قَالُوْا يٰٓاَبَانَا مَالَكَ لَا تَأْمَنَّ۫ا عَلٰى يُوْسُفَ وَاِنَّا لَهٗ لَنَاصِحُوْنَ ١١
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- yāabānā
- يَٰٓأَبَانَا
- "O our father!
- mā
- مَا
- Why
- laka
- لَكَ
- (do) you
- lā
- لَا
- not
- tamannā
- تَأْمَ۫نَّا
- trust us
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- with
- yūsufa
- يُوسُفَ
- Yusuf
- wa-innā
- وَإِنَّا
- while indeed we
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- (are) for him
- lanāṣiḥūna
- لَنَٰصِحُونَ
- surely well-wishers?
They said, "O our father, why do you not entrust us with Joseph while indeed, we are to him sincere counselors? (QS. [12] Yusuf: 11)Tafsir
اَرْسِلْهُ مَعَنَا غَدًا يَّرْتَعْ وَيَلْعَبْ وَاِنَّا لَهٗ لَحٰفِظُوْنَ ١٢
- arsil'hu
- أَرْسِلْهُ
- Send him
- maʿanā
- مَعَنَا
- with us
- ghadan
- غَدًا
- tomorrow
- yartaʿ
- يَرْتَعْ
- (to) enjoy
- wayalʿab
- وَيَلْعَبْ
- and play
- wa-innā
- وَإِنَّا
- And indeed, we
- lahu
- لَهُۥ
- for him"
- laḥāfiẓūna
- لَحَٰفِظُونَ
- (will) surely (be) guardians"
Send him with us tomorrow that he may eat well and play. And indeed, we will be his guardians." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 12)Tafsir
قَالَ اِنِّيْ لَيَحْزُنُنِيْٓ اَنْ تَذْهَبُوْا بِهٖ وَاَخَافُ اَنْ يَّأْكُلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَاَنْتُمْ عَنْهُ غٰفِلُوْنَ ١٣
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- innī
- إِنِّى
- "Indeed, [I]
- layaḥzununī
- لَيَحْزُنُنِىٓ
- it surely saddens me
- an
- أَن
- that
- tadhhabū
- تَذْهَبُوا۟
- you should take him
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- you should take him
- wa-akhāfu
- وَأَخَافُ
- and I fear
- an
- أَن
- that
- yakulahu
- يَأْكُلَهُ
- would eat him
- l-dhi'bu
- ٱلذِّئْبُ
- a wolf
- wa-antum
- وَأَنتُمْ
- while you
- ʿanhu
- عَنْهُ
- of him
- ghāfilūna
- غَٰفِلُونَ
- (are) unaware"
[Jacob] said, "Indeed, it saddens me that you should take him, and I fear that a wolf would eat him while you are of him unaware." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 13)Tafsir
قَالُوْا لَىِٕنْ اَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ اِنَّآ اِذًا لَّخٰسِرُوْنَ ١٤
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- la-in
- لَئِنْ
- "If
- akalahu
- أَكَلَهُ
- eats him
- l-dhi'bu
- ٱلذِّئْبُ
- the wolf
- wanaḥnu
- وَنَحْنُ
- while we
- ʿuṣ'batun
- عُصْبَةٌ
- (are) a group
- innā
- إِنَّآ
- indeed we
- idhan
- إِذًا
- then
- lakhāsirūna
- لَّخَٰسِرُونَ
- surely (would be) losers"
They said, "If a wolf should eat him while we are a [strong] clan, indeed, we would then be losers." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 14)Tafsir
فَلَمَّا ذَهَبُوْا بِهٖ وَاَجْمَعُوْٓا اَنْ يَّجْعَلُوْهُ فِيْ غَيٰبَتِ الْجُبِّۚ وَاَوْحَيْنَآ اِلَيْهِ لَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُمْ بِاَمْرِهِمْ هٰذَا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُوْنَ ١٥
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- So when
- dhahabū
- ذَهَبُوا۟
- they took him
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- they took him
- wa-ajmaʿū
- وَأَجْمَعُوٓا۟
- and agreed
- an
- أَن
- that
- yajʿalūhu
- يَجْعَلُوهُ
- they put him
- fī
- فِى
- in
- ghayābati
- غَيَٰبَتِ
- (the) bottom
- l-jubi
- ٱلْجُبِّۚ
- (of) the well
- wa-awḥaynā
- وَأَوْحَيْنَآ
- But We inspired
- ilayhi
- إِلَيْهِ
- to him
- latunabbi-annahum
- لَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُم
- "Surely, you will inform them
- bi-amrihim
- بِأَمْرِهِمْ
- about this affair
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- about this affair
- wahum
- وَهُمْ
- while they
- lā
- لَا
- (do) not
- yashʿurūna
- يَشْعُرُونَ
- perceive"
So when they took him [out] and agreed to put him into the bottom of the well... But We inspired to him, "You will surely inform them [someday] about this affair of theirs while they do not perceive [your identity]." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 15)Tafsir
وَجَاۤءُوْٓ اَبَاهُمْ عِشَاۤءً يَّبْكُوْنَۗ ١٦
- wajāū
- وَجَآءُوٓ
- And they came
- abāhum
- أَبَاهُمْ
- (to) their father
- ʿishāan
- عِشَآءً
- early at night
- yabkūna
- يَبْكُونَ
- weeping
And they came to their father at night, weeping. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 16)Tafsir
قَالُوْا يٰٓاَبَانَآ اِنَّا ذَهَبْنَا نَسْتَبِقُ وَتَرَكْنَا يُوْسُفَ عِنْدَ مَتَاعِنَا فَاَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُۚ وَمَآ اَنْتَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ لَّنَا وَلَوْ كُنَّا صٰدِقِيْنَ ١٧
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- yāabānā
- يَٰٓأَبَانَآ
- "O our father!
