قُلْ يٰٓاَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاۤءَكُمُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَّبِّكُمْ ۚفَمَنِ اهْتَدٰى فَاِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِيْ لِنَفْسِهٖ ۚوَمَنْ ضَلَّ فَاِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا ۚوَمَآ اَنَا۠ عَلَيْكُمْ بِوَكِيْلٍۗ (يونس : ١٠)

يَهْتَدِى
(he is) guided
linafsihi
لِنَفْسِهِۦۖ
for his soul
waman
وَمَن
and whoever
ḍalla
ضَلَّ
goes astray
fa-innamā
فَإِنَّمَا
then only
yaḍillu
يَضِلُّ
he strays
ʿalayhā
عَلَيْهَاۖ
against it
wamā
وَمَآ
And I am not
anā
أَنَا۠
And I am not
ʿalaykum
عَلَيْكُم
over you
biwakīlin
بِوَكِيلٍ
a guardian"

Transliteration:

Qul yaaa aiyuhan naasu qad jaaa'akumul haqqu mir Rabbikum famanih tadaa fa innamaa yahtadee linafsihee wa man dalla fa innamaa yadillu 'alaihaa wa maaa ana 'alaikum biwakeel (QS. al-Yūnus:108)

English / Sahih Translation:

Say, "O mankind, the truth has come to you from your Lord, so whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever goes astray only goes astray [in violation] against it. And I am not over you a manager." (QS. Yunus, ayah 108)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Say, “O people, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So, whoever accepts guidance accepts it to his own benefit, and whoever goes astray does so to his own detriment. And I am not responsible for you.”

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “O humanity! The truth has surely come to you from your Lord. So whoever chooses to be guided, it is only for their own good. And whoever chooses to stray, it is only to their own loss. And I am not a keeper over you.”

Say: "O men, the truth has come to you from your Lord, so he who follows the right path does so for himself, and he who goes astray errs against himself, and I am not a guardian over you.

English Literal

Say: "You, you the people, the truth had come to you from your Lord, so who was guided, so but he guides for his self, and who misguided , so but he misguides on it, and I am not on you with a guardian/protector."

And should Allah touch you with harm, there is none to remove it save He; and if He wish you well, there is none to repel His grace; He makes it fall on whom He will of His servants; for He is Forgiving and Merciful.

. Say: "O you mankind! Now truth (i.e. the Quran and Prophet Muhammad SAW), has come to you from your Lord. So whosoever receives guidance, he does so for the good of his own self, and whosoever goes astray, he does so to his own loss, and I am not (set) over you as a Wakil (disposer of affairs to oblige you for guidance)."

And if Allah afflicts thee with harm, there is none to remove it but He; and if He intends good to thee, there is none to repel His grace. He brings it to whom He pleases of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.

Say, “O people, the truth has come to you from your Lord. Whoever accepts guidance is guided for his own soul; and whoever strays only strays to its detriment. I am not a guardian over you.”

Tafsir jalalayn

Say; `O people, that is, people of Mecca, the Truth has come to you from your Lord. So whoever is guided, is guided only for the sake of his own soul, since the reward of his being guided will be his, and whoever errs, errs only against it, since the evil consequence of his erring shall befall [only] it [his soul]. And I am not a guardian over you', that I might then compel you to [accept] guidance.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Allah says;

قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءكُمُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ فَمَنِ اهْتَدَى فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِي لِنَفْسِهِ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا


Say;"O people! Now the truth has come to you from your Lord. So whoever receives guidance, he does so for the good of himself. And whoever goes astray, he does so at his own loss.

Allah, the Exalted, commands His Messenger to inform the people that that which he has brought them from Allah is the truth. It is a message concerning which there is no doubt or suspicion. Therefore, whoever is guided by it and follows it, then he only benefits himself by doing so. Likewise, whoever is misguided away from this message, then he will suffer the consequences against his own self.

وَمَا أَنَاْ عَلَيْكُم بِوَكِيلٍ



And I am not set over you as a guardian.

This means, `I am not a guardian over you in order for you to become believers. I am only a warner to you and guidance belongs to Allah, the Exalted.'

Concerning Allah's statement
