Al-Qur'an Surah Hud Verse 73

Mufti Taqi Usmani

They said, “Do you marvel at Allah’s command? Allah’s mercy and His blessings have always been upon you, O people of the house. Surely, He is Praiseworthy, Glorious.”

They responded, “Are you astonished by Allah’s decree? May Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you, O  people of this house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, All-Glorious.”

English Literal

They said: "Are you wondering/astonished from God`s order/command/matter/affair, God`s mercy and His blessings on you people of the house/home, that He is praiseworthy/commendable, glorious/magnified ."

The angels said, "Do you wonder at the command of Allah? Allah’s mercy and His blessings be upon you, O people of this house; indeed He only is Most Praiseworthy, Most Honourable."

Said she, "Alas for me! Shall I bear a son when I am an old woman, and this husband of mine an old man? Verily, this is a strange thing!"

She said: O wonder! Shall I bear a son when I am an extremely old woman, and this my husband an extremely old man? This is a wonderful thing indeed!

They said: Do you wonder at Allah's bidding? The mercy of Allah and His blessings are on you, O people of the house, surely He is Praised, Glorious.

They said: Wonderest thou at the commandment of Allah? The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, O people of the house! Lo! He is Owner of Praise, Owner of Glory!

They replied, "Would you be surprised at God's decree? People of the house, may God's mercy and blessings be with you. God is Appreciative and Glorious."

They said: 'What, do you marvel at the command of Allah? The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be upon you, O people of the House. Indeed, He isPraised, Exalted'

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

They said: "Do you wonder at the decree of Allah The mercy of Allah and His blessings be on you, O the family [of Ibrahim]. Surely, He (Allah) is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious."

They said, "Are you astonished at God's command? May the mercy of God and His blessings be upon you, O people of this house. Surely, He is praiseworthy and glorious."

Talal Itani

They said, “Do you marvel at the decree of God? The mercy and blessings of God are upon you, O people of the house. He is Praiseworthy and Glorious.”

Tafsir jalalayn

They said, `Are you astonished by God's command?, [by] His power? The mercy of God and His blessings be upon you, O, people of the House!, the House of Abraham. Truly He is Praised, Glorious!', Generous.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالُواْ أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللّهِ

Then said;"Do you wonder at the decree of Allah!"

This means that the angels were saying to her, "Do not be amazed at the command of Allah, for verily, whenever He wants something, He merely says `Be' and it is. So do not be amazed at this, even though you are old and barren and your husband is a very old man. Verily, Allah is able to do whatever He wills."

رَحْمَتُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ

The mercy of Allah and His blessing be on you, O the family (of Ibrahim).

إِنَّهُ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ



Surely, He (Allah) is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious.

This means that He is the Most Praiseworthy in all of His actions and statements. He is praised and glorified in His Attributes and His Self.

For this reason, it is confirmed in the two Sahihs that they (the Prophet's Companions) said,

"Verily, we already know how to greet you with Salam (peace), but how do we send Salah (prayer) upon you, O Messenger of Allah?"

He said,

قُولُوا


Say,

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى الِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَالِ إبْرَاهِيمَ


وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى الِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى الِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيد

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You have sent prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim.

And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You have blessed the family of Ibrahim. Truly, You are the All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious.
