الۤرٰ ۗ تِلْكَ اٰيٰتُ الْكِتٰبِ الْمُبِيْنِۗ ١

- Alif Laam Ra
- til'ka
- تِلْكَ
- These
- āyātu
- ءَايَٰتُ
- (are the) Verses
- l-kitābi
- ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- (of) the Book
- l-mubīni
- ٱلْمُبِينِ
- [the] clear
Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 1)Tafsir
اِنَّآ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ قُرْاٰنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُوْنَ ٢
- innā
- إِنَّآ
- Indeed, We
- anzalnāhu
- أَنزَلْنَٰهُ
- We have sent it down
- qur'ānan
- قُرْءَٰنًا
- (as) a Quran in Arabic
- ʿarabiyyan
- عَرَبِيًّا
- (as) a Quran in Arabic
- laʿallakum
- لَّعَلَّكُمْ
- so that you may
- taʿqilūna
- تَعْقِلُونَ
- understand
Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran that you might understand. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 2)Tafsir
نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ اَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَآ اَوْحَيْنَآ اِلَيْكَ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَۖ وَاِنْ كُنْتَ مِنْ قَبْلِهٖ لَمِنَ الْغٰفِلِيْنَ ٣
- naḥnu
- نَحْنُ
- We
- naquṣṣu
- نَقُصُّ
- relate
- ʿalayka
- عَلَيْكَ
- to you
- aḥsana
- أَحْسَنَ
- the best
- l-qaṣaṣi
- ٱلْقَصَصِ
- of the narrations
- bimā
- بِمَآ
- in what
- awḥaynā
- أَوْحَيْنَآ
- We have revealed
- ilayka
- إِلَيْكَ
- to you
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- (of) this
- l-qur'āna
- ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
- the Quran
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- although
- kunta
- كُنتَ
- you were
- min
- مِن
- before it
- qablihi
- قَبْلِهِۦ
- before it
- lamina
- لَمِنَ
- surely among
- l-ghāfilīna
- ٱلْغَٰفِلِينَ
- the unaware
We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Quran although you were, before it, among the unaware. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 3)Tafsir
اِذْ قَالَ يُوْسُفُ لِاَبِيْهِ يٰٓاَبَتِ اِنِّيْ رَاَيْتُ اَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَّالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَاَيْتُهُمْ لِيْ سٰجِدِيْنَ ٤
- idh
- إِذْ
- When
- qāla
- قَالَ
- said
- yūsufu
- يُوسُفُ
- Yusuf
- li-abīhi
- لِأَبِيهِ
- to his father
- yāabati
- يَٰٓأَبَتِ
- "O my father!
- innī
- إِنِّى
- Indeed, I
- ra-aytu
- رَأَيْتُ
- I saw
- aḥada
- أَحَدَ
- eleven
- ʿashara
- عَشَرَ
- eleven
- kawkaban
- كَوْكَبًا
- star(s)
- wal-shamsa
- وَٱلشَّمْسَ
- and the sun
- wal-qamara
- وَٱلْقَمَرَ
- and the moon
- ra-aytuhum
- رَأَيْتُهُمْ
- I saw them
- lī
- لِى
- to me
- sājidīna
- سَٰجِدِينَ
- prostrating"
[Of these stories mention] when Joseph said to his father, "O my father, indeed I have seen [in a dream] eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 4)Tafsir
قَالَ يٰبُنَيَّ لَا تَقْصُصْ رُءْيَاكَ عَلٰٓى اِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيْدُوْا لَكَ كَيْدًا ۗاِنَّ الشَّيْطٰنَ لِلْاِنْسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِيْنٌ ٥
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- yābunayya
- يَٰبُنَىَّ
- "O my son!
- lā
- لَا
- (Do) not
- taqṣuṣ
- تَقْصُصْ
- relate
- ru'yāka
- رُءْيَاكَ
- your vision
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰٓ
- to
- ikh'watika
- إِخْوَتِكَ
- your brothers
- fayakīdū
- فَيَكِيدُوا۟
- lest they plan
- laka
- لَكَ
- against you
- kaydan
- كَيْدًاۖ
- a plot
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-shayṭāna
- ٱلشَّيْطَٰنَ
- the Shaitaan
- lil'insāni
- لِلْإِنسَٰنِ
- (is) to man
- ʿaduwwun
- عَدُوٌّ
- an enemy
- mubīnun
- مُّبِينٌ
- open
He said, "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 5)Tafsir
وَكَذٰلِكَ يَجْتَبِيْكَ رَبُّكَ وَيُعَلِّمُكَ مِنْ تَأْوِيْلِ الْاَحَادِيْثِ وَيُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهٗ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلٰٓى اٰلِ يَعْقُوْبَ كَمَآ اَتَمَّهَا عَلٰٓى اَبَوَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ وَاِسْحٰقَۗ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ عَلِيْمٌ حَكِيْمٌ ࣖ ٦
- wakadhālika
- وَكَذَٰلِكَ
- And thus
- yajtabīka
- يَجْتَبِيكَ
- will choose you
- rabbuka
- رَبُّكَ
- your Lord
- wayuʿallimuka
- وَيُعَلِّمُكَ
- and will teach you
- min
- مِن
- of
- tawīli
- تَأْوِيلِ
