Al-Qur'an Surah Yunus Verse 73

Then they rejected him, and We saved him and those with him in the Ark and made them the successors, and drowned those who gave the lie to Our signs. So look how was the fate of those who were warned.

English Literal

So they denied him , so We saved/rescued him and who (was) with him in the ship , and We made/put them (as) caliphs/successors and replacers/leaders, and We drowned/sunk those who lied/denied/falsified with Our evidences/verses , so look/see how was the end/turn (result of) the warned/given notice.

In response they denied him, so We rescued him and those with him in the ship, and made them caliphs, and We drowned those who denied Our signs; therefore see what sort of fate befell those who had been warned!

But they denounced him, so We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and We made them successors, and We drowned those who rejected Our signs. So consider the fate of those who were warned.

Tafsir jalalayn

But they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and made them, that is, those with him, successors, in the earth, and We drowned those who denied Our signs, by [unleashing] the Flood. Behold then the nature of the consequence for those who had been warned!, in that they were destroyed; likewise We deal with those who deny.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُ


They denied him, but We delivered him, and those with him,

meaning on his religion,

فِي الْفُلْكِ

in the (Fulk) ship,
Fulk refers to the ark, and,

وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ خَلَيِفَ

We made them generations replacing one after another, (on earth),

وَأَغْرَقْنَا الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِأيَاتِنَا فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنذَرِينَ



while We drowned those who belied Our Ayat. Then see what was the end of those who were warned.

meaning `O Muhammad, see how We saved the believers and destroyed the deniers!