- innā
- إِنَّا
- Indeed we
- dhahabnā
- ذَهَبْنَا
- [we] went
- nastabiqu
- نَسْتَبِقُ
- racing each other
- wataraknā
- وَتَرَكْنَا
- and we left
- yūsufa
- يُوسُفَ
- Yusuf
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- with
- matāʿinā
- مَتَٰعِنَا
- our possessions
- fa-akalahu
- فَأَكَلَهُ
- and ate him
- l-dhi'bu
- ٱلذِّئْبُۖ
- the wolf
- wamā
- وَمَآ
- But not
- anta
- أَنتَ
- you
- bimu'minin
- بِمُؤْمِنٍ
- (will) believe
- lanā
- لَّنَا
- us
- walaw
- وَلَوْ
- even if
- kunnā
- كُنَّا
- we are
- ṣādiqīna
- صَٰدِقِينَ
- truthful"
They said, "O our father, indeed we went racing each other and left Joseph with our possessions, and a wolf ate him. But you would not believe us, even if we were truthful." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 17)Tafsir
وَجَاۤءُوْ عَلٰى قَمِيْصِهٖ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍۗ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ اَنْفُسُكُمْ اَمْرًاۗ فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيْلٌ ۗوَاللّٰهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلٰى مَا تَصِفُوْنَ ١٨
- wajāū
- وَجَآءُو
- And they brought
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- upon
- qamīṣihi
- قَمِيصِهِۦ
- his shirt
- bidamin
- بِدَمٍ
- with false blood
- kadhibin
- كَذِبٍۚ
- with false blood
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- bal
- بَلْ
- "Nay
- sawwalat
- سَوَّلَتْ
- has enticed you
- lakum
- لَكُمْ
- has enticed you
- anfusukum
- أَنفُسُكُمْ
- your souls
- amran
- أَمْرًاۖ
- (to) a matter
- faṣabrun
- فَصَبْرٌ
- so patience
- jamīlun
- جَمِيلٌۖ
- (is) beautiful
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- l-mus'taʿānu
- ٱلْمُسْتَعَانُ
- (is) the One sought for help
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- against
- mā
- مَا
- what
- taṣifūna
- تَصِفُونَ
- you describe"
And they brought upon his shirt false blood. [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 18)Tafsir
وَجَاۤءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَاَرْسَلُوْا وَارِدَهُمْ فَاَدْلٰى دَلْوَهٗ ۗقَالَ يٰبُشْرٰى هٰذَا غُلٰمٌ ۗوَاَسَرُّوْهُ بِضَاعَةً ۗوَاللّٰهُ عَلِيْمٌ ۢبِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ١٩
- wajāat
- وَجَآءَتْ
- And there came
- sayyāratun
- سَيَّارَةٌ
- a caravan
- fa-arsalū
- فَأَرْسَلُوا۟
- and they sent
- wāridahum
- وَارِدَهُمْ
- their water drawer
- fa-adlā
- فَأَدْلَىٰ
- then he let down
- dalwahu
- دَلْوَهُۥۖ
- his bucket
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- yābush'rā
- يَٰبُشْرَىٰ
- "O good news!
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- This
- ghulāmun
- غُلَٰمٌۚ
- (is) a boy"
- wa-asarrūhu
- وَأَسَرُّوهُ
- And they hid him
- biḍāʿatan
- بِضَٰعَةًۚ
- (as) a merchandise
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- ʿalīmun
- عَلِيمٌۢ
- (is) All- Knower
- bimā
- بِمَا
- of what
- yaʿmalūna
- يَعْمَلُونَ
- they do
And there came a company of travelers; then they sent their water drawer, and he let down his bucket. He said, "Good news! Here is a boy." And they concealed him, [taking him] as merchandise; and Allah was Knowing of what they did. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 19)Tafsir
وَشَرَوْهُ بِثَمَنٍۢ بَخْسٍ دَرَاهِمَ مَعْدُوْدَةٍ ۚوَكَانُوْا فِيْهِ مِنَ الزَّاهِدِيْنَ ࣖ ٢٠
- washarawhu
- وَشَرَوْهُ
- And they sold him
- bithamanin
- بِثَمَنٍۭ
- for a price
- bakhsin
- بَخْسٍ
- very low
- darāhima
- دَرَٰهِمَ
- dirhams
- maʿdūdatin
- مَعْدُودَةٍ
- few
- wakānū
- وَكَانُوا۟
- and they were
- fīhi
- فِيهِ
- about him
- mina
- مِنَ
- of
- l-zāhidīna
- ٱلزَّٰهِدِينَ
- those keen to give up
And they sold him for a reduced price – a few dirhams – and they were, concerning him, of those content with little. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 20)Tafsir
