Al-Qur'an Surah Hud Verse 92

He said, “O my people, is my clan more respectable to you than Allah, as you have taken Him as something thrown behind your backs? Surely, my Lord encompasses all that you do.

He said, ‘O my people! Is my tribe more formidable in your sight than Allah, to whom you pay no regard? Indeed my Lord comprehends whatever you do.

He replied: "O my people! Do you hold my tribe in greater esteem than God, that you take Him as something to cast behind you and forget? But surely my Lord encompasses (with His Knowledge and Power) all that you do.

Amatul Rahman Omar

He said, `My people! does my tribe occupy stronger and more respectable position with you than Allâh? And (He has occupied no importance in your eyes that) you have cast Him behind your backs neglected. Surely, my Lord encompasses all your activities (in His knowledge).

English Literal

He said: "You (my) nation, is my tribe/group dearer to you than God, and you took Him behind you forgotten behind the back? That my Lord (is) with what you make/do surrounding ."

He said: "O my people! Is then my family of more weight with you than Allah And you have cast Him away behind your backs. Verily, my Lord is surrounding all that you do."

He said, "My people, is my tribe mightier to you than God? You put Him behind you, turning your backs on Him! Surely, my Lord encompasses all that you do.

He said, “O my people, is my tribe more important to you than God? And you have turned your backs on Him? My Lord comprehends everything you do.”

Tafsir jalalayn

He said, `O my people, is my clan more venerable in your sight than God?, such that you refrain from killing me because of them, instead of [your] protecting me for [being the Messenger of] God? And do you put Him, God, behind you, neglected?, rejected, behind your backs, not mindful of Him? Truly my Lord encompasses, in knowledge, what you do, and will requite you.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَهْطِي أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ اللّهِ



He said;"O my people! Is then my family of more weight with you than Allah!"

He says;You would leave me alone out of respect for my people but not out of respect for the greatness of the Lord, the Most Blessed and Exalted. Does not your awe of Allah prevent you from harming His Prophet! Indeed you have placed the fear of Allah,

وَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُ

And you have cast Him away

وَرَاءكُمْ ظِهْرِيًّا

behind your backs.

This means that you have thrown it behind you. You do not obey it, nor do you respect it.

إِنَّ رَبِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ



Verily, my Lord is surrounding all that you do.

This means that He knows all of your actions and He will reward you according to them
