Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Masad Verse 4
Al-Masad [111]: 4 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَّامْرَاَتُهٗ ۗحَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِۚ (المسد : ١١١)
- wa-im'ra-atuhu
- وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ
- And his wife
- ḥammālata
- حَمَّالَةَ
- (the) carrier
- l-ḥaṭabi
- ٱلْحَطَبِ
- (of) firewood
Transliteration:
Wam ra-atuh hamma latal-hatab(QS. al-Masad:4)
English / Sahih Translation:
And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood. (QS. Al-Masad, ayah 4)

Tafsir jalalayn
and his wife (wa'mra'atuhu is a supplement to the person [of the verb] yasl, `he will enter', separated by the clause of the direct object and its qualification) -- and this was Umm Jaml -- the carrier (read hammlatu or hammlata) of firewood, cactus and thorns which she used to fling into the path of the Prophet (s).
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
And his wife too, who carries wood.
His wife was among the leading women of the Quraysh and she was known as Umm Jamil. Her name was Arwah bint Harb bin Umayyah and she was the sister of Abu Sufyan. She was supportive of her husband in his disbelief, rejection and obstinacy. Therefore, she will be helping to administer his punishment in the fire of Hell on the Day of Judgement.
Thus, Allah says,
حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ
فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍ
