Al-Qur'an Surah Hud Verse 19

Hud [11]: 19 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

الَّذِيْنَ يَصُدُّوْنَ عَنْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ وَيَبْغُوْنَهَا عِوَجًاۗ وَهُمْ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ هُمْ كفِٰرُوْنَ (هود : ١١)

(are) disbelievers

Transliteration:

Allazeena yasuddoona 'an sabeelil laahi wa yabghoonahaa 'iwajanw wa hum bil Aakhiratihum kaafiroon (QS. Hūd:19)

English / Sahih Translation:

Who averted [people] from the way of Allah and sought to make it [seem] deviant while they, concerning the Hereafter, were disbelievers. (QS. Hud, ayah 19)

the ones who prevent (people) from the way of Allah and seek crookedness in it, and who are deniers of the Hereafter.”

English Literal

Those who object/prevent/obstruct from God`s way/path/sake , and they ask/wish/desire it (be) bent/crookedness/indirectness, and they, with the end (other life) they are disbelievers.

Those who prevent from the way of Allah and wish deviation in it; and it is they who disbelieve in the Hereafter.

Tafsir jalalayn

they who bar [people] from God's way, [from] the religion of Islam, desiring [to have] it, seeking that the way be, crooked; and in the Hereafter they (hum, `they', is [reiterated] for emphasis) are disbelievers.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

الَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا

Those who hinder (others) from the path of Allah, and seek a crookedness therein,

This means that they prevent the people from following the truth and traversing upon the path of guidance that leads to Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. In doing so they also keep the people away from Paradise itself.

Allah's statement,
وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا
(and seek a crookedness therein),

This means that they want their path to be crooked and uneven.

Then, Allah's statement,

وَهُم بِالاخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ



while they are disbelievers in the Hereafter.

This means that they deny the Hereafter and they reject the idea that any of its events will occur, or any of it exists at all.
