Al-Qur'an Surah Hud Verse 76

Hud [11]: 76 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

يٰٓاِبْرٰهِيْمُ اَعْرِضْ عَنْ هٰذَا ۚاِنَّهٗ قَدْ جَاۤءَ اَمْرُ رَبِّكَۚ وَاِنَّهُمْ اٰتِيْهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُوْدٍ (هود : ١١)

Transliteration:

Yaaa Ibraaheemu a'rid 'an haazaaa innahoo qad jaaa'a amru Rabbika wa innahum aateehim 'azaabun ghairun mardood (QS. Hūd:76)

English / Sahih Translation:

[The angels said], "O Abraham, give up this [plea]. Indeed, the command of your Lord has come, and indeed, there will reach them a punishment that cannot be repelled." (QS. Hud, ayah 76)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

“O Ibrāhīm! Leave it. In fact, the command of your Lord has come to pass, and there has to come upon them a punishment that cannot be averted.”

˹The angels said,˺ “O Abraham! Plead no more! Your Lord’s decree has already come, and they will certainly be afflicted with a punishment that cannot be averted!”

Thereupon (Our angels) said to him: 'O Abraham! Desist from this, for indeed your Lord's command has come; and a chastisement which cannot be averted is about to befall them.' words literally suggest; the purpose is merely to express a sense of wonder.

"Desist from pleading, O Abraham," (they said). "Your Lord's command has verily been issued, and a punishment that cannot be averted is bound to fall on them."

English Literal

You Abraham, turn away from that, that it truly, your Lord`s order/command had come, and that they, (a) torture (which is) not being returned, is coming to them.

"O Ibrahim! Forsake this. Indeed, the commandment of your Lord has gone forth. Verily, there will come a torment for them which cannot be turned back."

We said, "Abraham, cease your pleading: the command of your Lord has gone forth. There shall fall upon them a punishment which none can avert!"

“O Abraham, refrain from this. The command of your Lord has come; they have incurred an irreversible punishment.”

Tafsir jalalayn

When he had pleaded with them at length, they said; `O Abraham, desist from this, pleading. Truly your Lord's command, for their destruction, has gone forth, and truly there will come upon them a chastisement which cannot be repelled'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَذَا إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَاء أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ

O Ibrahim! Forsake this. Indeed, the commandment of your Lord has gone forth.

This means the decree was settled concerning them and the Word was already given that they should be destroyed.

وَإِنَّهُمْ اتِيهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُودٍ



Verily, there will come a torment for them which cannot be turned back."

The evil torment was coming to them, that cannot be averted from wicked people
