Al-Qur'an Surah Hud Verse 33

Hud [11]: 33 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَ اِنَّمَا يَأْتِيْكُمْ بِهِ اللّٰهُ اِنْ شَاۤءَ وَمَآ اَنْتُمْ بِمُعْجِزِيْنَ (هود : ١١)

Transliteration:

Qaala innamaa yaateekum bihil laahu in shaaa'a wa maaa antum bimu'jizeen (QS. Hūd:33)

English / Sahih Translation:

He said, "Allah will only bring it to you if He wills, and you will not cause [Him] failure. (QS. Hud, ayah 33)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

He said, “Only Allah will bring it to you, if He so wills, and you cannot frustrate (His will).

He responded, “It is Allah Who can bring it upon you if He wills, and then you will have no escape!

English Literal

He said: "But God brings with it to you, if He willed/wanted and you are not with disabling/frustrating."

They said, "O Noah! You have wrangled with us, and have multiplied disputation among us. Now bring upon us what you have threatened us with, if you are of the truthful."

They say: O Noah, indeed thou hast disputed with us and prolonged dispute with us, so bring upon us that which thou threatenest us with, if thou are truthful.

Tafsir jalalayn

He said, `Only God will bring it upon you, if He wills, to hasten it on for you, for the decision is His, not mine; and you cannot escape Him, elude God.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

"...if you are of the truthful."

(In reply to this), He said;"Only Allah will bring it (the punishment) on you, if He wills, and then you will escape not.

This means, `It is only Allah Who can punish you and hasten your punishment for you. He is the One from Whom nothing escapes.
