirati
- بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
- in the Hereafter
- hum
- هُمْ
- [they]
- kāfirūna
- كَٰفِرُونَ
- (are) disbelievers
He said, "You will not receive food that is provided to you except that I will inform you of its interpretation before it comes to you. That is from what my Lord has taught me. Indeed, I have left the religion of a people who do not believe in Allah, and they, in the Hereafter, are disbelievers. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 37)Tafsir
وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ اٰبَاۤءِيْٓ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ وَاِسْحٰقَ وَيَعْقُوْبَۗ مَا كَانَ لَنَآ اَنْ نُّشْرِكَ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍۗ ذٰلِكَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى النَّاسِ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُوْنَ ٣٨
- wa-ittabaʿtu
- وَٱتَّبَعْتُ
- And I follow
- millata
- مِلَّةَ
- (the) religion
- ābāī
- ءَابَآءِىٓ
- (of) my forefathers
- ib'rāhīma
- إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
- Ibrahim
- wa-is'ḥāqa
- وَإِسْحَٰقَ
- and Ishaq
- wayaʿqūba
- وَيَعْقُوبَۚ
- and Yaqub
- mā
- مَا
- Not
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- lanā
- لَنَآ
- for us
- an
- أَن
- that
- nush'rika
- نُّشْرِكَ
- we associate
- bil-lahi
- بِٱللَّهِ
- with Allah
- min
- مِن
- any
- shayin
- شَىْءٍۚ
- thing
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- That
- min
- مِن
- (is) from
- faḍli
- فَضْلِ
- (the) Grace
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- ʿalaynā
- عَلَيْنَا
- upon us
- waʿalā
- وَعَلَى
- and upon
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- the mankind
- walākinna
- وَلَٰكِنَّ
- but
- akthara
- أَكْثَرَ
- most
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- (of) the men
- lā
- لَا
- (are) not
- yashkurūna
- يَشْكُرُونَ
- grateful
And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And it was not for us to associate anything with Allah. That is from the favor of Allah upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 38)Tafsir
يٰصَاحِبَيِ السِّجْنِ ءَاَرْبَابٌ مُتَفَرِّقُوْنَ خَيْرٌ اَمِ اللّٰهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُۗ ٣٩
- yāṣāḥibayi
- يَٰصَىٰحِبَىِ
- O my two companions
- l-sij'ni
- ٱلسِّجْنِ
- (of) the prison!
- a-arbābun
- ءَأَرْبَابٌ
- Are lords
- mutafarriqūna
- مُّتَفَرِّقُونَ
- separate
- khayrun
- خَيْرٌ
- better
- ami
- أَمِ
- or
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- l-wāḥidu
- ٱلْوَٰحِدُ
- the One
- l-qahāru
- ٱلْقَهَّارُ
- the Irresistible?
O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords better or Allah, the One, the Prevailing? (QS. [12] Yusuf: 39)Tafsir
مَا تَعْبُدُوْنَ مِنْ دُوْنِهٖٓ اِلَّآ اَسْمَاۤءً سَمَّيْتُمُوْهَآ اَنْتُمْ وَاٰبَاۤؤُكُمْ مَّآ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطٰنٍۗ اِنِ الْحُكْمُ اِلَّا لِلّٰهِ ۗاَمَرَ اَلَّا تَعْبُدُوْٓا اِلَّآ اِيَّاهُ ۗذٰلِكَ الدِّيْنُ الْقَيِّمُ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ٤٠

- taʿbudūna
- تَعْبُدُونَ
- you worship
- min
- مِن
- besides Him
- dūnihi
- دُونِهِۦٓ
- besides Him
- illā
- إِلَّآ
- but
- asmāan
- أَسْمَآءً
- names
- sammaytumūhā
- سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ
- which you have named them
- antum
- أَنتُمْ
- you
- waābāukum
- وَءَابَآؤُكُم
- and your forefathers
- mā
- مَّآ
- not
- anzala
- أَنزَلَ
- (has) sent down
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- bihā
- بِهَا
- for it
- min
- مِن
- any
- sul'ṭānin
- سُلْطَٰنٍۚ
- authority
- ini
- إِنِ
- Not
- l-ḥuk'mu
- ٱلْحُكْمُ
- (is) the command
- illā
- إِلَّا
- but
- lillahi
- لِلَّهِۚ
- for Allah
- amara
- أَمَرَ
- He has commanded
- allā
- أَلَّا
- that not
- taʿbudū
- تَعْبُدُوٓا۟
- you worship
- illā
- إِلَّآ
- but
- iyyāhu
- إِيَّاهُۚ
- Him Alone
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- That
- l-dīnu
- ٱلدِّينُ
- (is) the religion
- l-qayimu
- ٱلْقَيِّمُ
- the right
- walākinna
- وَلَٰكِنَّ
- but
- akthara
- أَكْثَرَ
- most
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- [the] men
- lā
- لَا
- (do) not
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- know
You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no evidence. Legislation is not but for Allah. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 40)Tafsir
