Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Humazah Verse 8

Al-Humazah [104]: 8 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِمْ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۙ (الهمزة : ١٠٤)

innahā
إِنَّهَا
Indeed it
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِم
(will be) upon them
mu'ṣadatun
مُّؤْصَدَةٌ
closed over

Transliteration:

Innaha 'alaihim moosada (QS. al-Humazah:8)

English / Sahih Translation:

Indeed, it [i.e., Hellfire] will be closed down upon them . (QS. Al-Humazah, ayah 8)

Tafsir jalalayn

Lo! it will be closed in (mu'sada or msada) on them (`alayhim, `on them'; the plural pronoun takes into account the [plural] import of kull, `every'),

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Verily, it shall Mu'sadahupon them.

meaning, covering, just as was mentioned in the Tafsir of Surah Al-Balad (see 90;20).

Then Allah says,

فِي عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍ




In pillars stretched forth.

Atiyah Al-`Awfi said, "Pillars of Iron."

As-Suddi said, "Made of fire."

Al-`Awfi reported from Ibn `Abbas,

"He will make them enter pillars stretched forth, meaning there will be columns over them, and they will have chains on their necks, and the gates (of Hell) will be shut upon them."