- (the) interpretation
- l-aḥādīthi
- ٱلْأَحَادِيثِ
- (of) the narratives
- wayutimmu
- وَيُتِمُّ
- and complete
- niʿ'matahu
- نِعْمَتَهُۥ
- His Favor
- ʿalayka
- عَلَيْكَ
- on you
- waʿalā
- وَعَلَىٰٓ
- and on
- āli
- ءَالِ
- (the) family
- yaʿqūba
- يَعْقُوبَ
- (of) Yaqub
- kamā
- كَمَآ
- as
- atammahā
- أَتَمَّهَا
- He completed it
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰٓ
- on
- abawayka
- أَبَوَيْكَ
- your two forefathers
- min
- مِن
- before
- qablu
- قَبْلُ
- before
- ib'rāhīma
- إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
- Ibrahim
- wa-is'ḥāqa
- وَإِسْحَٰقَۚ
- and Ishaq
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- rabbaka
- رَبَّكَ
- your Lord
- ʿalīmun
- عَلِيمٌ
- (is) All-Knower
- ḥakīmun
- حَكِيمٌ
- All-Wise"
And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of narratives [i.e., events or dreams] and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He completed it upon your fathers before, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 6)Tafsir
۞ لَقَدْ كَانَ فِيْ يُوْسُفَ وَاِخْوَتِهٖٓ اٰيٰتٌ لِّلسَّاۤىِٕلِيْنَ ٧
- laqad
- لَّقَدْ
- Certainly
- kāna
- كَانَ
- were
- fī
- فِى
- in
- yūsufa
- يُوسُفَ
- Yusuf
- wa-ikh'watihi
- وَإِخْوَتِهِۦٓ
- and his brothers
- āyātun
- ءَايَٰتٌ
- signs
- lilssāilīna
- لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ
- for those who ask
Certainly were there in Joseph and his brothers signs for those who ask, [such as] (QS. [12] Yusuf: 7)Tafsir
اِذْ قَالُوْا لَيُوْسُفُ وَاَخُوْهُ اَحَبُّ اِلٰٓى اَبِيْنَا مِنَّا وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ ۗاِنَّ اَبَانَا لَفِيْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍۙ ٨
- idh
- إِذْ
- When
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- they said
- layūsufu
- لَيُوسُفُ
- "Surely Yusuf
- wa-akhūhu
- وَأَخُوهُ
- and his brother
- aḥabbu
- أَحَبُّ
- (are) more beloved
- ilā
- إِلَىٰٓ
- to
- abīnā
- أَبِينَا
- our father
- minnā
- مِنَّا
- than we
- wanaḥnu
- وَنَحْنُ
- while we
- ʿuṣ'batun
- عُصْبَةٌ
- (are) a group
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- abānā
- أَبَانَا
- our father
- lafī
- لَفِى
- (is) surely in
- ḍalālin
- ضَلَٰلٍ
- an error
- mubīnin
- مُّبِينٍ
- clear
When they said, "Joseph and his brother are more beloved to our father than we, while we are a clan. Indeed, our father is in clear error. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 8)Tafsir
ۨاقْتُلُوْا يُوْسُفَ اَوِ اطْرَحُوْهُ اَرْضًا يَّخْلُ لَكُمْ وَجْهُ اَبِيْكُمْ وَتَكُوْنُوْا مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ قَوْمًا صٰلِحِيْنَ ٩
- uq'tulū
- ٱقْتُلُوا۟
- Kill
- yūsufa
- يُوسُفَ
- Yusuf
- awi
- أَوِ
- or
- iṭ'raḥūhu
- ٱطْرَحُوهُ
- cast him
- arḍan
- أَرْضًا
- (to) a land
- yakhlu
- يَخْلُ
- so will be free
- lakum
- لَكُمْ
- for you
- wajhu
- وَجْهُ
- (the) face
- abīkum
- أَبِيكُمْ
- (of) your father
- watakūnū
- وَتَكُونُوا۟
- and you will be
- min
- مِنۢ
- after that
- baʿdihi
- بَعْدِهِۦ
- after that
- qawman
- قَوْمًا
- a people
- ṣāliḥīna
- صَٰلِحِينَ
- righteous"
Kill Joseph or cast him out to [another] land; the countenance [i.e., attention] of your father will [then] be only for you, and you will be after that a righteous people." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 9)Tafsir
قَالَ قَاۤئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ لَا تَقْتُلُوْا يُوْسُفَ وَاَلْقُوْهُ فِيْ غَيٰبَتِ الْجُبِّ يَلْتَقِطْهُ بَعْضُ السَّيَّارَةِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ فٰعِلِيْنَ ١٠
- qāla
- قَالَ
- Said
- qāilun
- قَآئِلٌ
- a speaker
- min'hum
- مِّنْهُمْ
- among them
- lā
- لَا
- "(Do) not
- taqtulū
- تَقْتُلُوا۟
- kill
- yūsufa
- يُوسُفَ
- Yusuf
- wa-alqūhu
- وَأَلْقُوهُ
- but throw him
- fī
- فِى
- in
- ghayābati
- غَيَٰبَتِ
- the bottom
- l-jubi
- ٱلْجُبِّ
- (of) the well
- yaltaqiṭ'hu
- يَلْتَقِطْهُ
- will pick him
- baʿḍu
- بَعْضُ
- some
- l-sayārati
- ٱلسَّيَّارَةِ
- [the] caravan
- in
- إِن
- if
- kuntum
- كُنتُمْ
- you are
- fāʿilīna
- فَٰعِلِينَ
- doing"
Said a speaker among them, "Do not kill Joseph but throw him into the bottom of the well; some travelers will pick him up – if you would do [something]." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 10)Tafsir
